I've been going around as a writer, but started getting drawn into Concept Art and 3D modeling. I'm currently finishing my studies as a 3D artist and will then be let loose on the world. Beware!
Hola! I don't really know what this is. Just my daily doodle, I guess. Took as long as the jungle one, but I feel I got a better grip on contrast and color temperature, this time. If I wanted to I could smooth the shades into eternity - but that's not the point of this exercise.
man, imagine if this was your full-time job. I bet you could crank out 6 a day
That would be fun. However, I really want to get my skills to a level where I can make ******* awesome matte paintings. What started out as a solution purely born out of need for a storyboard artist turns out to become more and more of a habit I deeply enjoy :)
Yes matte painting is awesome! Have you ever tried projection? I'm working on one currently, and they can be a lot of fun, if not a lot of work, but it's awesome to see works like this projected into 3D space.
I have no one to work with on a projection piece. I have a Dylan Cole tutorial about it, but haven't looked into it, yet. Thanks for the comment.
Most importantly about this paint is that it lacks correct perspective, which makes the eye wander a lot. If you know about a perspective lines Plugin for Photoshop, please reply. I could really use something quick and more accurate than drawing lines toward a point.
in that case, I would recommend doing basic shapes in sketchup for your structures and then print your view as a jpg. Then use it as a guide in photoshop and paint your custom/colored structures over it.
I don't like Sketchup. Brushes had no pressure sensitivity the last time I tried. I don't understand the point of it, to be honest. If I want to sketch nothing beats pen and paper.
I wouldn't recommend using a 3D program for perspective unless you know how to adjust the camera for realistic settings, because depending on the angle and how close you are, you can get skewed unrealistic results.
Really all I try to do is perspective by eye, and if I need to I draw a bunch of perspective lines into the distance. A program specific to do that for you I haven't heard of. Definitely give me a yell if ya find one!
