I am The Evina. I do a little bit of everything from making maps for Cry of Fear and Source games to writing fiction novels to programming and web design and many other things. I like to review Source mods. A perfect 10 is reserved for mods that blow my mind. This is a list of mods I have contributed to: G String (voice acting [announcer]), Aperture Beginnings (voice acting [announcer]), Cry of Fear (creator of the custom campaign "The Hole").
The design was good and the gameplay was fun for the most part.
But it did suffer from some of the common problems: wearisome waves of enemies and repeated generic props like boxes which I was constantly hacking through.
Also I got lost a few times and had to noclip to get through once I gave up going around in circles. There's not a very obvious sense of direction, especially near the end with all those doors and tunnels.
Good job, though.
This mod was okay. It's about my level of mapping skills now, maybe even a little better. The puzzles were interesting but sometimes hard to figure out. Other areas looked a little devoid of detail. Anyway, I didn't feel like there was too much of a story. Do Alyx and Dog at the end relate to your next mod?
I never managed to finish this game. Some of the puzzles were really hard, the monster was not all too scary, and the game lagged a lot all in this one small map.
But the map was well designed and the story was kind of interesting. I had some fun with it for a while.
It is almost exactly like the old mod except with better graphics, but they were stunning graphics.
I got it with the HIB8. The game is maybe 2 hours long at max if you walk slowly.
I think the original price of $10 is way too high. This is more like a really fancy, empty movie. I wouldn't go to the theaters for that price if this was a movie.
It was ok. It was not very long, the story was kind of generic, mapping was fine, the fighting was super easy. Still, it was fairly fun to play.
The music blares, the combine come in packs of hundreds, the rockets fly, the colors dazzle, the antlions come from nowhere, and you fall through the floor into a pool of water again and again and again.
This mod is so bad that it's good.
Set in the HL2 universe, this is a typical combine killer mod. It is pretty difficult in some places.
Generic mapping, although pretty good, hoards of non-stop enemies, not much of a story, no good puzzles, but still fun enough.
Another mod I tried a while ago and was never able to finish. Map design was absolutely superb while voice acting sucked.
Not bad. This is obviously an art mod. And all the textures and models are new, but nothing else. Weapons, GUI, and sounds are essentially the same. There really is no story or anything like that but it's kind of interesting to look at for a while. Very large mod package and laggy because all of it is crammed into 3 large and detailed maps.
Nice custom story! For some reason I don't play them very often because becuase I don't find them as fun as like Source mods. But this one looked different so I decided to continue with it.
Anyway, it was very creepy, in a good amnesia-ish way.
Very short and kind of not explained well even though the writing was good and accurate for the time period.
