It looks good, but as others have already mentioned before, I too am worried that the small teams will make the gameplay become boring rather quick. There is only so much you can do with a 2on2 and I'm sure we've all experienced it in other multiplayer games, where some gamers are just more skilled than others and are able to take an entire team (let alone 2 people) out on their own.
In addition to that, I am also not sure that having just a 2 player team will really promote teamplay. Sure there seem to be some aspects like helping a buddy up.. but if you really wanted to promote teamplay you'd - for one - need more of a .. well team, really.
But in any case, I'm hoping my worries will be proven wrong when I play this mod in just over 15 days :D

I realised that this game reminds me of a very old game I used to play many, many years back. I think it was called Conqueror but I'm not sure. Was looking for screenshots for reference, but couldn't find any. In any case, you had a knight, with whom you could travel across the map (just like the overviewmap in M&B), you could go into towns, cities and castles and borrow money, go to the tavern, compete with tournaments - and last but not least, recruit soldiers/mercenaries to raid castles. And occasionally a dragon would come swooping from the mountains and set farms on fire.
But yeah.. I absolutely loved that game..and now there's M&B, which reminds me on so many levels..and looks fantastic too!
hmm, i beg to differ on the weapons. I think they are perfect the way they are. Of course you'd be attacking slower with a 2h weapon - and the bow just takes a bit of practice - just like in real life. At first I had trouble with the bow, but after a while, I was able to headshot several enemies on a raid - didn't expect the small towns to have so many inhabitants though hehe.
working on a mod project, but I finished two add-on projects for TFC (ahh..back in the day *drool*). So err.. I put two finished ones down.

I've recently read
A Farewell to Arms, by Ernest Hemingways.
It was a very captivating read, I started it and simply could not put it down. I don't want to give away too much of the book, but the main character (Frederic Henry)is a volunteer ambulance driver from the United States, who gets wounded on the Italian front during WW1 and is sent to a hospital in Milan. There is life is changing, as he meets a range of interesting characters and has to make some tough decisions.
As far as I'm aware it's a semi-autobiographical novel, which made the read even more interesting. Give it a shot, I promise you, you won't be disappointed!
well thank god for that (never thought I'd say that about a game I'm looking forward to playing). I really don't mind spending money on this game, as it truly is worth it.. but at the moment I just can't afford it.
nope, everything was modeled from scratch using stock images from various sources around the internet.
Which, just to clarify is known as the USC :) - It's a semi-automatic version of the UMP that could be owned by private citizens for sporting purposes.
*sniffles* I just played and finished my trial of M&B. Absolutely loved it. Was one of those, start it once, and can't stop playing it games. My only problem now, as a student with actively running costs, I can't afford to fork out for a vid game (as much as I'd want to, but food and bills are of higher priority :P). Soooo.. please wait with going 1.0 until at least after next month? :D
I like the warm feeling of this shot.. however, I find that with a lot of the other screens of charsons town, the buildings look too "new" - like they have never been used before. I'm not sure which look you guys are aiming for, but at the moment its looking a bit like plastic.
But keep up the good work. I've been looking forward to parallel from the day it was announced!
ah brilliant news.. i love it when games (or mods for that matter) are designed with a modding community in mind. I could most definitely see myself working with this in the future!
very nice work, although I think the jump and jab action of the hero with the spear could possibly be improved, as the motion doesn't look that practical to attack from hehe. But then again, this video is from 2006 and hence things may have already been changed. But in any case.. really nice work you've done so far and I'm looking forward to playing it.

I have to say, reading the comments of ****, which were just oozing with "intelligence", really had a comedy value. Apart from the fact that he at least seems to know how to label himself, I thought his pathetic outburst was, no - it actually still is - laughable. Complaining about other "fanboys" giving this mod a bad rap is fair enough...but keep it away from the mod itself if you are going to be, well, a **** about it, as that kind of behavior is the last thing we need at modDB.
Go create a blog or something and have a whine there. At least then people would have to actively look for your crap, rather than you forcing it upon them. Now go ahead and sift through my comment. Look for errors. I'm sure there are some.
now, I have to admit..I only just came across this game and it looks amazing! I'm really looking forward to playing 0 A.D. - however I had a question: Will the game follow a historical path exactly, or will there be something like a campaign world map, where the player gets to decide which area to move into next. I guess kind of like that rise of nations game.
In any case, I'm quite looking forward to this! Keep up the great work!

this definitely already looks better than hud 2. The grey gargoyles set a nice contrast from the health and mana globes.

fair enough, in regards to their mod blog. But I still think that their community management is lacking dramatically, to say the least. It has been over 4 months since their last publicised community update. 4 months since we were told how things are looking; 4 months since we were told what the future for BMS looks like; 4 months since we last had a sign of life from the team. And I don't count updates on their website or dev-blogs or forum posts. To me, that is all internal..if they really did care about how to go about keeping their community on their toes, with out actually ignoring them, they need to keep us updated here. Otherwise, what is the point of them having a modDB profile in the first place?
Don't get me wrong, I have tremendous respect for the mod team, and I appreciate all the work that they are putting into the mod. I am leading a mod myself and I can vouch for the fact that things can be difficult, they will take time and you simply shouldn't rush them. However, at the same time, I am of the mind that their community on modDB needs to know whats happening. Otherwise, as AFK already pointed out, we will either begin to think that the mod is A: Dead, or B: Going Nowhere Fast. Neither choice is particularly great, but I have to say, out of the two, option B is the more damaging one.
I replied to your PM. Really like your work and I also forwarded it onto one of our main mappers, as I think combining both of your talents to work on the town Elder's Creek for The Forgotten would really come to amazing results. I think it's safe to say that things are looking quite good for your application :)
they def look sweet, but as letteralex said, they don't fit in smoothly. The scale is a little bit off. I think if they are made slightly smaller, it would have a greater effect.
hmm.. yeah, the copyright is obviously something to watch out for.. but the closer it can capture the feeling that the diablos portrayed, the better it will be.
already got them hehe. I was specifically impressed by paranoia's achievement of pushing goldsource to the limits.

Nice news post :) Am a big fan of penny arcade, so will def be looking forward to this. One prob that I could foresee though is the control and handling of the character. From the video it looked liked it was somewhat difficult to properly guide the character through doors. But considering this is just an alpha, it's already looking great! Keep it up :)

Thank you to all who applied for the role of concept artist. We've had a massive reaction from the community and received far more applications than we had initially anticipated. It has taken us a bit of time to work through all of them, but in the end we did look at each individual applicant in detail.
Those of you who have been short-listed received an email with further instructions for the remaining application process. Unfortunately, not everyone could go through to the next stage and have had to turn a lot of you down. Its always difficult to tell someone they weren't successful, however these things need to be done.
We do, however, wish everyone who didn't make the cut all the best for their future modding and indie careers and hope that we will see them around the community.

I found that modding and being creative with your concepts, regardless of the engine you're using, always requires you to question your ideas. Is it feasible? Is it fun? Will it add to the environment, or will it annoy the players? Having ideas is great, turning those ideas into something playable is even better - but finding out that your great idea somewhat ruined the experience is a real motivation killer.
I hope you understand where I'm coming from. I think its brilliant that you're modding, and not just that, but that you're modding on gold source while most of today's developers would rather go for next-gen engines. I'd just hate to see so much enthusiasm, which you have already shown, go to waste because of simple mistakes. Keep up the work and good luck!
hey tnk, just thought I should give you some constructive criticism. First of all, its good to see so much enthusiasm from young Developers such as yourself. I've been involved in the modding scene since 1996 (the good old days hehe) and I have to say I am truly impressed with your drive. It's definitely refreshing!
However, I would really encourage you not to use imageshack as your media host for mod related eyecandy, apart from taking ages to load, it really isn't the most user friendly environment (ie. too much traffic and your work gets disabled). I can understand if you might not want to display your WIP screenshots on your mod profile's image bank, but at least upload them to your user profile and link them from there. It will run much smoother, not to mention cause less hassle.
I also noticed a few spelling mistakes on your work. This isn't really a big issue - especially since english isn't your first language (nor is it mine) - but it does question a developer's credibility.
Your character and feature ideas are definitely on the right track, however, with out wanting to come across like a hard ***, I have the impression you are trying too hard in some respects. For example, using manual over automatic gear changes when driving is great (and personally I think a lot more fun, having driven both), but is it something that would actually add to your mod's atmosphere? If you find that it most definitely will add to it, you should go for it - but then ask yourself if you can simplify it to a point where you have the functionality of manual driving without causing players to get stressed out.
I also don't think that they would force developers to charge for the custom content. After all, in their presentation on the new Battle.net they did say that although they make it possible to charge, they keep out of it and leave it up to the developers. I'd imagine Blizzard might take a share of the profits, as the custom content is developed with their tools and their engine, but I really don't think they'll force a charge.
And them stopping people from creating custom content is highly unlikely, so again..a fine (in my opinion) is out of the question :)

That will not be the case, as you (as the author) have complete control over whether you wish to charge for the game or not. The only circumstance under which Blizzard would force a charge, would be if they didn't approve of the project and the charge would be in the form of a fine unless you stop development, but seeing as they are looking to promote their up-and-coming modding scene, that is very unlikely. So yeah, the final decision whether to charge for the mod will ultimately lie with you. :)

I can't say that i have heard about this before, but it definitely sounds interesting. I'm a big fan of social experiments.
You should do a review on that warhammer 40k tower defense mod once. I thought that had some of the best gameplay in wc3 mods. So much strategy potential, different roles for players, teamwork emphasis and so much more.

well, in relation to the other picture of this media release.. the models look all the same size.
looks good.. will watch..however, the nailgun and holding wood to barricade has been done before in a zombie mod for hl1.
