I am The Evina. I do a little bit of everything from making maps for Cry of Fear and Source games to writing fiction novels to programming and web design and many other things. I like to review Source mods. A perfect 10 is reserved for mods that blow my mind. This is a list of mods I have contributed to: G String (voice acting [announcer]), Aperture Beginnings (voice acting [announcer]), Cry of Fear (creator of the custom campaign "The Hole").
One of the best games that I have ever played. It was perfect. The music set the correct mood, there was lots of variety in gameplay. The textures were just the right quality for the situation so they looked right but wouldn't hurt your eyes. The weapons and enemies were well balanced. The voice acting was great. I could go on and on but to actually experience it for yourself is something different.
Why did I give this a 9 instead of a 10? The game was overall great but there were just a few things that bothered me. To make it easier, I will only list the things that I didn't find "fantastic".
- Difficulty (In some parts like the underground tracks the puzzles and fighting was extremely hard, even on easy)
- Less variety than expected (Some parts that I expected to go quickly took forever and vise versa. I expected Xen to be longer and I was sad to only have a single personal G-man encounter in the whole game unlike the HL2 games.)
- Bugs (The steam version has plenty of them)
- Story is not very special.
- I try not to be biased on graphics and sounds, but that might be a part of why is was so hard to immerse myself in the game.
This may have been a great shooter back in its days because it was revolutionary and all that, but it's not enough to satisfy me today.
Very interesting and sort of... random. That's the whole point, right? I enjoyed it.
Some parts were hard, especially becuase I always get lost in Nova Prospekt, but it was still fun nevertheless. It is also sometimes nice to see the world from another person's perspective.
I usually don't like horror unless it is so good that I wouldn't miss it for the world. This is one of those mods. The fear doesn't come from gruesome-looking monsters (although they are pretty dang ugly) but from a fear of the dark, claustrophobia and lots of jumping out surprise moments.
I only had trouble with the boss battle where I couldn't figure out how to shut off the stupid machine, so I had to see a walkthough for that.
Short but sweet. It is exactly what is says it is. Varied gameplay with paced action and a boss battle.
Incredible total conversion. Graphics puzzles and gameplay are 10/10. It is very short but that can't be too much to complain about. The battle system was a little too simple but I'm sure that it will be fixed in the next full release. Overall, I am very impressed.
Excellent mod. It focuses on portraying a slums area very well. Battle is well paced and overall gameplay is fun.
Very depressing but well done. It actually looks like a nuclear disaster. The atmosphere was perfect for one to refelect on the fragility of this world.
I would compare it to The Stanley Parable. Surreal, fun to fugure out, and informative.
