Honestly, I'm thinking about actually starting development again. It's just so much work! ;_;

7 years later and I look back and see just how primitive and confusing this mod really is. I'm glad some of you enjoyed it.
How do you get through the space battle? Once the coildrones show up I die within seconds no matter what I do.
I am in favor of a name change for the reasons stated by everyone else. But even G-Strand feels a little... odd. Doesn't it just refer to DNA? I haven't actually played the whole game, so maybe there is some hidden meaning in the title. But I always thought something this special deserves a name with a little more pizzazz. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything better now.
For some reason, version 1.0.2 crashes on startup for me without any error message.
Very nice, but how did you get access to the source code?
I enjoyed this map pack but want to point out some bugs I noticed in Chapter 5:
If the white spheres are crucial to solving puzzles there needs to be some consistency with fizzling and regenerating. Some emancipation fields destroy them and others don't. According to Valve standards a puzzle should never be made unsolvable without the player knowing it. A destroyed or lost sphere must be regenerated when destroyed. Also, it took me a long time to figure out how to use them in the first puzzle. I didn't they needed to be put in those machines.
And in the final test the chamber kept self-destructing because the core kept falling into the lava. I had to use "ent_fire core_red disablemotion" until I was ready to use the funnel. I suggest disabling motion for the core until a funnel or some force pulls on it, or place it in some kind of invisible bowl so it can't roll.
Also, the music was interesting, but there were no credits so I don't know who made it. If you plan on turning this into a completed mod it would be nice if the chapters were linked together with a story and credits.
But like I said, I did enjoy this mod. :)
I really enjoyed it!
Yes, it is harder than many other mods but as a HL2 veteran I still managed to get through it quickly without cheats.
ModDB should really put this in the "upcoming mods" category for GOTY. The beta is extremely outdated.
Is this mod still in development? It's broken in places and the resources would be better packed in vpks.
This was one of my favorite mods when I first started playing Portal. I would gladly fix it myself if Ian would be cool with it.
Take your time. Don't rush. Don't compromise quality. Backup your work often. Relax when you need to. This may just be the greatest mod in history.
Take all the time you need. (And backup your work in as many places as you can.) We'll be patient ;)
It seems the problem is a texture issue. The 6s on the bottom should be 9s.
I found the official answer to be Down Down Up Down Up Up.
Sorry for the confusion. :(
The numbers should add up to 21 top and bottom where the levers point. There is a spoilers text file in the installation. The answer should be found in there.
I can't stand the foggy overlay in part 3. Is there any way to remove it?
Why is the file size for a demo so big? Especially when it looks like it contains mostly vanilla hl2 assets.
I played this again after playing ep3. It's still very fun.
Ok I finally finished it. Well done. :)
The review will take a while to write, though. I have a lot to say about it.
This is like two mods in one. The first half is Leon's typical random mess of excitement to find Dr. Kleiner and discover how useless he is.
Then the trip to the Borealis finally happens. I'm slightly disappointed Gordon goes alone, but I really love how you designed the area. I'm still only at map 23 or so.
These are Combine and not covert Aperture assassins, right?
My impressions of the mod so far are excellent. I will definitely review it when I'm finished.
Ignore the trolls, Leon. I think these noobs have been spoiled by professional mods like Black Mesa. They don't have the taste to appreciate something like your work. They probably expected it to literally be a free full-fledged Valve game. Anyone who believes that has to be insane.
Also I like the cut scenes. They really add character to the mod.
It's amazing what you've accomplished almost entirely by yourself.
This is so tragic. Your birthday and planned release day and your mother dies? That sucks. :(
You were always supportive of me and my mod. So I'm here to tell you I support you. Take your time, relax, and forget everyone and everything unimportant until you are better.
As strange as this is, I seemed to have trouble locating the cubes on some puzzles because I expected the first would auto-drop like in a lot of Portal maps. The most frustrating thing was trying to figure out how to open a door with a second button when I only had one cube. The solution was to push the cube-drop button and bring it over. I felt so stupid. It was completely unnecessary to the puzzle anyway. Auto dropping boxes would make a good improvement.
But the mod is still without a doubt 10/10
I am working on a new update (version 1.1). This will remove the first puzzle.
Jump to go faster. (I personally thought it was easy, as well as the testers, but apparently none of the players think so. I'm sorry.)
The resource file might not be loaded. Make sure the mod folder is named "belowice" exactly.
The reason sprint is disabled is because the player doesn't have the HEV suit (and doesn't need one). Many mods like this omit the HEV suit. And as for the jumping I never had any tester have a problem with it.
But you can skip the intro by doing "map belowice" in the console. You won't miss much of anything. Alternatively noclip past the barrier. Since a lot of people don't like this I'll patch the map later.
In the big room at the end of belowice_2 with the staircase leading to the top. It's on the floor.
I'm wondering whether I should release a development package (for learning purposes) showcasing my new entities, incredible optimization skills, and other things. How many people would even care about that?
