We are back to work. First task in this year - five vehicles for IDELF 2008 historical exposition. For this exposition used 6 vehicles from museum: T-26 mod.1939, T-30, T-70, BA-3M, T-38 and ASU-57 first prototype. All vehicles in running condition. T-30 is been ready: after full-scale quality repaint in spring 2007 he don't need new repaint. We have very limited time, and can use only modern KhV green paint, in fact, quality of this psint is low. need repaint vehicles in future anyway.
Works started in 2 august, ended in 16 august. Results:
T-26 Mod.1939, repainted as a tank from belorussian front, summer 1941. Have 3-tone camo.

T-38, have basical markins of Red Army tanks, they used from 1932 to 1938. Painted as a tank from military parade, Moscow, 1 May 1937. Markings mean: solid red stripe - first batallion; blue dotted line - fourth company; blue square - fourth platoon (fourth - only for parade); white number 5 - number of vehicle in parade line (white number - for parade only)

T-70, original markings of this tank. Serial number: 2 - mean 1942, 09 - september; 155 - 155 produced vehicle in this month.

BA-3M, typical prewar markings of Red Army tanks and armored vehicles. Markings mean: solid white stripe - second batallion; red dotted line - first company; white square - second platoon; white number 4 - number of vehicle in parade line (white number - for parade only)

ASU-57 prototype, 1949. Have soviet ariborne emblems on the sides of hull.

Few new shots inside, from Africa campaign (Tiger included), and Normandy. Check Normandy vegetation, it's main reason, why mappers want to change battlefields :)
BTW, first FH2 release been for me checking of not famous battlefield popularity. Now we can see:
- Most popularity battlefield - Normandy campaign, it's true of life. Of course, you can start from different battlefield, but success not guaranteed, absolutely not guaranteed.
- Africa campaign have low popularity. One of main reason - "hollow" maps, with lery low vegetation, buildings etc. For strategy game it's not a big problem, but for FPS...
Anyway, selection of Africa for first release not been a mistake. It's been a very good experience. One of biggest modding advantage - you can do every experiments without wasting of money, unlike commercial project.

Little historical background: in 1933 soviet engineers start development of remote controlled tanks. It's been T-26 based tank, TT-26, with KS-25 flamethrover, remote controlled from T-26 based command tank, TU-26. 55 tanks (TT-26) build from 1935 to 1938, used in september 1939 campaign against Poland, Winter War and in Great Patriotic War (almost all lost in june-july 1941 combats). Last TT-26 preserved in Kubinka tank museum, last TU-26 preserved in Central Armed Forces Museum (Moscow).
When we start repaint TT-26 we want to do this tank:
Same camo scheme used in 1939 Poland campaign, it's a good addition for Red Army camo exposition in Kubinka tank museum Hangar #3 (light tanks).
Preserved TT-26 is a 1935-36 production tank. In spring 2007 he already hame more 3 mm of paint layers, with "corocdile skin" effect, no chance for simple overpaint
We have only one way in this situation - full paint removing and full repaint.
12 May: let's start!
Initial idea for paint layers removing - using of SP-6 paint remover (real effective stuff!) and palette-knife, later using of angle sander for finish paint removing operation. Effective method, but not for this tank!
You can see result of 4 hours of work. Only 1-2 mm of layers is removed, real die hard!
19 may
Anyone want a soup (SP-6 paint remover, 50l)? :)
