Cool, which ship is it that is cloaked? Can't quite decide if it looks like a Klingon Bird of Prey or a Romulan Warbird seen from below. Probably wrong on both counts.

Lovely effect.

Thanks, and it is constantly improving, already there have been tweaks made to this particular asset to improve its lore accuracy. That's the great thing about Star Wars, you can look at it for 30 years and still discover new details that you never noticed before.

And you mention Star Wars: Battlefront 3. Will we get our Hoth map out before that? I sure hope so, once again remember that we're doing this for free, and you're getting it for free, not for 50 quid. So I sure hope SW:BF3 is better than our mod, but I don't think I'm being delusional in thinking that our humble mod, and the significant other Star Wars themed shooter mods out there have played no small part in showing that there is a market out there hungry for this game and that it will have helped that to finally become a reality.

Well that's a pretty negative post. Yes we have not released any significant new content in some time now, but the end is in sight. Our player base is currently low, but that is endemic of the former point. Our organized events do draw in new players, but only new content will have 'em stick around, and that is what we aim to give them. Hoth isn't the only map we're currently working on, and though that is not yet ready, our other maps are close, so look out for news on that front soon.

You mention the years we've been working on this mod, and it has been some time, but in that time we have released a considerable amount of content since the original release, each one building on and broadening the player experience available to those who choose to try out First Strike, including adding a single player mode and then more robust bot support to improve that experience, not to mention new maps and enhancements and polish to existing ones.

The team is now down to a skeleton crew and progress is slow, we're going to end on a high with some of our most significant maps to date before we close up shop. Are there more popular engines out there we could work on? Of course, but the engine we use does what we need it to, and in some cases, things a lot of the newer engines can't.

At the end of the day we're doing this project in our spare time, and how we decide to spend that spare time is up to us. Will people come back to First Strike in their droves to try out our new content on release? Who can say? All we can do is do the work and get it out there, and then what will be will be.

Excellent. Have been following this for a long time and it never fails to impress. Have any previous official Star Trek games featured saucer separation? That could be a very sweet additional layer to the gameplay of this project, and will certainly look impressive when you first see that happening in game.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, should be a lot of fun. We already have the base blocked out in game for testing and the layout proved to be lots of fun to play with wide open spaces and corridors for close quarters action.

If you refer to some of our earlier posts regarding Hoth you'll see that we're going with an overall layout for Echo Base loosely based on the cutaway map produced for the DK Star Wars: Complete Locations book, so we have decided to use Hangar 7 and a much larger hangar around the back which houses the Galofree Rebel Transports, but we have no current plans to throw in references to the Outrider and Otana.

If you're still having trouble I'd say your still in the installation process. Check the link out as it does a good job of covering any of the issues you might be running into. Most people can get First Strike to work right away, but for some people they may run into any number of issues that tend to be easy fixes. Reading that article is just a good way of discovering what they are and gives you suggestions on how to go about fixing them.

Hi GunnerExurkun, welcome to the mod. Head to the link below which gives an in depth and detailed overview of the installation process for First Strike, and some of the issues you may run into and how to solve them. It might be quite old, but the material is still valid. Check that out and see if you can address your problems via that. If you still have issues after following those instructions get back in touch and we'll see what we can do.

Best of luck.

Heh heh, sure looks that way doesn't it? Basically Yavin is a defense map for the Empire, so with low numbers it can be quite difficult to defend on that map. Becomes more balanced when you have greater numbers. We tend to make the final map worth big points to keep things interesting, but going from these results I guess we'll have to stop doing that.

That pesky battle station scuppered the Empire yet again. The Emperor would like to get in contact with the Death Star's lead designers, and the chief contractors who worked on the construction of the Empire's pride and joy for a quiet chat.

It is Lord Starkiller, believe me, especially with a high volume of players. The 64 player version for example adds some of the capital ships featured in Battle of Taloraan into the mix. Check out the video section for footage of Escape From Hoth and some of our other maps in action.

Thanks for the compliments on the stories, they're doing their job then. They're based in part on the background fictions for the maps in question, but also on actual events which have occurred in the rounds played. I for example was the demolitions trooper on the Bestine blowing up Rebel Freerunners. It just helps to illustrate how much fun the game is and the exciting possibilities offered up by the gameplay. All being well it should encourage more people to give it a try.

Additionally if you like the stories you can find more examples on the First Strike forums, some by myself and others by FSDev Twigs who has written some absolute corkers that are well worth a read.
