There will be an option to keep the HUD displayed rather than fading out when not in use for those that prefer it but our goal was to avoid forcing those who would like to immerse themselves in the game while avoiding any complicated system that might hinder the experience. Another gameplay vs realism decision. We look forward to sharing more in the near future!
This makes playing mods easier and benefits the modding community. It in no way harms any of their existing customers and follows Valve's tradition to make games affordable with free weekends, special holiday/etc deals, and you could get the source sdk with HL2:DM which has been $5 for a very long time. I honestly can't see any reason anyone would complain but instead I see plenty of reason to once again cheer Valve on for their incredible support of their fans/customers/community. I'm more excited for the new Tools than the updated/new engine that's been rumored.
Also, nice work Riley. I know you don't like praise but you've got great work ethic and have proven to be an asset not only to us at ZPS for so many years but now NMRiH and the entire Source community. Cheers!

Actually it is in fact illegal for fictional children to be depicted in a sexual nature that is deemed obscene. The line was drawn before today and while I appreciate free speech, I believe we need to police ourselves and our community and keep crap like this from turning into something bigger than it is which is what you're attempting to do.
Lastly, ModDB/IndieDB is in no way abusing anyones freedom of speech but instead removing a profile which is their legal right and allowing you to scream, cry, and claim whatever you like repeatedly. Enjoy your freedom of speech when claiming it's being stripped.

It's rather simple, there is freedom of speech and then there is crossing a line. If the mod were a virtual rape simulator or a filled with child pornography it would be taken down with little to no argument from the community. I understand more than most that these two topics don't come close to what this "mod" is but as I mentioned before we have lines that we know should not be crossed.
It's not a difficult conclusion to come to, though I admit that Intense attempting to assure us that free speech would not be harmed came across poorly but was meant well and should be taken for what it is, a concerned site owner trying to reassure his community that he has done what he could but in the end HAD to pull this "mod"
Updated Changelog to reflect changes that we're overlooked when updating changelog like the ability to pick up your own planted IED, headbob(can be disabled in options), planted IEDs detaching when owner dies, and more.

It's hard to keep up with you people but the shoes were already tasked to be cleaned up. They aren't as bad as you make em out to be considering the style but due to complaints on the survivors matching shoes we decided last month to work on it. Should see an update soon.

Contagion is a commercial Indie Source based game and what we've shown so far is on the old 2007 Engine. We look forward to showing off our work on a more current engine soon. As for the songs we haven't created names for our music as each is created for a specific video. We will look into this in the future. Glad you like, as for media with David Meade taking on the position of PR Rep we hope to share more with the public since the rest of us are at our desks working when we're not at our jobs working and have be lax on updates but consistent work daily.

We're always trying to improve the modification and we hope that with the release of 2.3 and quick hotfixes soon after shows that things are picking back up. The team is small but ambitious so keep smiling but with eyes peeled for our future updates :)
Sounds like you played zpS_ rather than zpO_ version of the map. In ZPO there are a number of objectives to progress and eventually find safety. Hope that helps :)
Drop unused ammo means ammo for any weapon not in your inventory.
If your parents would prefer that you did not play ZPS I'd fully support them.

Excellent Launch Trailer and what looks to be a very entertaining puzzler.

Depends on what you consider different. Contagion focuses more on survival than the intended run and gun scenario of L4D, unique features, a whole different class of Zombies and AI inspired by the older generation of Zombies, player zombies that can instantly blend in with the AI zombies but obviously pose a higher risk, infection, and much more. It is a different game and one we hope that even L4D hardcore fans will agree can be played together with L4D. We are hard at work for PAX Prime and are looking to get a demo out to you guys soon.

We've made it clear it won't play like L4D and there will be a strong focus on survival. While we're not ready to reveal much right now in the hopes that our game will stay an original idea we promise a unique game-play experience. Speculating is fun though!
Far from it. We're currently working on a playable demo for our attendance at this year's PAX Prime showing off all new works. Not to mention all the other work we've yet to reveal just yet.
As Maxx has put it, it's not that we don't want to work on mods and in most cases it's a good chance to work on project we're interested in. For many that do work on mods it may be short lived once they realize that well... they miss their families trying to handle multiple games and knowing one isn't paying the bills but the team leads are still putting on pressure because they have to. Then there are professionals who are very limited to a specific job due to a number of reasons. I'd personally prefer an enthusiastic and motivated student with talent over an industry professional for my mod. Nice work NMRiH team. Game is looking quite interesting and I love where the mod is going.

Trailer is looking good. Was a big fan of Age of Chivalry and looks like we're getting an upgraded version of that. Shame we couldn't meet at GDC but our experience was very much like yours with meetings with many of those mentioned above especially our friends over at Tripwire. We had 8 people running around with all the meeting on day 1 and everyone's legs killing them. Quite exciting and glad to hear we weren't the only ones suffering/enjoying ourselves.
For GDC the video was intentionally made to focus on Action and you're seeing an unscripted recording by someone who is very skilled and taking advantage of headshots. Unfortunately the player zombies charged straight into a group of survivors alone (I think we can all agree the Zombie who makes that mistake should pay for it).
Zombies are quite tough and hold enough HP to handle themselves fine but a proper headshot will do the trick. We look forward to showing off survival vs action as with the current balance you'd end up without ammo and dead and even those with weapons are more likely to get ambushed than have a zombie charge at them alone. Survival rate is incredibly low and while we won't force you to buy the game (don't expect people to want to buy an Alpha build anyhow) we suspect you'll have a change of opinion later with more updates. If not, we can't please everyone.
On release we promise this won't be much of a concern. They will pack the punch we all hope for in games vs the air pistols/rifles we often see in games.

We have a whole year of major updates for each month an minor updates to keep things interesting and a reminder of why we decided to go Indie. It's not about the money it's about doing what we love (though being able to keep doing it as our lives get more complicate with family and such isn't bad heh). We've already set the ground work up for both Mac and Linux. While we don't have an ETA our focus on it will jump to the top of the list soon after release (have to have a playable and balanced game set to promised release date). We will be releasing Linux and Mac!

I can't get into too many details but our pre-pre-prototype we had inmates that would run from zombies but assault players. We have quite a lot of plans post-release. Already have work done on game-modes as well we're certain will keep players happy. (All free of course so long as we can afford to move forward with it).
Game-play and missions are nothing like L4D. Objective mode which we call Escape-mode would be the closest but everything from spawning to pathing is randomly generated per round and the worlds aren't as linear. Also our zombies don't react the same. Valve wanted an action CS like experience for the general public and did a fantastic job. We want a more survival-horror feel that we will continue to tweak post-release. No heat seeking zombies AI.
NMRiH developers would disagree :) The games are completely different, in fact there is no game like Contagion currently available. We're confident you'll feel differently once we reveal our Official Contagion Full length trailer.
Also I wouldn't put it that way, the guys on NMRiH did a heck of a job. They just don't have full access to the latest Engines so they can gut it like we did and rebuild more than enough to nearly give it a new Engine name heh.
Quite a few ppl thought they were so we've reached out to those groups to clear it up. Still a full days worth of games being given out. Last game goes out midnight of the 4th of July (PST) So check every hour on the hour to see if you've been picked and have a free game waiting.
That's great! As for your community I'd probably post an announcement to introduce them to the game to see if they're interested but spreading the word is always appreciated and is the backbone of most indies. Thank you.
We will be releasing a set number of keys for a sample group. The number of keys will be limited and exclusive to the Steam Group as we're trying to better organizing our communication with the community.
We're also trying to grow the group through friends inviting friends rather than joining a large group and inviting strangers.
Requesting a key will not earn you a key no. But for those that don't receive one we are seriously considering early access.

I think you completely missed the point. No one claimed EVERY single competitive gamer is a 12 year old racist severely lacking the vocabulary to communicate with anyone over the age of 50. That said, you're more likely to be insulted or called a racial slur than not whilst playing competitive games. Personally I prefer immersive (emergent?) games where I get lost for a week. Then again I'm loving the hell out of Trials Evolution atm.

I can see how the current generation of gamers may confuse "AI zombies" with recent games like L4D and while we'd like to hold back on revealing too much about the game. What you currently see is our multi-player in action. It supports more players and more zombies, infection, play controlled zombies, numerous objectives and items that at times play the part of weapon but are vital to unlocking areas to proceed or access items that may benefit you and your team. There are so many more features and game-play elements that are in-game now and more to come that we feel avoid that annoying "feature creep" that seems to overwhelm many players in some games today that set it aside from any game currently available. Still, we're in alpha and expect to that over time we will have proven this with future updates and so hope you'll stick around to see it.
Also in regards to playing as zombie amongst zombies we've put a lot of time in resolving issues that this might pose. As for turning on your friends we believe Zombie Panic: Source's (the mod that inspired this game) incredible success over the last 4 year proves that this is definitely not a large issue. Most people once turned are quite happy to turn on their friends.
Eugene and Marcus are following the original concept first envisioned and personally we're quite happy with the results. Suppose that's why we're not calling this a sequel because while there are similarities there are more differences that follow the original game design we put together back in 05'

What ZPS actors? The team working on Contagion aren't the same people working on ZPS. We may do a recording in the studio of the voice actors in the future as we're trying to document the development of the game as we move forward but doubtful anything like that will be in the next update.
The idea is to view the costume. Image edits that don't hide the actual costume shouldn't be a problem. If you were to however add photoshopped images to your costume like gore, blood, etc that wouldn't count as a costume and would be disqualified.
lol I didn't even know South Park got around to Lovecraft but not surprised since everyone's had a go for the last 30 years and seriously dude, you're still a kid heh :) Btw I think I just saw every old gen rpg environment ever made, but still looks pretty wicked. Very tempted to buy for nostalgia!

I think #5 answers that question. You don't have to set the story within the world of Contagion but used it as an example considering we've not revealed any story. We don't want people borrowing an existing story or seeing plagiarism. Good luck :)
The video was recorded awhile ago on 2007. We aren't confirming what Engine it will be released on just yet.
The item placement was tossed together for testing to spread out on the first floor. It has since been changed like the description says and even then it wasn't enough back then heh.
We prefer the tactical approach vs run and gun. But would like to keep the answer at that for now but hordes play a tactical role as well if you think about it. I do not speak of L4D hordes which a totally different game. In the end we hope the design we're working towards will really pay off.
I was incredibly lucky to have a fan out there who does this for a living. Ulrich has and is a life saver and I love his work.

A few members of Monochrome did in fact work on ZPS, I was the founder (along side Frikazoyd), Garrador, Marks, and Swolf worked to release and update ZPS for quite some time as well. We do have a separate team under me working on the next ZPS update so that we don't lose sight of our priorities and can continue to bring you an entertaining experience whether it be a free mod or our upcoming commercial title "Contagion" which I feel very confident will not only be better but quite unique to what is available today. This Marcus follows the original design we first set out for him. Remember this is a spiritual successor and both Eugene and Marcus have been redesigned. That said we hope to answer questions players had in ZPS on their favorite characters in the future. We're very happy with the new Marcus and I can't wait to show off the new Eugene (updated considerably).

Correct 07:00PM = 19:00 in Norway that would be somewhere around 4am I believe though the (CST -6) is somewhat confusing. These guys recently brought it up to our attention and thus the Feature for numbers to help them out. Will hopefully have more information before the event begins.
Some players like full access to the files and rather than compiled it's loaded directly into sourcemods meaning players have more freedom using Desura than they do steam. The fact that desura makes installations nearly as simple definitely appeals to many.
They're both great for digital distribution and have unique specials and deals and are willing to work with developers to get things done. I only use Steam and Desura and for good reason.
The Art is nice but would like to see what else is going on behind the scenes as well, got any other assets for a reveal?

Wazanator means both SP and MP. As for L4D game-play it will be drastically different. Our focus is more on atmosphere and survival so you will need to be aware of your surroundings and won't be loaded up with ammo. Look forward to revealing more later.
We have no intention of directly competing with L4D but we do hope that fans can enjoy both.
Knowing full well this is all still a WIP (but you never know if something mentioned will help).
I love the draw sound, fire sound, ejection sound, load sound, and cocking sound.
However, where are my footstep sounds?! (heh WIP) the ejection looks off, I can't tell where they're coming out from, it looks as if there is a slot on the front left thats a bit small and sometimes shells weren't ejected (WIP I know). Also while loading shells they seemed to just appear in the hand which again looked odd (again I'm assuming this is all a WIP)

Yeh, comes across as "Furry" and not really my type of gameplay but impressed with the engine. I'm a SciFi buff and NS came close to what I was looking for in a SciFi FPS and i've been impressed with their media so far so my vote went to them but wish you guys the best of luck.

We have received donations from our community. All of this has gone to paying for hosting and domain renewals. On occasion we also put money in and host a competition. NOESIS Interactive was very generous by offering Digital Tutorials for the winners as well. Everything cent put into ZPS we put back into the community. Hehe we have day jobs to feed ourselves :)

It's Ep1 but yeh OB SDK is available with any Source game purchase including HL2 and DM (purchased) so you can still play OB mods no problem. Looking forward to seeing you on the battlefield (missing a few limbs with a shocked look on your face of course).

Being a father of 3 and living in a world where old children's stories are too gruesome to share with your kids anymore (regression?) I'd still be shocked if anyone took offense to the art style and themes currently presented for this title. I think you guys have done a wonderful job and hope to see more soon.
I'm somewhat split between Mount and Blade and Savage 2 but have to go with Savage 2: A Tortured Soul. Was impressed with the work that went into it and the quality.

LMAO A completely different "Cabin" but now that you mention it. Lets hope most forget about those horrid attempts at mapping now that this is coming out.
Thank you for the break down of the games features, design, and tools. While I agreed with some things that were mentioned there was a lot of focus put on details of the game not being properly mentioned by the developers. The Jelly fish costume tells you what it does in the costume selection when you click on it, this is quite common in most RPGs and was in no way hard to figure out. Each item tells you what it does and this is quite important when it comes to the cooking, like when you're experimenting with foods and create a poison loaf. I enjoyed experimenting and liked that the developers didn't make the mistake of only allowing items of value whether it be poison foods, costumes for the sake of variety, or neat abilities that while they don't make/break the game are fun to figure out on your own. Today's games baby gamers and hold their hand far too long and give away most of the game in the first level.
Anything worth knowing was explained, anything not explained was left for the user to figure out on their own like older generation of games did it. Though the new generation may not appreciate this which is unfortunate.
Aquaria takes the best of games like Metroid, Castlevania: SotN, and a bit of Ecco the dolphin (including the dark themes from all 3 games) and creates a new and interesting world. It's a shame more developers aren't being as creative and giving gamers a chance to play the game without the hand holding.
Aquaria is easily the best game of 2008 and the only thing it lacked was a challenge but compared to todays games is still far more challenging.
So again I may disagree with you, but with games for the last 10+ years getting more and more simplified/dumbed-down for the sake of pleasing a wider and impatient audience, I can see where you're coming from. I'm just glad not everyone sees it the same.

No offense taken considering CSS ZM and Gmod zombie mod were both derived from our HL1 mod Zombie Panic which came out long before either of those you're speaking of. It's not something that bothers us, in fact we find it rather flattering :)

I have to admit when I saw the video for this mod I laughed and told all my buddies "check this ____ out!" and we all lol'd. Of course now after playing the mod, I have to say I had a great time. Thank you so much for a very fun challenging puzzle that reminded me of TFC conc maps. My only complaint would be is that once I figured out the controls each map took me 2-3mins and I finished the game in under 10mins total (took me a bit of practice to warm up).
I highly recommend everyone try this Mod it is both original and fun. It's like a 7mb download and well worth it. Will be promoting in ZPS community. I hope to see more effort and more maps in the near future!

Yeh, I remember seeing these 2 models floating around out there for some time. Nice to see they've finally found themselves a home, but the AK really feels misplaced with this mod. Always loved that transport.
Personally all I'm seeing is reskinned Koreans (mildly reskinned, well can't even tell if they're actually reskinned), some custom (think custom) alien like sounds, and default anims where they sprint, stop, sprint, stop. AI seemed to ignore you completely for the others which just seemed odd. Crysis definitely needs a Zombie Mod cause I can see it going far. Only hope it's done right. Will check back periodically and see how things are going.
