Good review and relation of Pwned and ModdB! I also feel that the site needs a different approach, in order to appeal to it's mixed user base. People are so different here, yet neither the groups nor the forums create enough incentive to communicate. There are hardly any new topics, which stay in the discussion for long enough to become interesting and informative.
What helps me most of all on Moddb is browsing through active users and finding out about their interest and skills. I believe there could be more done in this direction and modding could become a little more personal as a consequence. Right now you will find many people don't submit much info on themselves and aren't eager to share information, either.
I like ModdB a lot, but even in the prior version it seemed more lifely and the forums were still thriving. I don't even think we have less forum posts now, it's just the quality is often poor and I see less contributions by the more interesting mods and indie games (what about Dreamscape, Talon 1-5 and Infinity - where have their updates gone?). So the truly inspiring stuff is missing sometimes - and too often.
