The word 'mod' implies that it is a modification of something else, but not completely different, i.e. it still uses the original something(in this case HL2). HL2 requires Steam. Therefore, yes, this very obviously requires Steam.

That's awesome, the camera not being movable was the biggest problem with the old version. I kept falling off because it would swing to odd angles. Definitely going to install when it goes out on Steam.

It's called Portal: Combat. Of course it's not going to be Portal style in that there're other weapons than physics, but otherwise this is completely Portal style.

Thanks, I must not have gone up to the right place on the fence after getting the key. Something else I noticed was that if you noclip into the space behind the huge gate at the end(far right corner as you enter the last area) it opens. Does this mean anything?

Awesome news! It is working for me again now(remember me? The guy with only the Orange Box version of HL2?). When thinking what could have happened, I seem to have skipped over a small but important detail: we replaced our monitor with a widescreen one. Apparently, it had just been refusing to show me the error that it was missing the widescreen main menu background. Copy/paste/renaming the regular main menu background fixed this and I was able to finish the game(sort of)! I couldn't figure out how to do the very end nonviolently. Or violently. I know I need to get to the hatch in the fencing, but how?

It's still low populated, but no weapon limits!

Hrm. I wonder why it worked that once, then. It's not anything to do with just being installed, because reinstalling it did nothing. It had nothing to do with running Ep 2 first, either, although I wasn't expecting anything from that. It also has nothing to do with my antivirus, since I switched that off. Hopefully I'll find something, because something here must be letting it work through the OB version.

What exactly is the problem with this and the OB version of HL2? Obviously, it's not that it can't run it, unless HL2 Ep 2 also doesn't run on the OB source engine.

What I did when running it was I had played the fake HL2 Ep3 just before launching this, so maybe that's why it worked. I don't know if this will work again, but launching it without having done that definitely doesn't work.

Hey, I played this once, and it was really good, but then the next day when I tried to start it up it pretends it's starting up and then does nothing. Like, Steam will show the loading rectangle, and then nothing happens after it disappears. Is this a known problem for you, or should I just try reinstalling it?

I kind of took it as a "Did you know..." rather than pointing out something was wrong.

First, you must go to where you downloaded it to and then use that to install the game. Then, Steam must be restarted(or just started, if it wasn't running when you installed Portal Prelude), and then it will be in the games list of Steam.

I'm seeing some pretty hard areas, but there is one area that just has me stumped. It's near the start, before you get any weapons, the one with all the fences and turrets. I just can't see how to get through there without a weapon(not counting the hacksaw, you can't shoot barrels with that). Also, right before it, you give the player ammo for the pistol they don't yet have. I've noclipped all over the place and can't figure it out.

Come on, you're just as bad as those people who hate HL2 because Zero Punctuation called out its nonexistent repetition. I followed the mod from the start, and the only time the creator could have been called anything bad would be when someone sent in a particularly vehement complaint that was obviously founded on the basis of "I'm stupid and I can't play this mod, because I didn't finish Portal either."

I'll give you your opinions that the levels were a little hard, because obviously some people had a little trouble, but get your facts straight before you start insulting the creator.

I voted for P:P, but The Ball is making me wish I owned UT3. It reminds me a little of the last chapter of HL2 combined with puzzles.
