After my first experience with online games in 2000 I've build up and successfully ran several large online clans. In 2001 climbed up the ladder in Starlancer and managed to become one of the most successful players worldwide in that game aswell as leader of the largest clan. Since that I stuck to the Sci-fi game genre. In 2002 the SWAT Portal was founded and since that I am leading this Sci-fi Game Portal that supports a large range of games. One of these games is Freelancer. Not long after its release in 2003 I've started modding the game (my modding experiences with other games reach back to 1993 where I've created my first work). Until now I've created 4 Freelancer mods and assisted countless of other Mod projects. The Crossfire Mod which is currently my main project keeps holding the Top position of the Freelancer mods for several years. Most important for me is the success of the SWAT Community and its members aswell as professional work.

wow

Nearly every plugin file seems to crash or at least the game crashes when executing them.
These plugins are used in many other mods aswell and they inject new features into the original game. My guess at this point is that something on your PC prevents that these plugins can exchange data with the original game correctly.

You have mentioned the windows defender above. My advice at this point would be to test if the game works correctly if you temporarily disable the windows defender. You can disable your internet connection for the duration of that test to prevent that your PC is vulnerable.
If the Windows Defender really is the problem here then you could create an exception for Freelancer in Windows Defender.

It is totally strange that you get crashes on a perfectly installed mod. Even more strange is that it happens in two different places which actually are not much modded at all. The only thing that is changes in the cut scene and New York are some textures.

Can you tell me what hardware you play on?
And maybe you can send me a crash log.
For that you can use the eventviewer of Windows.
A small instruction can be found here: Howtogeek.com

You will be able to find the crash log for Freelancer in "Windows Logs" and then "Applications". Just search for an error around the time the crash happened.

Maybe we can at least find out which part of the game is causing the crash.

Ok I have checked all files. The difference in files is almost exclusively based on backup files. So its nothing to worry about.
The md5 codes also fit.

The only real difference I was able to spot is one file but I am actually not sure if this can cause the problem you described. But its worth a try. Download the zip and put the dll file in it into your "\Freelancer\EXE\" folder.
Swat-portal.com

If that doesn`t work then I cant really explain why you get crashes. Maybe we can try it with a different savegame.

There is a tool called hashmyfiles. You could use this to create MD5 codes of all files in your Freelancer folder and I could compare that list with my installation.

Maybe this way we can figure out where the problem is.

Ok, I removed the recaptcha so you can register.

My fresh installation has 17,960 files. It could be that something went missing on your PC.

I have just tried the registration on the website and it was working. Maybe it works if you try a different browser.

That you experience crashes after the cutscene is very strange. I dont think I have ever heard of such a problem before. Can you check but big the size of your Freelancer folder is and how many files are in there? Maybe we can narrow down the problem.

Try to run the installation and activation as administrator. It also would be best if Freelancer is not installed in c:\program files\

Well, we were assuming that you installed dx9 during the Freelancer installation. There is a small popup requesting to do so.
But you are right. We will add this to the instructions.

Pretty strange that it shows up as activated since FLMM stores information about active mods in the registry.

However, my suggestion at that point would be to delete or rename the FL folder first and then in FLMM use the restore backups option. It will tell you that it failed to restore backups (0 files restored...etc). Then close FLMM and put that FL Folder back where it originally was (or reinstall FL).

Now when you launch FLMM again the mod should display as deactivated. Before you activate it check in the FLMM options if the correct Freelancer folder is selected (just to be sure).
Dont worry if FLMM stops responding during the mod activation (thats normal). It keeps doing its job in background.

Well, that we dont allow new members to register is not correct. Registration is possible and grants access to pretty much everything on the website. However, it is not required since detailed installation instructions aswell as a very detailed FAQ (covering pretty much every possible error source) are available even without registration.

The mod itself is not broken, its actually has by far less bugs than the original game. The problem you describe sound more like an issue with access permissions on your PC. This is most likely due to tools which change user permissions on windows or set write protections to specific files or directories. Since I dont know what is installed on your PC or which settings your Windows has it is pretty hard to tell whats wrong. All I can say is that the Mod has been working perfectly for many thousands of other players.

What I can suggest at that point is to install a clean copy of Freelancer into "C:\Freelancer" instead of "c:\program files\..." because very often AV tools and firewalls restrict permissions in that folder. Then make sure the FLMM installs the mod into the correct folder (manually set the folder)... and dont install any FL patches that you might have found somewhere on the net. If the daily launcher updates of the mods still dont work you can try to rename the freelancer.exe to freelancer2.exe. Launch it... let it patch... done.

Yes, we keep updating this mod with new features regulary.
No, you can not use your singleplayer ship in multiplayer since that is only stored on your PC but not on the server (thats just the way it works).
The MP offers a bunch of features that you dont have in SP... like roleplay, bountyhunts or constructing new stations.

The black intro is due to specific windows settings
you can avoid it by running the game in window mode and then switching to fullscreen via alt+enter

Dunno about the mouse problem you described. Ive never heard that anyone had such a problem before.

Try changing the shader option to vanilla on the launcher.
There has been a Windows 10 update causing problems with other shader options (I assume that is the problem here).

Thats why we included different options including the vanilla
not every shader setting is supported by all hardware and I am not able to test it under different hardware.
That might change next month but until then your only option is to use vanilla.

You can try changing the shaders on the launcher options. But to be honest this sounds like some textures went missing during the installation.

The ships are not broken, their cockpits are just too small for the pilot mesh. For most ships we found a solution but not for all since it is more important to keep the balance of the ships (not to make them too big in general) and to keep the original design which is intentional since these are Starlancer ships that are supposed to look like that (details are explained via story).
Dunno what you mean with the weapon placement. We have a bunch of players which tested all ships and their hardpoints and already we already made corrections based on their input.

try lowering your settings on the options
some systems can be a bit more resource demanding
