After my first experience with online games in 2000 I've build up and successfully ran several large online clans. In 2001 climbed up the ladder in Starlancer and managed to become one of the most successful players worldwide in that game aswell as leader of the largest clan. Since that I stuck to the Sci-fi game genre. In 2002 the SWAT Portal was founded and since that I am leading this Sci-fi Game Portal that supports a large range of games. One of these games is Freelancer. Not long after its release in 2003 I've started modding the game (my modding experiences with other games reach back to 1993 where I've created my first work). Until now I've created 4 Freelancer mods and assisted countless of other Mod projects. The Crossfire Mod which is currently my main project keeps holding the Top position of the Freelancer mods for several years. Most important for me is the success of the SWAT Community and its members aswell as professional work.

You have selected the OpenSP (Open Singleplayer without story) on the launcher. Thats why.

Dont use autosaves. Autosaves store wrong mission triggers for some unknown reason.

There are mission generated savegames (the ones with the mission names), they will work much better.

The ending should play a cut scene.
Maybe you just missed a story trigger.

There is one region of space in the mod which has instable jump holes. That is normal.

That depends on your taste.
Ive seen screenshots of other players at www.swat-portal.com using pretty much every kind of shader option.

I personally use the sweetfx one.

You said that the window mode is working.
Why dont you simply stick with that and press alt+enter when you are on the main menu. That enables the full screen.

The mod does not have a problem with your graphic card. The problem is the transparency of windows that was introduced with windows vista and later is used on windows 7 windows 8 and windows 10.

On windows 10 for me the compatiblity modes for windows 7 and windows 8 did help. I have changed the properties of the Freelancer.exe and only enabled the windows 7 compatiblity mode and "run as administrator". That seems to fix the black screen and all other issues.

Every version works but 1.0 is recommended.
The 1.1 patch is by default not needed on a client version.

You probably should try to change the shader settings on the launcher options to vanilla. Some newer graphic cards seem to have problems with the default shader.

Maybe there is a write protection that prevents that these files can be written to your HDD.

No, I didn't ignore any of your points... I explained everything in detail.
But pretty much since you did your first post here you appeared to try to make this mod look bad somehow (just like you try to make me look bad now for explaining the process of creating the mod and why we did things the way we did).
The colors of the nebulas didnt please you... the transparency... the voices... a ship crashed into a planet (which happens in every FL mod and also in vanilla FL)... the ship placement in the very few systems you have visisted... etc.
And now it does not please you when I explain to you why the stuff is the way it is.

You have very little knowledge about this mod, very little experience with the unique gameplay of this mod and very little experience what it takes to create such a mod. So based on what do you think you are able to judge?
You are complaining about something that you haven't even really experienced as a whole.
You are complaining about minor crap and make it look like it's game breaking.

And yes, the reviews are right... more than 90% are positive with about 500 people that gave it a 10/10.
To be honest I personally don't really care about the others. Every idiot which got banned for cheating or rule violations on the server submitted a negative review... every mod creator which wasn't allowed to take our assets submitted a bad review.
If I just delete the reviews of other mod creators then Crossfire all of a sudden would get a 9.6 rating.
It is not my job to please you or any particular player out there.
It is my job to please the majority of players and thats where I did job damn good.
Most AAA rated games didn't get such good reviews.

So yeah... haters gonna hate.
Have a nice day.

1. I dont know. Without detailed information it could practically be anything starting from a wrong installation to a damaged savegame.
2. The original game has 13 missions (not more). You can still play them the way you could in the original game and the new Crossfire missions (45) start right after you have completed mission 13.
3. You launch it just like the normal game.

3. And you are noticing exactly the right thing.
Most of the new high-level ships are located in areas that made sense based on the storyline. We have not simply dropped all out new ships in the vanilla systems and spammed the game with new ships and equipment. This is a mod with a story... and unlike the original game which has a fixed system layout with fixed factions and powers, everything we have added is based on a developing story. It makes no sense to flood the original systems with ships that are based on technology that is actually developed AFTER the events of the original storyline. Therefore these ships were placed in regions that were discovered AFTER the original Freelancer storyline. Same applies to new equipment.
For the Crossfire 2.0 release we even had community members which helped us not narrow down where it makes sense to put specific new ships in the original story... just at the right places. Alot of work went in the right placement of ships and equipment based on the Starlancer storyline, the Freelancer storyline and what evolved out of if.

4. But you are aware that ALL sizes in Freelancer are not realistic... not even close to that? There are spaceships with the size of a country and space stations with the size of a continent and suns just a few thousands km away from populated planets. Dont even start with such a crap.
Nothing in this game is realistic. Not the sizes, not the distances not even the layout of the systems. The game is meant to look good... and thats what it perfectly does.

5. How many Freelancer mods do you know which have voice acting?
More than one?
Well, I know just one other mod with custom voices and that only in a relative limited way.
Crossfire has roughly 2000 additional voice samples. The fact that we even decided to include custom voices shows which amount of dedication went into the details of this mod.
Voice acting is pretty hard to do.
Not only do you need to have a good microphone... you also need good native speakers which can do the job and which also have a voice that fits to the original voices.
In case of FL there many different voices spoken by different voice actors. The voices we added are as close to the original voice tones of these different actors as we technically could make it.
More is simply not possible without hiring the original actors and a professional studio which modulize the samples to exactly the same levels as the originals.
Voice acting is extremly difficult, extremely time consuming and also extremely expensive.
But you can prove me wrong here and show me how good you are voice acting Juni.

You wrote that whatever you call "issues" breaks the immersion.
The way I see it there is no other FL mod around which has such an immersive environment with all the details, the graphics, the light settings, the storyline, the action everywhere, the small side stories and news everywhere and of course also all the different new voice samples and completely new voices. There simply is no other mod which has such a high grade of detail and immersion.
You see "issues"... I see meanwhile 9 Mod Award nominations which tell a different kind of story.

And dont get me wrong now. I am not trying to be overly defensive about my work. I am just trying to show you that this mod evolved to its current version over a period of more than 10 years. Most parts of this mod are the way they are because of player feedback. The look, the sound and the gameplay were highly influenced by the players of our community.
We did what other FL developers considered impossible and we did it as good as it was technically possible.

To be honest I dont really know what you are trying to do here or what you expect. You completely ignore many aspects of the mod while expecting something that this mod never was meant to be.

For the original game 50-100 developers took 6 years to get the game done. This mod, which is about 8 times bigger and by far more complex was created mainly by two people and a handful of helpers and contributors. We took care of every tiny detail to make this mod perfect and from my point of view thats what it is.

1. The AI is exactly what it is meant to be. The difficulty is exactly the way how the players of the mod wanted it. The mod was created for the players of our community and having a challenging gameplay even over long periods of time is what has kept this mod running for more than a decade while most other mods no longer exist. If Crossfire would be as boring as most other mods there would not be any players left enjoying it.

2. You say that 30000 reward is much? No it isnt. Good ships in this mod cost you 10mio. Some ships even cost you multiple hundred million. Equipment easily could cost you 50 mio or more.
Putting aside that your 30000 statement isnt even correct since the reward depends on the rank of the prisoner and therefore on the difficulty settings between these ranks.
I also wonder what your statement about the ships is based on... did you simply compare the number of guns to make such a judgement? There are no expensive ships which perform worse than the vanilla ships. Infact we have spend alot of time with the balancing of the ships based on the player feedback which we got over the years.
Combat performance is more than just the number of guns on a ship. Turn rates, innertia, cargo holds, power levels, thrust, ship size, weapon placement, equipment slots, cruise speed... weapon levels, special equipment slots... etc. All that has a major impact on the ship performance and justifies the cost of the more expensive ships. Even just a small detail just like the position of a weapon has major impact on the combat performance of a ship. These details are the difference between a won or a lost fight.
And in the mod we also have many specialized ships that only exist for specific tasks which are very important in MP.

Oh and in a dynamic economy it of course can happen that one day you make huge profit on a traderoute as you described... and on the next day you earn nearly nothing. Thats the point... it is random. Next to that had the original game also such traderoutes.

Thats because nebulas always are transparent when you are close to them in reality.

And the clouds colors are based on the original values.

The style of the game has not changed, all nebulas, planets etc. keep their original style and color... just much more detailed.

The 150.000$ starting money is optional for the players which have problems with the new difficulty and is just enough to buy a slightly better ship for the first missions. If you dont need it... well... nobody is forcing you to use it.
Later in the game you will notice that 150k is not much money.
