It's intersting to bring more advanced graphical effects to an older engine since it can actually run smoothly when the rest of the engine is so light.

You know you can delete these pictures and still be able to use them right? When you delete it it's only removed from your gallery but the picture itself won't be removed.

I'm having the same problem, I'm on Win7 64 bit and it says "Using MS SAPI 5.4 (third-party DLL)" in the phoneme editor, I have not installed the MS SAPI 5.1 previously.
I don't get & and ( in the log though, I get some kind of unidentifiable stuff that shows up like this in Notepad++: Media.moddb.com
I'm really excited about getting phoneme extraction to work on Windows 7 and would be more than happy to act as your test subject if you would need that to solve this problem.

How about an overhaul of the notification system?
* I want to be notified via e-mail when someone comments on content I have created. (currently not possible)
* I want to recieve an e-mail when I get a PM, but not when my content is approved. (currently not possible)
* I want to recieve a notification by e-mail when someone comments on my profile. (currently not possible)
* I might not want to recieve e-mails when someone comments on my content, but I might still want to be notified about that I have an unread comment when I visit the site. (currently not possible)
I think the current system is bad since I want to be able to connect more with the people commenting on my content and profile. I know that if I could get a notification via e-mail when someone comments, I would be more active on the site.
There would be more "useful" traffic. For example, I won't have to waste your bandwidth and my time by going through all my 13 tutorials and my ~10 pictures or whatever every week just to check if someone has commented.
I hope you consider doing something about this, it would mean a lot to many people I am sure.

That is correct.
Right, that is your opinion, mine is different. If you compare the final result of a light entity with the final result of a light_spot entity on a lamp for example you will see that the light_spot looks much better though.
Also, Valve uses light_spot for almost all their lights, but maybe they're doing it wrong.
Oh, and I've been mapping for the Source engine for over four years, so I know a bit about it.

You can't do that with brushes, that's the highest quality possible right there. With models they can achieve rounder shapes at that scale.

I can recommend WeGame for your recording needs: www.wegame.com , download the client, start the game and press the record button, no setup required, easy as cake. It's also recorded in low quality (if you want it to) so you won't have to fiddle with 4GB video files.

Pretty nice, I just have two complaints. There is no "standard height" for Half-Life 2, and you don't need lights to compile and run your map.

I'm starting to get more into modeling as well, it's great to have full freedom compared to the limitations you have when mapping. I'm using Blender by the way, it's great.
My balls already have some personality, but being able to customize my balls further would be awesome. :)

Oh yeah, now that I think about it, it kind of looks like osmething from Dark Souls. I do like the character designs in that game. I came up with this design on my own.

It's interesting to hear how you where thinking when creating the map. The colored blocks thing does work very well to lead the player without adding arrows or whatever, I understood right away what they where about when I played the map.

He's talking about baking ambient occlusion, that's not a real time effect. You can do that for example in Blender, what it does is render a static ambient occlusion map that you can overlay onto your normal texture to give it more depth.
Wolfire Games don't have exclusive rights to use a wolf in their name and logo.
I think it's a great idea! Almost any game in a modern setting can make an ad look natural, plus it will be beneficial for two game developers instead of being just some thing.
I would take that offer if I were making a game where it would fit.
The cover art is great! I think it would look even better if the tree just had a fully white background (not with those grey lines).

I can highly recommend using the DivX codec for encoding the video file, it's what I use and it delivers amazing quality at a really, really low file size.

So "analytical shapes" are basically boxes? That would explain why ragdoll collision meshes are almost always boxes, because they are faster to calculate with.

I used an npc_bullseye that was parented to the moving target and a ai_relationship to make the rebel shoot at it.

I don't like the beginning, but after a little while it sounds better. You should spend a while trying to find instruments that sound good as that is the biggest flaw in this as I see it, the instruments.

I felt that the part I had most problems with myself when learning this was how to actually place the nodes.
The AI works with the nodes like this:
1. Get a destination.
2. Find the closest node to self and destination.
3. Calculate path between destination and closest node.
4. Go the path.
* It avoids collision with dynamic (physics for example) objects by doing colission test in front of itself all the time, if an object is in the way it will try to go around it.

Next time you should play around with some lighting also to make it look better, and some quick textures would make it look better too.

Hm, in the Source engine you can run a command that "flattens" the rendering mode (so nothing is in perspective) and basically takes a bunch of pictures of the map from above.
Maybe something similar would be codeable for this?

Well, like you say fog behaves a little like water, so having fog in high places looks silly and isn't realistic. If you want to put fog on a certain height level in your map you could have long (maybe animated) fog stripes that could slowly flow back and forth. Just an idea.
IMO the fog doesn't look that good, you need to ask yourself if fog really should be a strategic element or just eye candy. You could put out bushes to hide in instead.
Crazy lighting yes, but it's.. Cool! If you can get the AO in there also it'll look awesome!

Hi, the current release estimate is Q2 2009, but this is probably going to change. If you want early access to the game you can preorder it from Wolfire.com , an alpha version of the game is released every week for all preorderers to try out.
You actually get access to the map editor and a leaked alpha of the game each week when you preorder, so if you wanna start modding you can start practicing now!

That looks badass. Hmm, isn't a normal gun almost a nail cannon? I mean the bullets are like nails but not as sharp and they are shot away, what makes this more of a nail cannon than a normal gun?

It's written in Java so I don't think I can make it into an exe. I packed it into a jar file though so you should just have to double click HUC.jar to launch it.

Why 1024x768? You should make one for each aspect ratio and they should be as big as possible. I don't even know anyone who has a 1024x768 monitor anymore.

I agree with Mutant1988, and the lighting shouldn't be too hard, I never tried for the Gold Source engine though, but for the Source engine it's very easy (just put a light_environment and then change its settings).

And if I where you I'd try to mess around with the textures to try to make it look like sand for example without taking the cartoon feel away, it looks a bit plain IMO, same with the platform floor.

I agree with you, RTS & FPS is fun, I also play Spring from time to time. HL is the awesomest franchise indeed, not since Starcraft though, I don't like Starcraft, I think I was introduced too late.

It's made to make it easier to convert stuff, so if you know the room is 20 feet long, you would write 20 in the field and then push the "feet" button on the left and the "units" button on the right and then you would get what 20 feet is in units that can be used in Hammer. Of course it can be used to convert from and to inches and feet if you want to.
