Monochrome LLC Founder & CEO but probably best known as being the Founder and Lead Developer of the very popular HL2 Modification Zombie Panic: Source. --- （。ㅅ。）
You obviously haven't played enough to know what you're talking about. Mind you palying as survivor is meant to be a struggle and anyone familiar with ZP1 will know thats sorta the point. Game would be pretty lame if it was balanced equally but survivors had the fun toys and the zombies didnt.
1. Survivors are always faster than Zombies except when you pick up weapons/ammo. Which introduces our weight system. Each bullet has its own weight and when you fire a round that bullet no longer adds to your weight. This is the purpose of the Panic button, so when you're being chased and your best bet is to ditch gear and run you can. Though Zombies have as (very short) lunge ability which lets em speed up and if used wisely jsut enough to take down that pestering survivor who's always running around you in circles.
2. Zombies are not fast unless using lunge. Most people complain about their speed as being too slow so I was a bit surprised at your comment. Zombies are slow but strong with a short reach. It's part of the balance and yes I believe its needs adjusting and we've still got our internal PT's going for just this purpose as well as following your guy's games. As for handling zombies any experienced survivor with a decen amount of ammo/weapons can easily handle 3 zombies less he gets rushed around a corner with no room to maneuver but thats the point of the game. With our random ammo/weapon/zombie spawns it forces players to relearn the map while always watching out for the enemy. It's about fear and helplessness not being Rambo (which we intentionally made suicidal). Again if you're not looking for a challenging zombie game or want just a spamfest. ZPS is not for you a lot more thought was put into this mod.
Experienced players seem to do well with the game winning on average 1 out of 8 games or so during our playtests. We liked those odds and so we only adjusted things a little bit for release. We knew that once out in the public we may get a better chance to see where our initial ideas fail and where our balancing would begin. We still want to keep the helpless feeling but not take away the players hope. Always appreciate constructive criticism and will do our best to turn it into something the fans will enjoy.
Sorry but i'll pass on the CS copy cat mod. Zombie Panic on HL1 was exactly what it was suppose to be but lacked atmosphere, content, and needed more variety. Just because there were a few mods built around the idea of ZP1 doesn't mean the original creators should let poor replacements get in the way of our original idea. The game is a blast to play and survivors aren't meant to have it easy. It's true survival horror and that means chances are you're gonna lose. If it's not your type of game then you're wasting your time trying to change it into something other than "The" zombie mod :)
With the bugs soon out of the way, linux build here shortly, professional animations already 80% finished, 3 more character models (that 6 total if you count zombie counterpart) practically already in the game, and most everything HL2 almost phased out as it is with these coming patches, I'd hate to let down our loyal fans as well as those who are into the theme. There are very few zombie mods (released) and those that are coming like NMRiH dont need to hear the same ol bs. I say "more" zombie mods! If you don't like ZPS you'll like NMRiH and vice versa. They're different games with the same theme a theme we've rallied around.
lol. cause it has a few bugs its all of a sudden another cs zombie mod? We invented it first of all. It's a first release with a lot of quality content. Quit expecting a Beta to be a Commercial game and be more constructive with your crits or find something better to do with your time than troll.
Cause both are causing me trouble atm :P
Will be fixed with upcoming patch. Sorry for inconvenience.
indeed... I need sleep... almost
I'm still awake 22hours now. So you know the Installer is 654mb. Will update again soon.
Its still early morning on release day. Stop making a fool of yourself and spamming. It'll be released today on time and not "LATE" if its late for you... go to bed :P
Well considering Zombie Panic was the first MP Zombie mod. Was quite popular on HL1 and has averaged over 3000 unique visitors a day for over 2 years. It's doing ok.
I live in Japan it's 23:54PM here in Kyoto so release will be the 29th for me heh. Meaning I'm not sleeping until it releases. Lets just say I'll hurt more than anyone else.
It's only 6:51am on the 28th. lol taking awhile is 9pm :P Remember timezone is PST. So quit looking at 'your' clock :)
I edited the profile so that we are still an Upcoming mod for ModDB's 2007 Mod Awards. Dont' worry we're still releasing Dec 28th, 2009 (heh)
Guys be patient its still early morning for all. Mod isn't released yet. But I promise I will make a post and edit our profile when it is.
lol we don't follow everyones timezone it's 7:38pm on the 28th for me... We are working under PST. You'll have the mod today. Don't ask for a time or where it is till the 29th :P heh
No bother at all. You'll notice a lot of vehicles look similar in games but we went with the impala because not only is it a civilian vehicle it is also a taxi and police car in the real world. So it fits and makes it easier for us to add variety. The base is the same but in game it's not something you're gonna notice unless you're just being anal.
Actually I hadn't thought of that at all (serious) We chose the 28th for the day it's on (Friday) and our own timeframe. But that's cool none the less.
Check out Moddb.com Zombie Panic: Source and educate yourself :)
Horror/Zombies vote Zombie Panic!
Word is ZPS will be announcing something soon :)
Vote ZP:S and visit us at Zombiepanic.org
Wow not sure how that happened. Thanks for catching that. Nah at this time we only support windows.
I find it funny that you insist on knowing the level of progress involved in ZP:S and yet... I don't remember hiring you on the team. Or is it I declined your application and now your bitter? As for experience both coders on the team are very experienced. But honestly your immaturity and insults will handle this issue for me.
Thats the spirit heh
Ah, the good old Quake/HL1 modding days, when people were a lot less impatient and understanding heh (mind you it was a lot easier to get the work done too). Guys, I can't wait to play so keep up the good work and don't burn yourself out.
Always looking for new talent. Check out our forums and apply with some sample work.
Always nice to be appreciated :)
Didn't NMRiH use the same mall? Think a few other potentials did the same over the years.
Don't want anyone making assumptions one way or the other. But quite a bit more work is done than what Groupyl has led himself to believe and the release date is still TBD. We won't rush the game out but hope to get it to you guys as soon as we can without sacrificing quality.
Very impressive work.
Alright the competition is closed and we're now reading through the stories. Any story that exceeds 550 words will automatically be disqualified as the rules and warnings to those who posted over were stated. Will announce this weekend (possibly earlier).
Any source sdk game (inluding hl2:dm) comes with the tools necessary to run total conversions on any 2006 or 2007 (OB mods), this wasn't always the case I know but is now.
Congrats to Unknown Worlds and the rest up on that list. Hoping 2011 is going to be an awesome year for gaming.
They've never announced or hinted how many votes a mod has received in the past and may likely keep it that way.
The description says it all. You're welcome to read it.
Congrats guys. Wishing you the best of luck
For this category I'd have to say Smashball hands down as being the most innovative.
Though, I haven't played EiR and it sounds very interesting.
Good luck to the winners.
It's probably true :/
F U Ryan and Dave!
I'll be sure to go over it, thank you.
Lots of fun, but with a ping over 100 (Living in Japan was at 120 on the best server I could find) ruined the experience considerably. Hopefully we'll see more servers but for the majority of players it's definitely worth the download. Nice work guys.
the NT:S team is a really big fan, your stuff is really well done.
HL2 (the original game) and all source games give you access to the Source SDK Base - OB. We (ZP:S Team) had to test this awhile back when we moved over to the OB SDK. If regular HL2 owners couldn't play we'd never have upgraded.
