I am The Evina. I do a little bit of everything from making maps for Cry of Fear and Source games to writing fiction novels to programming and web design and many other things. I like to review Source mods. A perfect 10 is reserved for mods that blow my mind. This is a list of mods I have contributed to: G String (voice acting [announcer]), Aperture Beginnings (voice acting [announcer]), Cry of Fear (creator of the custom campaign "The Hole").

As strange as this is, I seemed to have trouble locating the cubes on some puzzles because I expected the first would auto-drop like in a lot of Portal maps. The most frustrating thing was trying to figure out how to open a door with a second button when I only had one cube. The solution was to push the cube-drop button and bring it over. I felt so stupid. It was completely unnecessary to the puzzle anyway. Auto dropping boxes would make a good improvement.

But the mod is still without a doubt 10/10

The resource file might not be loaded. Make sure the mod folder is named "belowice" exactly.

The reason sprint is disabled is because the player doesn't have the HEV suit (and doesn't need one). Many mods like this omit the HEV suit. And as for the jumping I never had any tester have a problem with it.

But you can skip the intro by doing "map belowice" in the console. You won't miss much of anything. Alternatively noclip past the barrier. Since a lot of people don't like this I'll patch the map later.

Since the mod wasn't tested as well as it should have been (due to a lack of interested testers who looked like they knew what they were doing) I'll probably release an improved version 1.1 later on when I get more feedback.

I don't discourage anyone from playing version 1.0, though. No major bug has been reported yet.

There should be an item to pick up in the snow, though I suppose it might be a little hard to find.

I had trouble finding enough good testers for this mod so I had to assume a lot of things.

My impression of the mod so far is not so great. I've been stuck over and over again. Why do I keep going through endless halls that look the same and they have the same names too, "Laboratory" and "Research" for example. The story has been bland too. And the puzzles are often hard because they make no sense. They have no explanation or hints. I liked the original Penumbra games but I don't think I'll be able to finish this. Sorry :/

Judging by the first version I played, along with these videos, this mod comes closer to being true horror than any horror game I've played.

This world is merciless, depressing, and disgusting. The creator ignores every taboo known to mankind to make sure the player becomes immersed in it and stays immersed for a long time.

After playing it I want to cling to my mediocre life now with its little problems and be more grateful that we haven't degraded to that level (yet).

Few other mods or games could come close to holding this much emotional power.

Copy or move the folder "belowice" to the directory where Steam is installed, under the folder "SteamApps" and then "sourcemods". All mods for Source engine go in that folder.

I've made a Portal 2 map that I'm planning on publishing to the workshop soon and unfortunately it makes this mod look pretty low quality. So I want to work on it even less now. But I definitely will get it finished one day.

If I remember correctly, buildings practically explode when they are hit in this mod. So I think there will be plenty of breaking apart.
