Just another dood on ModDB :D.
The demo is same as the full game I think, only you are capped at level 7.
So far I'm liking clip 2, got anything else in that direction?
What's the handshake, I must have it! Great video, was very entertaining! Let me know when you guys are close to release and we'll get a preview going for you. :D
Great teaser! Your media releases never disappoint.
I will be talking about RTS & RPG mods in the MOTY's in this week's modcast. Be sure to tune in for an explanation.
We actually looked took all those suggestions into account. One thing you'll have to remember is that we factor only media releases from 2008 into our decisions. So while the outcome might be different with the recent media pouring out from some of these mods - they can rest assured that next year will probably see a ton of crysis and ut3 nominations.
Which unreleased mods for UT3 caught your eye?
Place your bets?
Hang in there, champ :D
Sounds like you need to go play BF2 again just to remind yourself how different it is.
What you are experiencing is the phenomenon known as 'internet time'.
At least your mod has lots of talking!
Ah ok, well Mike mentioned it being a collaborative process but didn't really explain the extent of it. As for the darkness, I did make sure that I was playing full screen (windowed tends to make things darker since you can't control gamma) and went over all my display settings to make sure nothing was out of whack.
The whole point of my feedback was just to state that making the levels more accessible (to newbies) is probably the most direct way to gain traction with newcomers. There's nothing wrong with maintaining a niche community, but it seems you guys are shooting for more than that. In order to bolster playercounts in the long term, there will have to be some concessions made with regards to the complexity of gameplay. It's a fine line and I'll be watching to see how Dystopia deals with it in the future.
Just my two cents.
Yeah, we failed to mention it was the internal supporter-only beta 1.2 that we played prior to its steamworks launch.
Hey Fiasco, thanks for the feedback. I agree wholeheartedly with your opinions on the comments and criticisms on the show. On a personal level, I strive to be as constructive and knowledgeable as possible about the things we talk about on the show (maybe it's why I always have so much to say :P).
The show is a mix of personalities and its partly the random discussion that contributes to a lot of the entertainment. I still do cringe though when there's a ton of misinformation that could have been easily avoided with a few minutes research before recording (Episode 10-I wasn't there :P). In my eyes, it devalues the content-what's the point if the information you're giving out is nothing more than vague (or false) approximations?
In the end, it just comes down to peoples' ability to articulate their gameplay experiences accurately and employing the vocabulary to do so. We're still shuffling people around and still looking for a reliable 3rd and possibly 4th chair. Thanks for the comments, people like you are the reason I come onto the show. I wonder if anyone else feels the same way?
Lazy editing by Dave; damn you Dave! *shakes fist*
Quite entertaining. Loved the mod creator tool, where can I download it? :P
Great job Wills, thanks for sharing.
I love how you didn't just call it Indiana Jones: Source like so many others would have gone and done. The difference between being inspired by source material and recreating it is lost on the majority. Good luck guys!
Tatsuro won't like mod, it has katanas :P
Hot sex! I'll be contacting you guys soon. :D
No he won't, LIES!!
Try directly on Steam; from the STORE tab home click game mods under the free stuff section on the left hand side. All of the Steamworks-enabled mods should be listed on there. Click on Dystopia and then the green INSTALL button underneath the image and description. Good luck!
If the Zelda maps played better, they would have won.
I disagree Dave, the music makes the loading time in PR so much more bearable. The fact that they fill it with something that gets you riled for the upcoming battle is a plus. It's as much a part of the design as an in-game menu or HUD display. If it WASN'T there you would instantly feel something would be off. Just because something is subtle doesn't mean it isn't being maximized - it's all the little touches that bring a game/mod together :D
Yeah, it's been a while since we had a new poll.... poor poll box was feeling neglected.
Not bitterness, just trying to educate others (and the rest of the team) in terms of the reality of the scope you are shooting for in contrast to the manpower and experience you have available to you. Obligation isn't owed to the public but as a team leader, I think you DO owe it to the rest of your team to plan accordingly and lock down some sort of attainable goal. 3D grass blades seem frivolous in light other features which make a game fun to play, don't you think?
I'd rather have competent AI than 3d blades of grass... No offense but it's that kind of talk that doesn't make me hold out any hope for projects like these. It's been 2 years now and you're just scratching the surface of gathering the assets together, nevermind packaging them into some form of coherent gameplay. Now you're talking about individual 3D blades of grass, please be realistic with yourselves.
I think he's referring to the updates you post around MOTY but and the scarcity of activity for the rest of the year. This game/mod/whatever very much seems to be something that you're organizing more for the sake of winning stuff than anything else.
Pew-pew! Sorry, false alarm.
yeah there is actually an error with the smoothing groups on the face but shhh don't tell anyone :)
Also that texture needs to be fixed for the chain mail. But just didn't have enough time before the announcement!
You can help support us when the game releases in August ;)
Thank you for saying so! :D
you maniac! Now go play the mods :P
Take your childishness elsewhere - banned.
I'd have to agree with treat. The slow pans might have been justified if their was some custom assets or defining architecture involved rather than a reconfiguration of stock Portal stuffs. I'm all for vague teasers, but there's no sense of mystery and/or story of what's to come. The average gamer would just think this is some Portal fan-movie.
Durian is also a fruit, I kept thinking that while putting this together...
Great interview! Don't see the concept art though...
The best = people willing to work with us to increase their exposure. Devs have to put in effort to make this work.
Indeed it is.
I thought the same thing, but if he's planning to release more episodes the story can developed along with them and retroactively inserted into previous chapters (like The Ball).
Great article, thanks for detailing the creation.
Playing the game is orgasmic for the eyes. I tried turning down the graphic intensity so I could follow the position of my ship better, but it wasn't the same. Also lol'd at the tagline "Games as art debate approaching".
Should have made a release post: Moddb.com
Please do more of these journal style entries. Really love how they show your thought process.
Need more info on what this mod does.... please edit the description.
Is there english subtitles?
Thanks for all the comments guys. I have to agree not completely happy with the font (its the 'official' ModDB one) but I'll play around with it some more for my next article.
Daystranger, not a big fan of the spread on that drop shadow myself - too distracting, I find.
What do you guys think of the new image layouts? Good or too much?
Haha. God damn that warped pinky, gets me every time.
Awesome article, very well formatted too! More and more it sounds like half the challenge of making a game is not over-extending yourself and working within your limits.
I dunno, I myself preferred the more cartoony look. All this fancy new lighting really diminishes the nostalgia hit and really changes the mood. I think the renderer would be great for projects developed with it in mind but personally I am looking forward to playing DTA with graphics more similar to the games that inspired it. There's no shame in not using the updated renderer - creativity in constraints!
Massive! Awesome work.
upload this as an image to your gallery.
This game rocks! I got hooked playing a preview copy until I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore.
*edit* I didn't even know it was mod-able haha. Indie are welcome on our site even if they aren't :D
Great video, love the end :P
Clem is at it again, great work!
Reading this just makes me want to get back into HW2 again - when I have time :P
I'm psyched for this too!
Awesome article that does MEC 2 justice, thanks to Bird_of_Prey for his hard work!
Why do you always get your stuff in the mail before me? Kangaroo mail is faster than I thought, I guess...
Awesome update, I've got my eye on you now :P
Damn, was looking forward to it guys. Make sure to do a fancy release post when it does go live and we'll make sure it gets into the header :D
So you reviewed the demo? LOL
Fixed - removed the botched links.
This one will melt too.
Nice, post a media update for the new mission!
6 weeks with 11 people, but yeah definitely.
images are borked
Thanks for posting this. While it will not make the front page, it will be archived to the profile so that people searching for the true story will be able to see it for themselves.
This is so whacky, I don't whether to love it or hate it :P It's certainly different.
Don't forget to make a new profile for it if you release it separately!
Whatchu talkin' bout Willis?
Holy crapola!! I can't keep up with all these great mod releases and game releases happening so close to each other! Great work guys.
Haha, that pic of the T-Rex on its back just cracks me up. Great work guys!
Shame about EIR, good to see you have many guys still willing to pick up the pieces though. Make sure to post all the essential stuff here on ModDB as we won't be going down anytime soon :P
While I don't agree with this review, it is here because the author took the time to compose his thoughts with more than a cursory regard for formatting, punctuation and grammar. I hope that all responses to this review follow the same example.
Well Sandbox 2 is a full editing suite, this will just be a level editor.
It has to do with you browser permissions and how it handles different file types.
Visit the official website ;)
Yeah, sorry guys, the ModDB flash video encoder can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it EXCEPT for the latest version of .wmv codecs.
Awesome review Myles! Take note, people this is how you do it. Very little editing from me. Expect to see this in the flash headline rotation soon.
Just so you know, there's 2 I's in original. I've corrected it in you mod title and downloads.
I can't wait... but Fileplanet.com, come on now ;) Great work guys!
HAHA, why not upload to ModDB?
Please embed linked thumbnails into your post next time if you want to make the front page.
Congrats, but you need to fix your links. Can we watch any of the matches?
this has already been uploaded!
Good stuff, but I've archived this as it seems to be older news and we generally don't allow two postings from the same mod on the front page.
Fill out this profile with some media!
Please make a profile for your mods.
no preview image = lazy
Great to hear, good to see some open collaboration between teams. Doesn't happen enough IMO.
These are only mods that are listed on ModDB. If you know of any other ones, tell the creators to list on ModDB or create a profile for them yourself. PM me and I'll add the mod to the list!
Let's try this again. :D
add this under MOD profiles not as a game. Thanks.
please post this as an addon to counter-strike
please post this as an addon.
Currently have Mr. Kadish - one of the guys behind Killing Floor - lined up for the show. Maybe afterwards we can get a couple servers going for just ModDB players :D
What am I looking at?
Ummm.... that's not me in Red Alert Idol.
Don't be shy about detailing exactly what you love/hate about them here in the comments. Suggestions are welcomed!
Please add this as a mod under Half-life.
Just want to send out an extra thanks to Diego for getting together with me for this feature! Expect more of these interviews in the future.
I just recently cut them all off :(
they work for me
Haha, YES you should :P
you already have a profile for this, stop making new ones or face bannage.
Sorry, this one is archived. You have to share the front page with others :D
Guys, please learn to embed thumbnails of the images linking to a larger gallery image. This is too messy to stick on the front page. If you fix it up, send me a PM and I'll re-authorize it.
Yup, I've played the preview build and that's what it looks like. Although the last scene is probably put together especially for the trailer, the rest can be achieved through gameplay.
This is the last time I'm going to archive this post. If you delete and repost it again, this mod will be deleted. Please compose better media releases if you wish to hit the front page.
Join it now and get notified of special events concerning HL2 mods! Steamcommunity.com
So then you must have not liked this episode :P
What mod is this supposed to be linked to?
I accomplished my objective then :)
Megaupload is very inconvenient for many users, why not upload to Mod DB and stream it so it's easy to access and gets many more views?
Awesome mod with many gametypes.
correction: Stardock published Sins of a Solar Empire and developed Galactic Civilizations II. Sins was developed by Ironclad. Just thought I'd get that in there before anyone else.
Damn, those pine trees look great! Just add rain and you'll make the perfect North American West Coast outdoors mod :P
Please post this as a mod not a game.
Excellent! Thanks for posting this.
Good work guys, not a Trekkie but the quality of this post is excellent!
Where do you see that?
Still working on an official schedule.
I would have preferred this as a review.
Great work! Props to Lit Fuse for taking machinima to the next level.
PR and marketing makes a huge impact no matter what the content of your project. A lot of teams underestimate this and learn the hard way. It's doubly important if you are developing a multi-player game/mod, you have to foster a community around your project to keep players active. There's no shame in being a hustler in addition to being a developer. If the content released in press updates is worthwhile and easy to digest, you'll reap the benefits.
It doesn't have to be a total conversion, just gameplay that explores a new direction from what the average gamer is used to.
This kind of stuff is what we wouldn't mind seeing more of on the site. If any of you guys come across any console mods out there, get them up on Mod DB and share the love!
do not upload torrents
"20 minutes... outside... pufferfish"
you guys should really link you images from your moddb profile so media releases get to the front page.
Top marks for presentation guys, looking good!
Great job guys, among the most consistent mods out there in terms of quality and releases. Good luck with MOTY!
Wow dood, amazing stuff...
haha, same here. I was one of those guys who left with a bad aftertaste for this mod. But all this press I'm seeing for it (they even got a video listed on gametrailers.com!) is gonna bring me back for a another go.
Are you implying ugly women can't mod?
This is a great idea, I'll be there!
This looks amazing!
Thanks for all the encouragement guys. We've made incredible progress over the last week... stay tuned for more updates...
just unzip it into your max payne 2 dir.
