I am The Evina. I do a little bit of everything from making maps for Cry of Fear and Source games to writing fiction novels to programming and web design and many other things. I like to review Source mods. A perfect 10 is reserved for mods that blow my mind. This is a list of mods I have contributed to: G String (voice acting [announcer]), Aperture Beginnings (voice acting [announcer]), Cry of Fear (creator of the custom campaign "The Hole").

The reason sprint is disabled is because the player doesn't have the HEV suit (and doesn't need one). Many mods like this omit the HEV suit. And as for the jumping I never had any tester have a problem with it.

But you can skip the intro by doing "map belowice" in the console. You won't miss much of anything. Alternatively noclip past the barrier. Since a lot of people don't like this I'll patch the map later.

Since the mod wasn't tested as well as it should have been (due to a lack of interested testers who looked like they knew what they were doing) I'll probably release an improved version 1.1 later on when I get more feedback.

I don't discourage anyone from playing version 1.0, though. No major bug has been reported yet.

My impression of the mod so far is not so great. I've been stuck over and over again. Why do I keep going through endless halls that look the same and they have the same names too, "Laboratory" and "Research" for example. The story has been bland too. And the puzzles are often hard because they make no sense. They have no explanation or hints. I liked the original Penumbra games but I don't think I'll be able to finish this. Sorry :/

-1 votes   mod: Penumbra: Necrologue
Theevina Dec 4 2014, 9:07pm says:

Judging by the first version I played, along with these videos, this mod comes closer to being true horror than any horror game I've played.

This world is merciless, depressing, and disgusting. The creator ignores every taboo known to mankind to make sure the player becomes immersed in it and stays immersed for a long time.

After playing it I want to cling to my mediocre life now with its little problems and be more grateful that we haven't degraded to that level (yet).

Few other mods or games could come close to holding this much emotional power.

After getting the Orange Box for $5 during a sale and playing almost a hundred mods with hundreds of hours combined gameplay, I became stingy when it comes to spending $12. In 2 hours I got just about every ending, and many of them were copies from the free mod, and much of the gameplay is walking through the same hallways over and over again. So yes, I can't help but feel slightly disappointed. More is better.

Still I think the fee could be lowered or removed for games that promise to be free. Those are usually lower priority to Steam and the quality isn't always high. So if that area is spammed with troll games then it wouldn't be so much of a problem as if it happened to the commercial games area.

Ok, this is what I have to say. In some ways you're right. There is way too much drama going on at that place. I don't "worship" Andreas but think he's an ok guy who made a nice mod, a mod that both you and I liked, otherwise you wouldn't still be talking about it so much. He's not perfect, or even near perfect, just like anyone else. Depression is a treatable disease. I am well aware of it and trying my best to work on it. In the meantime, I enjoy hanging out with people who at least have a little understanding of what I'm dealing with. It is a misunderstood disease, not rare, but still misunderstood. I'm not at all saying that it's an excuse to go around telling everyone you are smarter than they are, but we do make mistakes, and I'm learning more to accept people without regard to what they are. Just like you, I could assume you were a jerk and kicked off Team Psykskallar just for not caring, but I don't know why. I don't know why you made this post. I don't know why you are saying you're not angry but still were able to put up with Andreas for so long whom you hated so much from the very beginning. I can't judge you. It would be easier to say that you made this post because you want to annoy and anger Andreas rather than trying to save us poor "nerds" from our stupid hobby, but even so, I can never know for sure.
