Monochrome LLC Founder & CEO but probably best known as being the Founder and Lead Developer of the very popular HL2 Modification Zombie Panic: Source. --- （。ㅅ。）
You mean decade? heh
Looking forward to it. Been a long time since we got to game together!
Also thought it worth noting we've released new game-modes and Steam Workshop for our modders! Thank's for sharing :)
It will be moddable but due to our more complex maps and scripting and 3rd party software it will not be as easy as HL2. That said we have created our own SDK tools that make modding easier in some ways and have managed to make wWise our new sound system moddable which was a close call.
3-4x biggers if you consider the different floors each map has like in apartments and such as well.
Large but there are limits with this Engine. We're not trying to compete with Open World Survivalist (Eat/Drink/etc/quests) genre which I'm still waiting to see if they hit the mark myself eagerly.
Soon most definitely. We've pointed out that we want it to make a big impact and not have the community spoiled early. :)
Sorry you feel that way. It helps to look into games before purchasing them so you don't make false assumptions and end up disappointed. I recommend the following to research-
"Early Access" (Open Beta and not the final product)
Contagion Escape Mode (Nothing is pointless and if you wanted epic story telling we're sorry we left it up to players and randomness to do the job for us which actually required more effort)
Anything Contagion related before Winter Sale :)
Spend more than 4 minutes playing the game.
There we go! Congrats on hitting your mark :D IndieDB does it again heh. I'm a big fan of these types of games and look forward to seeing the final result.
I like what I see. You have my support! I'm always impressed by how much a single motivated artist can achieve when they do what they love. Don't see a link below unless you're referring to the link in the top left corner of the video (K) :)
Well you should be able to work both in if you're prepared and schedule it (lacking a specific user for PR). Also you should enter whether or not you believe you'll win for what little or great exposure it provides.
Nice work TKaza
It's not an excuse. For some the changes are minor for others they're significant. As for Contagion you'll just have to wait and see for yourself.
I'm sorry you feel that way.
The animations were done in a large mocap studio with professional actors. The game-play is a bit higher paced, nothing like L4D and I'm not sure how AI zombies = NMRiH clone. I can say that those from NMRiH that have played it feel differently than you.
Rather than defend the teaser I can only hope you'll be patient enough to see what the game is about and how it really looks when we release our full trailer which was the point of the teaser to highlight.
There is no game like Contagion, we're confident that many will enjoy it and we hope to scratch that itch. But in the end we'll have to wait and see.
Thank you for the compliments, they're greatly appreciated.
This is indeed Source but we gutted quite a bit to build our own system we're confident players will appreciate. Quite a lot isn't shown in this teaser unfortunately but answers are coming :D
I can only hope you're referring to quality and not game-play but again until we get the full trailer out there people will interpret what they see differently per individual.
Some good news. Cause I haven't slept in 2 days I slipped up and started 12 hours early which means I just added another 12 games to my inventory for our INDIE-pendence Day Giveaway! So that we hit our target hour of Midnight July 5th! That's a total of 36 hours meaning 36 games (1 game given away per hour)
Delayed by us. Once posted it was actually up and running very quickly. Don't want the hard working ppl behind ModDB to take the rap.
Delayed post. Was ready on the 16th :)
Wish I could answer that question but all depends on how quickly documents are signed, people respond via Email, and access.
No, it shares 1 similarity. But then again it's free so why should that matter heh.
Link? Also, your point? The price is almost free by today's standards and obviously some thought went into the design. I'm sure there are enough people interested in a bit of nostalgia mixed in with tower defense for their efforts to be noticed and their time not wasted.
forma.8 looks quite promising.
A fan of both games but I was happy with the runners up and winner in nearly every category. Mark of the Ninja is a blast but of course NS2 being a MP game has plenty of replay value as well once you've finished with your MotN unlocks.
Already got my votes :) Nice work guys!
This video shows work done for a promo piece and just happens to be our very first session in the studio. Yesterday we recorded the entire day and are now working on cleaning up animations for in-game.
For me it's always been about the setting and a good modern day post apocalyptic setting has a good number of cars and with each environment taking place at a different point in time we get to do a lot of fun stuff with them. The time and work that goes into these assets make them something I love to share.
Still we thought we should share some of the MoCap & SFM this week to show that's not all we're working on. The game is coming along fantastically and we've got a lot of surprises to share throughout December and into the new year.
In other words, I'm selfish and posted what I like to see :D Will be sharing more of what we've been up to soon.
Excellent Launch Trailer and what looks to be a very entertaining puzzler.
Shame you couldn't check out the game. Next time for sure already have you and Scott on the top of the list. The team were quite pleased to meet up with you guys and hope you guys liked the swag. Looking forward to the next time as I should be attending, would have liked to have met in person but kids graduation and the new house required I stick around back home.
A bit late but uploaded the videos and songs and just waiting on them to be authed.
Will get download links up by tomorrow.
Apparently Dec was dared to eat 5 hot chili's and is now paying for it as I listen to him moan over skype lol!
It's just a showcase trailer. Glad you enjoyed :)
I'm not a fan myself but many of our fans are. I blame being American and 30 but the music fit the video and I was happy with the results. I do apologize to all those who aren't fans and hope you can enjoy the showcase trailer even so.
Congrats and looks well worth the price! I love challenging platformers but the video didn't really show off any puzzles and we need more limitless deaths!
Game looks great and definitely up my alley. Well done :)
A custom weapon swap feature. May help to add to description though.
As always usually better than today. (Not really the case :D) Heh 2011 sorry for typo.
Congrats on player's choice upcoming game of the year 2001 :)
We're always looking for Ideas & Suggestions such as the above critiques but with news updating all the time we often lose track here. We'd love it if you would possibly post in our I&S thread on our forums at Monochrome-games.com We're glad you like the rest!
Very nice work.
First post always pay double... tis the rules :/
We held the ZPS costume contest back in 2008. 1 Eugene won the other 2 were non ZPS related. But you're more than welcome to avoid the contest :)
Damn I knew we forgot something, should probably switch out his pants with jeans. :D
I assure you as he's digging into your intestines you'll have a change of heart :)
Paid and installing. Looks awesome :D
Always nice to see Indies out there in the spotlight. Congrats and best of luck!
Congrats Herr_Alien! Loved the story though I have to say I felt a sense of deja vu reading it. Also great work to the rest of you for outstanding entries!
Thank you and I'm glad you understand what we were trying to do.
Here is the Monochrome LLC Facebook page Facebook.com
I agree with 3rd as well but have always appreciated those who tell me they'd buy one of my mods if it were on sale. While there are a few exceptions due to extreme changes in development I find it in bad taste to sell a mod. Course in some cases mods can be used as a demo/vertical slice to test the waters before moving forward.
Actually piracy shows your interest in the game and is misleading. Not purchasing the game however makes a clear point that you're not interested in buying their game. Many "pirates" do so to test the water before jumping in and purchasing a game and most companies while trying to fight back (which leads to the **** everyone's bitching about) are still advised whether rightly so or not that piracy suggests more people are likely to buy their games. You're just using an old excuse that doesn't hold much weight.
By definition it is stealing but I assume you're referring to how the law interprets theft and copyright infringement and there even that's debatable (and has been for some time). Self-titled Piracy/Pirates nuff said :)
If you've ever read any of those agreements you click "Agree" to you'd know you're not buying the content but access to interact and view it. No ones rights are being taken. Pirating is only making things even more difficult for users so you're basically saying you support creating the problems that led to your support in the first place. Also, people don't pirate for the reasons you stated they pirate because it's easy, free, and will use any excuse they can. I'm not saying the guys behind the game are angels but there are a lot of innocent developers and gamers getting screwed over by those you support.
Everyone stating piracy is ok due to the constraints - piracy leads to piracy. I mean come on :P You guys gotta stop pretending to be victims when it's really the actions of pirates who are creating the problems. If your were to "borrow" the game for a demo, find you like it. Buy it, if you don't like it uninstall and don't buy it.
You can't justify piracy. The companies have money but you're hurting developers and gamers. You are a bigger problem then these companies. End this isn't the Robin Hood system. If you're selfishly stealing for yourself. It's not food, water, or shelter. It's someones work and entertainment. It'd be like stealing your neighbors entertainment system because he can afford it and doesn't use it enough in your opinion. But because it's digital we ignore that and pretend we're not hurting others or ourselves when that's exactly what pirates are doing.
/Good luck ending topic.
First you say you pirate to "demo" a game before you buy it (I completely understand and have stated such). But then you pirate games from a publisher you hate for whatever reason and whether or not you like the game decide against purchasing it and instead finish the game.
People seem to forget that you're hurting hard working developers along with the HATED Studio/Publisher. It's immature and it's still ******* theft. No excuse for that.
And you're wrong about piracy. We developers care, long time gamers who have seen the damage it's caused care, and people who aren't sticking their fingers in their ears and TROLOLOLOLOLOLing care.
I'm just shocked by the response. I don't mind being down voted but I'm confused as to why. Do the majority really agree that pirating games has in any way improved conditions for us gamers? They cause considerable harm and force developers to find new ways to fight against piracy. I just assume people are spoiled and don't like being called on it.
Appreciate it :)
So you're saying that developers don't need to get paid? That Blizzard should make free games? I'm not saying I agree with their decisions being a modder for 15 years and not a fan of selling items for $ (which was done long before now in D1 and 2) which has gradually become acceptable by the new generation of gamers (Miss the days when you had to earn it instead of parents buying it for you) heh. I'm always online so the online requirement isn't hurting me but I still agree that it's something easily disliked for obvious reasons. NONE of that excuses piracy. The only good excuse I've ever heard was "Wow, that was a great game, i'm definitely gonna buy it now" demo. Would prefer companies release more demos but like others I don't like to rush in eyes closed and buy a game for $50-60 heh
People up voting piracy? You've got to be pretty immature to think stealing a game is okay just because you can't "mod" it or for any reason beyond "Prefer to demo before I buy".
I'm not a huge fan of the decision but to be surprised at companies being "greedy" or rephrased as "want to make more money" is silly as that's usually the point. If you don't like it don't buy it.
Looks interesting, may have to grab the demo :D
In time as we've said, we hope you'll be patient as we'd like to finish up a bit more before than.
Those will be coming soon. Released Marcus wallpapers (and soon a full range of resolutions as I have this one on my iPhone heh) and a bit more with todays news so give it a look.
I read in one of the image comments "srsly 8 pictures of a kitchen" just goes to show that you sometimes have to explain to non-modders/developers that you're showing off what you've managed to do in a dated engine and I see more than a kitchen I see a lot of work and it being presented well. Looks great guys, looking forward to more.
They clearly state they've ditched their windows build for Linux now that they have someone backing them. PC, Linux lolz. Wish them the best of luck :)
How has no one commented on this yet? Snapshot looks like an instant hit! Great job, definitely tracking so please keep the updates coming. Also following on twitter and liked on facebook. Good stuff.
Steam installs in a separate directory than Desura which installs directly to the Sourcemods folder. Both versions will work fine. If you have both versions installed you will see 2 "Zombie Panic: Source" listings in Steam. I'm a big fan of Desura and is just another great way to introduce future fans to ZPS.
I have to agree. With my schedule I don't often get to play much these days but i'll hear news of a game soon to be released or catch a release and make a mental note to try it over the weekend but I always forget I have no weekends. It usually takes another big announcement that's just perfectly timed, or a friend like Henley who asks me what I think planting that seed of guilt "You're no longer a gamer!" but am grateful that others remember for me :(
Contagion-game.com the spiritual successor to ZPS
Looking forward to seeing more, nice work guys.
Ah, gotcha. Apologize for my misunderstanding and was only hoping to offer some advice. It's nice to see dedication to your fans but can be quite a pain if you're both developing and playing the PR game. Good luck!
No offense, but that might get a bit tedious and the lack of presentation may very well hurt your project. Might I suggest EOMBJMB! (Every Other Month Beyond Jupiter Media Blast!) or just called it Beyond Jupiter's Bi-Monthly Media Blast! Just a suggestion :) As for weekly, possibly toss together a developers blog and add some details as to the model. Remember to link to the blog bi-monthly! Hope that helps.
Was a bit confused as to whether this was an adult themed black jack game until I read even further and ignored the 3 images that were provided. Sounds somewhat like a Devil May Cry Stripper side scroller (with possible black jack?). If it's anything like metroidvania or anywhere near as awesome as Aquaria (with darker and adult oriented themes) I'm looking forward to it however with 3 images (that are a bit confusing) and very little info, it may have been a better idea to possibly wait a little longer till reveal? Either way, will track this in the hopes of an incredible MetroidVania DMC! Oh and let's hope the bun bun bunny theme is left to long ponytails and possible "Playboy" references, just personal preference it not go into the realm of Furry or annoying Japanese cuteness heh.
lolz raspberry jam
Looks awesome. Shame I don't have a 360 :/ Great looking game.
I remember relying on many other tutorials in my day and what better place to payback. Mark has been eager to help interested developers. Really hope these help others.
We're very happy to hear that you find it useful and hope to release more in the near future.
There were a few variations of Eugene and Marcus before we settled on the design Sam our concept artist created and Josh and Andrea have modeled. We're very happy with the results as well and grateful to hear the same from our fans :)
Would like to thank Hotdog and GAMEployment for hitting me up for this interview.
I gave my 3 votes to 3 other mods.
"I guess people are not use to developers releasing content WHEN THEY SAY THEY WILL!" It's not like we're talking a Total Conversion here heh. That said, congrats on nearing your finish line and getting the L4D communities awareness.
Can't agree more with the selections. Nice work guys.
Expect more up until release my friend.
Looks awesome. Nice work guys. Will be checking this out as soon as I manage to free up some time.
..I wonder if this engine was built from the ground up or from scratch. 5% of your news posts fail to mention this :/.
"Built from the Ground Up" Drinking game :D
That aside. Thanks for a neat vid.
This is my favorite weapon. I love range and power and this has both!
Took the words right out of my mouth Wills. Infinity is my pick but I worry that it's too ambitious but if it were to work as advertised then it would blow away any game to date. Xeno Clash feels more tangible and looks incredible described as Wills put it.
Good luck all!
...katana! So yeh, my apologies to the Dystopia team for not being more subtle and constructive :)
Actually Japanese drinks come in small and large even today. Usually you'll find the smaller drinks for coffee or hot tea.
All we've said so far is that the winner will win a shirt. Whether we approach the winner or not about selling the design will be left up to later and handled properly if so.
This is more of an announcement of our intent to offer a Limited Edition ZPS shirt and get the community who aren't level designers something to do as well.
Awesome show and great news for Smashball. I've really enjoyed this mod and wishing you guys the best of luck.
Yeh this is not a bug and is in fact intentional to prevent exploits. However this doesn't effect a proper/well thought out barricade
If you boarded yourself into a room, would just mean no escape for you once the zombies break the cades. Though you can also pick up cades after placing them so long as they aren't damaged first.
They're new player models and not replacements :)
Nicely done! Love zombie mods and would like to see more! (Be honest there are plenty announced but so few good ones released :P) Definitely tempted to pick up my own copy of Max Payne 2 just for the mods alone.
Speaketh the truth
Doing our best to add new servers and free up slots for everyone.
I really like this screen. Very nice.
Get a video out there. Would like to see in action.
Congrats you guys :)
Copy and Paste doesn't always work and can lead to stretching and require you to do it over. Also stacking makes baking shadows, details, normals complicated or impossible. So it's good to learn how to do it like this as well. Good tut, might be a good idea to continue with a series of UV tuts on more complicated models.
I found your interview of The Citizen to be absolutely brilliant. I've had a few too many to drink tonight but was still well entertained and will 'eventually' try "The Citizen" for no other reason than your accent and wit. I would love to have you to a video/audio review of my mod Zombie Panic: Source. Let me know :)
Definitely looking forward to the release. Nice work guys.
This sounds interesting. Will definitely be checking it out soon.
Running fine for me and those I just asked to check. Will keep an eye on it just in case.
Mine too heh :D
It's coming along nicely. Looks great. If I can find some spare time i'll do what I can to help.
Not at all (well other than poor servers but thats not mod related)
You're welcome :)
ZP Dev team
We revealed the names of all 4 characters currently revealed in our Showcase trailer - Moddb.com but their names are:
That we promise!
The 1911 is a 1 shot 1 kill weapon when you score a headshot. Mind you the Zombies don't charge directly at you with their head static and depending on your ping you'll probably have to get use to timing your shots differently then others like every other MP game. But in the end we'll all blame the game, lag, or mouse anyways won't we? heh.
We definitely see what you see and would have liked to have been able to share the latest content (most of which is being prototyped and put on hold as we work with Valve to get everything sorted) but you'll be seeing a proper setting on release so fear not :)
They are proper undead but I've always liked L4D's take on "rabies" and while it may resemble L4D in some ways like the virus it's a much different experience! We're looking into bringing the game to PAX Prime for attendees and interested parties to play (thought we're still quite busy with all the contacts from GDC 2012 atm as well heh). Hopefully we can do more for those who aren't attending soon after.
I've lived in Japan for 9 years but I'm caucasian and was born in the US. I live here because it makes my wife happy and offers my children some advantages they wouldn't have at home though I am definitely home sick. Hope that helps answer your question :)
We just took down the Kiosk as GDC Play is over. We'll still be on there for the last day of GDC tomorrow though. We did not have a playable demo of the game available at the Kiosk no but had one prepared for private meetings. What you find odd about the AR-15 could be the wire that leads to the flashlight. But we'll look into it as soon as GDC is over and we've had time to settle back in.
Appreciate the compliments and wish we had the resources that BF3 had (who wouldn't?) I personally think the game looks fantastic. As for melee, again this comes down to head shots by someone who plays 16 hours a day but we haven't even hit our balance or polish phase. Using melee usually means you're going to get hurt and with more than 1 zombie death is almost certain. It is a last resort attack that you can only get away with if you have the health and team support.
Don't want anyone making assumptions one way or the other. But quite a bit more work is done than what Groupyl has led himself to believe and the release date is still TBD. We won't rush the game out but hope to get it to you guys as soon as we can without sacrificing quality.
We're not looking at Valve time if that's what you're asking but we have a lot we want to complete but a good work flow so we're not concerned. Hard to say with the new Engine, features, polish, and marketing. Probably release sooner than most think and later than some are hoping for. A bit vague I know :/
Can adjust settings in options if you feel that way, though obviously we prefer it as is. Scale wise and design wise they're nearly perfect and were redone repeatedly for accuracy alone. Glad you like!
2012 is an exciting year for Monochrome and our title "Contagion" but as much as I would like to say 2012 release! I can't set anything in stone just yet. I can say we do have one in mind.
Best of luck to all here in 2012 :)
This was just one video we have at GDC playing at our area. We will be releasing a gameplay trailer soon which is also currently playing at GDC atm.
Appreciate the support guys! The team has been hard at work but it's over for the day and now they're off to eat and rest their legs. I've posted Day 2 news but also recently added more images of Tuesday - T.co
Well the seagulls fed themselves on litter and trash until they could lift small animals and eventually... So I moved to Japan and started a NEW family.
Will definitely do so. We're located at GDC Play Kiosk #31 if you're interested in dropping by. Tell them Brian sent you (stayed here in Japan to finish work and the build of my new house as the kids were getting too big for the 1 bedroom apartment heh)
The team is looking forward to seeing you guys at GDC as well as revealing the media prepared for our attendance later this week on IndieDB!
Of course. With the the obvious opposition to this bill and the admission by those who hold it in their hands that they have no idea what they're doing I hope we'll see even less restrictions. I'm not a pirate and would hope to see those who know they want the game were willing to pay for it but this goes a bit quite a bit beyond piracy and I'm grateful to all who protested. I only wish I had done more.
Fantastic trailer, the game looks great and I can't wait to play it. Well done guys.
Congrats! looks great :) On my wishlish and bought when I have more time :D
Some very important and exciting news yes. We will be posting soon but are quite busy with a deadline at the moment. Hope it will excite you all as much as it has us.
Some of what you're curious about was present but not shown but will be revealed in the near future. Hopefully before GDC :D and some will be present in the future. Promise we will find someone with a talent for PR to help get more updates out to the public but don't forget we do share stuff every so often on our Facebook and twitter profiles.
Congratulations and hoping all goes well!
As do I. Great times during testing and after. Human bridges/ladders, goldsrc brilliance, and a great deal of nostalgia.
Thank you :D
Can't wait for more mon....Mondays... love em :D
No this model is available to all. The reward was for the user who pledged this specific tier the chance to help us create a unique melee weapon based off their own ideas and/or designs. The pocket flashlight has reached it's timed exclusive and will be available to all (either already or in next patch haha).
Depends on the crash. Be sure to visit our Steam Group Troubleshooting Discussion and post your OS, System Specs, and detailed information regarding your issue so we can troubleshoot :)
Don't mind the immature down voters. We appreciate the kind words, purchase, and hope you'll enjoy what is to come :)
No, it's a full copy of hte game just early access discounted price
All very flattering comparisons. But again, you're seeing a teaser which is short lived and meant to grab some attention for the date listed. We almost certain you'll feel differently when we release our full trailer. I can only hope that will be the case as the game plays and feels nothing like the games you've listed.
I'm quite the fan of NMRiH's hard work so please bring on the comparisons. This map however is inspired by locations we've lived in and a specific iconic location for us.
Well I tried :)
Each vehicle was done by the same artist and scaled to the reference vehicles and one another. Here are some images that should clear up concerns-
1. Ladder has the ability to reach roofs seen here:
2. Vehicle scale from an older image and a top down screen:
@CorporalHicks the car on the far right is clearly not as large or larger than the ambulance.
Hope this helps.
Have a MoCap studio and a couple of their experienced actors yes :) Trying to tackle the usual Indie issues the best we can on our out of pocket budget :)
We all eventually make room for others. But there is still plenty of content and fun to be had. The guys are working hard and more is to come.
Cheers! Would be there but doing my own zombie walk to my kids events out here in Kyoto or at least feels that way! Good luck!
Have a blast guys :)
The one who was dared to eat some hot chili peppers and has the bright red face for it.
Trailer is looking good. Was a big fan of Age of Chivalry and looks like we're getting an upgraded version of that. Shame we couldn't meet at GDC but our experience was very much like yours with meetings with many of those mentioned above especially our friends over at Tripwire. We had 8 people running around with all the meeting on day 1 and everyone's legs killing them. Quite exciting and glad to hear we weren't the only ones suffering/enjoying ourselves.
I could be wrong but after reading the description I thought to myself, that can't be and yet I can't find a single FPTD game that is currently "Released" Do you have another game in mind (besides FPTD which came later)
If I gave that impression (which I honestly would be surprised anyone would think such a thing) I apologize. I was referring to NS2 and Overgrowth's ability to share the progression of their impressive Engines.
If we were to release something showcasing off our awesome Engine we made ourselves or a sequel (rather than spiritual successor with significant differences) of ZPS for example a system like NS2 or Overgrowth might work with pre-orders leading to access to the current build and updates. Unfortunately we've got a lot we want to keep behind closed doors so when we do release it we can blow your minds and enjoy a unique experience and then we can drop another bomb. I'm not saying we won't do pre-orders in the future but for now we think you'll all appreciate the wait and so long as I can afford it out of my own pocket we'll try to keep it that way.
Agreed, but we still want to celebrate and are grateful for the support we received thus far leading into Phase two.
We can't wait to show it off in game in action! Looks even better imho. Thanks for the compliments guys, Oyvind who developed this piece will be very pleased to hear it.
A few of us do. But we've also go full time jobs to pay the bills.
Honestly the lack of enthusiasm and motivation in your voice has me wanting to recommend against pursuing this. While it is your fanbase that helps fuel you it's up to you to have the drive and you don't sound as if that's the case. This is just my personal opinion but better than getting people excited and dropping the project later when there are hiccups (as there always are). If however you do continue I hope I'm wrong and wish you guys the best of luck.
How much are you asking for? (w00t 6 words!)
While I enjoy being part of a big triple A title I don't think I'd ever want to give up a small dedicated team motivated to make enjoyable games.
Comes to roughly a page and a half to two pages (School Textbooks/Manuals excluded) actually which is more than enough for the competition. I believe #9 explains the reasons behind this but waddlesticks also put it nicely.
A proper sequel? Or remake? If sequel then the same engine makes sense as not everyone who enjoyed the original will move over to a new engine but if the game is very dated then it might be a good move to promote the sequel on a new engine. If it's a remake then highly recommend a new Engine (again to promote the new version more than anything) but many assume that a new engine always means better. While there are some limitations on older engines it's really up to the developers on the quality of work in a lot of cases and no reason to switch engines especially if you consider the downsides to those new engines as well.
So I suppose it's all about your working knowledge, preference, and/or promotion.
I'm not a huge fan of mods turned indie unless there is a significant change or unless the mod was more of a demo to help evaluate a full game. But of course all of this is my own personal opinion.
My reply to Alex2the3gr8 should suffice :)
DLC = Downloadable Content. Same as an "Update" only a term that can be used for monetary gain or to express their generosity when free. The term usually refers to small additions to the story or content packs. Personally I agree anything that adds to the game in a significant way should be considered DLC (lets get over this p2p DLC crap heh)
By far one of my favorite renders (If anyone is curious, this is the low poly that is in-game).
We've been blessed with an incredible team who are both extremely talented and motivated. Couldn't ask for more (not that I don't heh).
Tweeted - Twitter.com
Awesome deal, if I didn't already own Trine I'd definitely pick it up off Desura! Man love for you guys!
Sounds interesting so will definitely be tracking. Looking forward to seeing more :)
I agree that's quite a generous move on Epic's part but not sure I understand what you mean in regards to Steam doing something similar? Steam being a digital distribution application (obviously quite a bit more) and not a game development kit. Do you mean Valve's Source Engine?
I'd say it's both a great and terrible thing. There are numerous indies and more so with the UDK out. I've seen small teams do great things (look at Uber Entertainment congrats again to them and Monday Night Combat) and larger teams take on too much. A virtual developer model is also quite difficult as it's very similar to a mod development team where it's easy for some to lose interest after a time and need to be replaced quickly or things can slow to a stop if you're not too careful. In other words it's the dream job but requires a lot of work even for the simplest projects. Good luck Spiral :)
I understand that, but by posting on IndieDB it posts on both. You don't have to post news in both IndieDB and ModDB which is why you had identical posts on front page. Someone took notice and removed one, which is why I apologized for the now confusing comment and asked it to be removed :) ModDB post's IndieDB posts on both because they're also trying to merge the two somewhat as IndieDB needs more attention and I only say this because developing "Zombie Panic: Source"'s spiritual successor "Contagion" I also learned this by making the same mistake :) Hope that helps.
Why are there two identical news posts? I can only assume it was posted in both moddb and indiedb. Might want to remove one? Congrats on the Devs vs Players :)
I still haven't had the pleasure to play Uncharted so can only tell you that both that character and Sean Connery were not influences in the design of Nick. But I suppose unconsciously we all love us some Connery :/
Yes! I'll add a link in this section to the download (slipped my mind).
Keep up the good work :)
Definitely leaning more towards ZP's realism over L4D's (intended) arcade like feel.
It's a bit of a teaser. I assure you we have quite a number of different zombies/inmates.
Actually it is on Youtube.com :)
Thanks for the positive feedback guys :D
Contagion is not a free game, but we promise it will be affordable and worth every penny once completed. We are not yet at the point to discuss pricing or release date but if you track us, we will be revealing more information over time.
We both know you're gonna love it Waz :D Ty again for your support. Will have more to show soon.
Awesome stuff Gar which is of course expected from you. Tracking
Even some ZP:S in thar
Heh caught crying on ZP:S profile as well.
It's still the #1 played HL2 mod.
Poor Henley :(
The Necrotroph looks straight out of Blade II
As you can see it doesn't really show off much. Just gives you the list. Which btw is described int he Objective list in game. So no real spoilers here. Was more of an intro to the map and something that was done out of love of the community and for fun obviously.
Play both. ZPS and L4D2 are very very much apart as to gameplay. Of course l4d2 did add in melee weapons so maybe l4d3 will be kill off zps! OH NOES! heh It's halloween and everyones releasing. L4D1 didn't hurt ZPS so we'll see :) Already working on our next patch as well.
PushBAK works at WETA Workshop. You can see his name in the credits of District 9 the movie. But you'll have to guess which one is his :)
Right, I see you're borrowing features from the Nazi Zombie part of CoD:WaW like the electric rifle, mystery box, ray gun, and theme.
Heh wtf are you talking about? Who said anything about PR?
I have to say that I prefer the "No Katana" T-Shirt the best though.
heh you *insert male genitalia here* :P
Awesome, still need to get my sexed up copy.
Nah, he was just being a retard. There are better ways to express your opinion without acting like a ignorant *******.
one can hope :D
Love the podcasts. Between ModDB and Podcast17 getting a lot of insight and updates to our favorite mods and games. Also appreciate you discussing the ZP:S Media Release as it was sorta buried quickly heh. Just to clear some things up. NMRiH content includes the map Harvest which was donated by Darth_Brush and is being completed by the team. Cabin Fever which is still in development by SlimZ who is now completing it for ZP:S. But Darth_Brush also sent us the ZP:S map he was working on DeadCity which is also being completed by the ZP:S team. The Animations however were created by the incredibly talented Swolf who is a ZP Team member.
Looking forward to the next show.
This is in fact "Cabin Fever" a map that was being developed originally for NMRiH but is now being developed for Zombie Panic: Source by the very talented SlimZ
That it does and openly.
Game looks incredible. I'll try and grab this asap when some times frees up. Thanks for the reminder as i've been watching this title for a bit.
Correction- I'm not officially the PR guy for either Zombie Panic: Source or NeoTokyo: Source.
Zombie Panic: Source - I'm the Co-Founder/Lead Developer/Lead Artist
NeoTokyo: Source - I'm an environmental artist
Panic - Was always part of Zombie Panic (HL1) and Zombie Panic: Source (HL2)
Hehe really enjoyed the modcast and can't wait to try out Lugaru
It's available on the downloads page.
You'd be crying about Tat's sweaty v-ball sweat had I been playing with you guys :P.
Sorry I didn't mean to say ZP:S faded away. I was trying to say that it got locked in with Media releases and would have been better for us had we not put out so many.
On NeoTokyo we focused more on the development side and it was a lot less stressful. Lesson learned from both mods.
Think you misunderstand. What was said was a lot of mods would post untextured works (really in this case you shouldn't) and just fade away and never release. ZPS is a good example of this so of course some of us on the team can relate. Once you start giving people gifts of media they want more and more and if you don't satisfy them they often turn on you and so we chose not to do this and instead focus on the mod.
For others they need to attract other developers and releasing media is one way of doing this but has it's price.
Just to keep the ModDB community up to date. We stopped accepting entries and have been actively testing the maps we received before the deadline.
"5 digit number"
"IT'S OVER 9000!!!!"
Seriously... I hope you're counting change in that number otherwise I don't think it fair to tack on your "segway and faygo" budget :P And seriously... You have no problem spending "5 digit number" on a mod that shouldn't have cost you more than at most "very low low 4 digit number" ...is this all going to a lifetime supply of ramen?!
Of course it's getting harder but growing. It started out with simple mods like reskins and what not. Then mod teams built their own ideas which back then was a lot easier to manage than it is today. Of course modding is a lot more accepted and practiced and so there are tools developed for the purpose of modding but as a team the public demands quantity and quality and that means those of us who first got started over a decade ago have had a lot of studying to do heh.
Definitely harder than before but growing. I just assume anyone voting anything else is new to modding :)
I really like the style and art direction.
imperialguard: Um only similarity to Hidden: Source is the 1 hit kill with knife which isn't really considered stealing in any way. The only game this resembles closely (in which case I'm really not all that upset. was a neat game to play the week I gave it) is our mod Zombie Panic which we released on HL1 back in 2004. Funny how people think ZPS is imitating CSS:ZS lol.

Mind you the only complaints about stability are poorly setup Listen Servers. All dedicated servers run perfecly :)
They usually edit to fit front page news. But just wanted to say NightFall is looking great! Keep up the awesome work!
