Welcome to my ModDB page, here you can basically find my blog and stuff I made. I'll upload some nice screenshots of my maps soon. Mapping is what I do, mainly for the Source engine (I want to learn other engines too). My main projects right now are The Wind (www.thewind.tv), wich is a machinima, and a school project involving me and my friend making a Half-Life 2 Singleplayer mod (ModDB profile will be created soonish).
This tool can convert to and from Hammer units, inches, feet, meters, decimeters and centimeters. Now you won't have to open up calc every time you need to make a conversion, instead you open up this trustworthy tool and make sure you get everything right. In version 1.1 I have added support for the metric system, this will probably be the final version but if you want to make it better I included the source files (it's written in Java). I hope you find my tool useful, all feedback is appreciated.

This can actually be very useful for those pesky recreational mapping situations.
Hum, precious good idea.
Thanks for adding the meters.
Erm... So if Gordon's height is at 72 units, that makes him 4.5 feet tall... Or I'm just not quite getting something... Will someone explain?
If you are in doubt, use the quick reference found here --> Developer.valvesoftware.com to make your own conversion.
I can even make it for you:
1 unit = 0.75 inches
0.75 * 72 = 54
54 inches = 4.5 feet
Gordon might seem small, but that's just how it is, maybe they made him smaller to give the player more freedom of movement. :-)
What's more interesting is the stuff on that page about model height - "[h]uman Character models for Source Engine currently use 1 foot = 12 units." while "[m]aps, architecture and prop models use a scale of 1 foot = 16 units."
In other words, 72/12 = 6 feet for the player model. Basically they made a model that was proportional to the six feet body, and shrunk it somewhat to fit the actual 4'6" height in the game world... Weirdest thing ever... I wonder why valve did this. I guess you're right, valve wanted the player to fit through small holes but did not want to admit that he is in fact a midget, so they made all the human models in game small as well as normally proportioned. Mind boggling.
I can only agree with you there.
Thanks for all the comments folks, if you like this tool I'd appreciate if you told your mapping friends about it. ;-D
