ENIGMA : A Full Conversion mod

Mod review

You removed the copyrighted files in the new version, which I sincerely appreciate. I'll up the rating a bit for the kinda quick fixed issue.

I will maybe play this at a later time, mainly to see how the mod itself is which will hopefully up the rating even further.

Patience

Mod review

This custom story is descent in terms of level design, scripting, voice acting and music. But it's the fact that this custom story is pretty empty otherwise, if you look at the storyline and length of the custom story.

I know that this custom story is meant to be a joke in general, but if you're gonna do so at least make it funny in some way. You were instead building up a story that seemed promising for a detailed and nice custom story. And then in the ending you just run it into the ground and the "Liek if u kry every tim" just made me "Come on...".

I don't have much else to say, since I didn't find any errors in the levels themselves. The scripting is pretty sweet and the level design (despite being short af) is quite good. But this is very empty and I didn't expect this from you.

Like mentioned previously, you could've put more effort into it despite being a joke cs. I would recommend putting in some jokes, filling in better what the cs was firstly meant to be. It would do good since this particular storyline isn't really one to joke around with.

I usually don't rate like this, but I just had to see what you did with that grunt.

Nope. Not accepting that.

Brutal Changes

Mod review may contain spoilers

As a request from one of my friends, he wanted me to try this custom story and see what I thought about it. Now, this is what I think.

I sort of recognize myself making this custom story, mainly because of the scares it has. I did this in my other mod (The Fugitive 2) with popping up enemies, fast walking enemies and cheap stuff like that. It was not well received to my mod. It's not from me either to this custom story. I learned afterwards that scares like this is a mistake and very immerse-breaking. If you want the player to feel scared, let the player do the work for you.

The story itself was quite weird. You just spawn in the bedroom and then you're off to the find your way out (for some reason). It wasn't until the ending where you got some clear stuff about what was going on.

Also, who was I? I was appearntly some random stranger that I never found out who I was. I was just there for some reason it seems like.

I encountered a few glitches here and there as well. Holes in the ceiling, broken puzzles (the manniquin statue on the table was stuck leaning the wrong way when you've clicked one of the buttons once and wrong), checkpoints after death not working (or added in) properly. After the machine room too, when I got to back to the foyer, my game crashed. Turned out there were two script errors (which I fixed myself), but make sure your game FULLY works before you release it.

Your puzzles were maybe too requiring and too unlogical. Some things didn't even remotely make sence or some just had some things that were not too obvious to notice. The puzzles weren't really hard, but they had very strict requirements.

I have to admit though, I didn't expect to find the Stalker from Tenebris Lake in this custom story. Good thing you guys got in a custom enemy.

The Barn's Secrets -Full Release-

Mod review may contain spoilers

Firstly, it's a custom story with great potential and creativity and it is surely worth a play, but some parts and in; the whole custom story in general, is lacking some important things.

What firstly bothered me the most was the fact of the levels themselves. They were nicely detailed and very well made compared to others, but other than that, most levels didn't hold anything else. It just just that catacomb, the train station and the orphanage that I felt something was going on.
What I mean is that the levels just went by super quick. It felt like a sight-scene tour like in Amnesia A Machine for Pigs, where it's mainly the levels beautiful level design and creativity, but you don't get to embrace it properly and you just move on to the next level.

I also felt kinda lost with the story. Some parts of it actually goes away from non-common sense and becomes rather strange. I could get the basic idea of what was going on, but I felt like detail could've been put into place. (plus, I saw some grammar errors here and there too, but nothing too serious).

Also, I couldn't entirely get that immersed into what the hell was going on in the dark as being in the dark generally. The level changes went on way too quick for me to actually connect to the level and atmosphere itself. It kind of ruined the gameplay for me and I wish it didn't.

Now, time for the good stuff about this :P

Some of the levels have some very nice creativity and originality. They were nicely detailed (some way better than what I ever put effort into...) and you seem to know your stuff about detailing maps properly.

The catacombs were a pretty cool place. It's like a recreation of your prison in your first custom story. The music in that level is making it very atmospheric and it build up tension. A tip in the future is to not make the levels go by so quick. Add in some gameplay so people can actually connect to it better.

So, a quick summarisation.

Pros:

- Really creative and good looking environment
- Originality
- Custom music, sounds
- Custom in general

Cons:

- Story was not too easy to connect to
- Levels are not very long in general
- Very short when you know what to do (took me 20 minutes to finish it again)
- Lacking atmosphere

8/10 Worth a run

Amnesia: In A Heartbeat

Mod review

At the moment, I honestly cannot say I'm too impressed so far. I also have no clue what the hell I am doing. The lack of clues is almost ridiculous. The only thing I've found out so far is that I need to drain the water to go downstairs. It doesn't tell me what I need to do to do that or what I need to change.

The lack of clues is very bad for this mod, so atm I would recommend adding in more clues in a patch or something. Its got potential but it's lacking stuff.

Take note also that is just a temporarly review and it will not remain like this. Until I can finish the mod, this is the current review you're gonna get from me.

The Subconscious Trials

Mod review may contain spoilers

This was a really impressive mod. I was shocked of what it gave to me and it actually scared the living **** out of me in some parts. The stories you offered was really nice. I liked every single one, as they're interesting, intense and scary.

But, as pretty much every mod, it comes with its flaws. I began raging a little bit when I came into the very cool looking machine room. I placed the cogwheels and put the oil in the fuel machine and solved that puzzle in no time, but then it came over to those three wheels and four levers. I know that the note said it was to redirect sewer water, and that each lever corresponds as East, South, North and West. But what else? If there were any more clues on how to do it, where were they? It seemed more like a guessing game there, and there were so many combinations. Would recommend giving an extra clue there, since I don't even know if I solved it properly.

When I got to the barn, I really got myself immersed. The story in here was amazing and interesting that I had to read every note I found. The ritual room was really cool and I was about to encounter that brute. However, I encountered (I'm guessing) a bug. The brute was appearntly in love with the doorway and was stuck there for some reason. Also, why were there two brutes? There was one wandering in the forest and one walking inside the barn. Is there meant to be two?

Then the little maze, and I really did not expect this. That was the scariest part of the game I'm guessing and it scared the **** out of me thanks to that I accidently turned off my lantern. Had goosebumps for a while and had to rest for a bit before I continued. But also, those ghasts (I'm guessing they are) were very hard to see. They disappeared when you came up close to them and sometimes you can't see them if they're around the corner. I did it in two attempts however so it wasn't too big of a problem.

Then I got to where the system collapses and the level design becomes odd. I liked the ideas you provided, but this was more of a rage level to me than enjoyable. The parkour with the monoliths floating was quite difficult, maybe way too difficult than what it needs to be. But yet again, it wasn't a too big issue. And then I got to the candles in the dark. This was god damn hard. The pattern you've set out doesn't probably fit with the candles and its too hard to remember in the head. This took me about 20-25 attempts.

And then when I had to escape the whole trials area, that was almost even worse. Super hard to see where you had to go and unforgiving if you screw up. I didn't have too much issue with this either, but I can imagine a few who will cry of rage from this.

But overall, I really enjoyed this. This was a really nice custom story with a ton of potential. You guys have inspired me in my own work and I'm really glad I gave this a shot. However, personally I think that you could create all this in a couple of months if you're fast, not two and a half years. I understand you took long breaks in between, but I feel like you could've created more.

Maybe I'm just asking for too much, since I would love to play more of this. Just make sure there are not too much parkour and too hard puzzles in the future :P
