Entropy : Zero - Uprising

Early access mod review may contain spoilers

A pretty fun mod, that I honestly enjoyed more than the original Entropy: Zero (although not more than EZ2).

I liked the multiple ending choices, and the overall depiction of the uprising in Freeman's absence.

Minor complaint about the stability, as the mod would sometimes crash here and there, but that's about it.

Solid 9/10 from me.

Entropy : Zero 2

Mod review

Entropy: Zero 2 is exactly the kind of sequel I was hoping for. We once again step into the boots of Bad Cop (or 3650), who has now been promoted to Combine Elite. His new mission being to capture Judith Mossman and capture the Borealis. On your way, you'll encounter a defective clone of yourself, that will be dogging you for the rest of the game, and a friendly, broken Portal turret called Wilson, whom you encounter in an abandoned Aperture Science facility. Game has multiple endings, and a pretty cool final boss battle.

Gameplay-wise I'd say it's definitely better than the original. There's new weapons to experience, and I especially like the Pulse Pistol, the first weapon you ever get. It has infinite ammo, deals reliable damage and can do a charged shot, great stuff. There's also new enemies, such as jetpack rebels and zombie vortigaunts, as well as some old favourites, such as the bullsquid and even the pit drone from Opposing Force. It certainly made things more interesting. But most importantly... NO STALKER ESCORT MISSIONS. And thank Odin for that.

Our protagonist, Bad Cop was given a more fleshed out personality, backstory and there are some genuinely funny moments between him and Wilson. It certainly made me care a lot more for both of them.

Overall, I liked the sequel a lot more than the original, and the original was already good. It gets a 9.2/10. It's a fantastic experience, and it still baffles me that it's free! Go play it, now! And remember to use those Xen grenades!

Half-Life : Echoes

Mod review

An excellent mod that adequately portrays just how grim things were in Black Mesa. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing more mods like this.

10/10 for damn sure.

Entropy : Zero

Mod review may contain spoilers

Entropy: Zero is proof that there's still more to be expected from the Half-Life series, and the Source Engine in general. The game/mod puts the player in the eyes of a metrocop in City 10, where you'll be fighting your way through rebels, zombies, headcrabs and vorts. The game also has an amazing soundtrack, that definitely fits the Half-Life theme. Difficulty has been modified, making all enemies a bit tougher, though at the same time makes them really easy to kill for the most part with a few headshots. Guns have been changed; the MP7 is no longer complete and utter garbage, doing reliable damage, and having semi-decent accuracy when fired in short controlled bursts. The pulse rifle is basically a light machine gun, with a greatly increased clip size. All in all, Entropy: Zero is a great example of a well-made mod.

Though unfortunately, I have seen some issues with it that I will discuss:

There are a few glitches in some bits. For example, the bit where you protect a stalker while he lights the way and unlocks doors for you... sometimes he just dies randomly. There are no zombies around to attack it, and I'd already killed the barnacles upfront so he wouldn't walk into them. And then if there are zombies, they kill him in one hit, which is kinda harsh, considering fast zombies can just leap at him from across the corridor. The final battle with the boss vortigaunt also bears a glitch. If you kill the vort with a pulse rifle energy ball, the vort disintegrates but the fight continues, so you're stuck and are forced to reload your save.

Other than that, there's a lot of "What the heck am I supposed to do?" moments, the worst one being underground with the infinite supply of fast zombies and headcrabs. Makes it kinda hard to think straight when you're constantly being attacked.

8.5/10. Despite its issues, the mod definitely deserves a go. Great job, Breadman.
