After my first experience with online games in 2000 I've build up and successfully ran several large online clans. In 2001 climbed up the ladder in Starlancer and managed to become one of the most successful players worldwide in that game aswell as leader of the largest clan. Since that I stuck to the Sci-fi game genre. In 2002 the SWAT Portal was founded and since that I am leading this Sci-fi Game Portal that supports a large range of games. One of these games is Freelancer. Not long after its release in 2003 I've started modding the game (my modding experiences with other games reach back to 1993 where I've created my first work). Until now I've created 4 Freelancer mods and assisted countless of other Mod projects. The Crossfire Mod which is currently my main project keeps holding the Top position of the Freelancer mods for several years. Most important for me is the success of the SWAT Community and its members aswell as professional work.

Strange, I never had to do that on my Windows 10 installation.

Well, we were assuming that you installed dx9 during the Freelancer installation. There is a small popup requesting to do so.
But you are right. We will add this to the instructions.

Pretty strange that it shows up as activated since FLMM stores information about active mods in the registry.

However, my suggestion at that point would be to delete or rename the FL folder first and then in FLMM use the restore backups option. It will tell you that it failed to restore backups (0 files restored...etc). Then close FLMM and put that FL Folder back where it originally was (or reinstall FL).

Now when you launch FLMM again the mod should display as deactivated. Before you activate it check in the FLMM options if the correct Freelancer folder is selected (just to be sure).
Dont worry if FLMM stops responding during the mod activation (thats normal). It keeps doing its job in background.

Well, that we dont allow new members to register is not correct. Registration is possible and grants access to pretty much everything on the website. However, it is not required since detailed installation instructions aswell as a very detailed FAQ (covering pretty much every possible error source) are available even without registration.

The mod itself is not broken, its actually has by far less bugs than the original game. The problem you describe sound more like an issue with access permissions on your PC. This is most likely due to tools which change user permissions on windows or set write protections to specific files or directories. Since I dont know what is installed on your PC or which settings your Windows has it is pretty hard to tell whats wrong. All I can say is that the Mod has been working perfectly for many thousands of other players.

What I can suggest at that point is to install a clean copy of Freelancer into "C:\Freelancer" instead of "c:\program files\..." because very often AV tools and firewalls restrict permissions in that folder. Then make sure the FLMM installs the mod into the correct folder (manually set the folder)... and dont install any FL patches that you might have found somewhere on the net. If the daily launcher updates of the mods still dont work you can try to rename the freelancer.exe to freelancer2.exe. Launch it... let it patch... done.

Yes, we keep updating this mod with new features regulary.
No, you can not use your singleplayer ship in multiplayer since that is only stored on your PC but not on the server (thats just the way it works).
The MP offers a bunch of features that you dont have in SP... like roleplay, bountyhunts or constructing new stations.

The black intro is due to specific windows settings
you can avoid it by running the game in window mode and then switching to fullscreen via alt+enter

Dunno about the mouse problem you described. Ive never heard that anyone had such a problem before.

Try changing the shader option to vanilla on the launcher.
There has been a Windows 10 update causing problems with other shader options (I assume that is the problem here).

Thats why we included different options including the vanilla
not every shader setting is supported by all hardware and I am not able to test it under different hardware.
That might change next month but until then your only option is to use vanilla.

You can try changing the shaders on the launcher options. But to be honest this sounds like some textures went missing during the installation.

The ships are not broken, their cockpits are just too small for the pilot mesh. For most ships we found a solution but not for all since it is more important to keep the balance of the ships (not to make them too big in general) and to keep the original design which is intentional since these are Starlancer ships that are supposed to look like that (details are explained via story).
Dunno what you mean with the weapon placement. We have a bunch of players which tested all ships and their hardpoints and already we already made corrections based on their input.

try lowering your settings on the options
some systems can be a bit more resource demanding

no, and disabling the mod with FLMM wont work since FLMM deactivation function actually isnt working correctly on large mods

thats not possible
cruise speed is tied to the engine of the ship
upgrades are not possible

SWAT_OP-R8R @ Crossfire 2.0

1. Ive just checked that shipyard and can not reproduce the crash issue. I do not get any crashes there.

2. The original Cuise speed is 300. In Crossfire the cruise got increased to 450 which is reasonal and already adresses the size of the systems. Depending on ship classes the speed can be even higher (scouts and light fighters have higher speeds).
There are special ships which can even reach 900 cruise speed but actually that speed is way too fast to navigate through specific areas of the game (so these ships are usually off limits to ordinary players in SP). Such high speeds also would cause conflicts with timed triggers of the story campaign.

3. Are there other mods compatible with Crossfire? -> No
Other mods would overwrite important settings and will only cause crashes, instabilities and problems with the storyline.
Next to that do we not give any support to people which alter the original Crossfire files.

Either this (vanilla) file is missing or you dont have the permission to write that file in that directory.

The 16 files belong to the daily updates (thats normal). They are not big (just a few kb).

That doesnt change the fact that files have to be downloaded when we do updates to the mod.

SWAT_OP-R8R
SWAT_OP-R8R @ Freelancer 2.0: Crossfire

We use Launcher and updater for many years meanwhile and it always did its job perfectly.
The only reason I can imagine is that some software on your PC prevents the launcher to write the files correctly. Once a player had similar problem where a security tool always restored the original files from a backup source.
It also might be that there are security settings which prevent that the launcher can write files on your HDD.
You also should check if the files in your FL directory are maybe write protected for some reason.

Like I said... the launcher does its job perfectly (unless other programs cause a mess).

Also needs to be mentioned that once a day there is an update which requires the player to restart Freelancer in order to get the latest market information and the states of the dynamic economy. That update is announced on the console.

I dont know why it is slow for you. The files are on a high-end server hosted with a 100mbit connection.
It is not possible to mail the files to you since the launcher checks your installation and decides which files it needs. Some of the files are a bit larger (20-50mb). So they could take a bit longer to download.
