I'm sure that since you're friend is the author of the map, assuming it will be premium content, he will have full rights to give it away for free to who ever he pleases.
might be copyright issue, and they decided to call it peeJ :D
I'd have to say neotokyo for this one. In terms of multiplayer, I haven't played anything (non-retail) this good for a while!
However, as much as I love the moty's and follow them every year, I find there should be more emphasis on the players' choice, rather than the editors. It is the players after all that make up the majority of the community.
In any case, looking forward to the result!
congratulations to the winners! also a very nice interview and loving the audio!
agreed. completely unnecessary and uncalled for. this is not the place for kindergarten conflict.
Nah, leave them topless, or if anything, just put a very shredded top on. It looks far more terrifying when you see a mutilated and decrepit human body running at you in-game, so the more flesh the better. The horde zombies from L4D looked cool.. but weren't anything close to being "scary". This female (and the male) zombie are a completely different story. They look great and they look horrifying at the same time.
Great work, hannah!
now does that mean Raindrop is better or equal to valve? :D
Fair point, however it usually still is a third party conducting the interviews and the film or video game company uses that footage for promotion.
Although I think its good you're trying to show your appreciation, any project that attempts to do this by interviewing their own members immediately is going to lose credibility. Worst case scenario would be the community disregarding the project as a joke, as they will think you have nothing else to actually promote yourself with.
Don't be offended by this, instead see it as constructive criticism. If you want to show your appreciation to your members, while promoting your project (because, essentially.. that is what is happening) try contacting some of the modDB staff with an interview request, or if that doesn't work you can always try getting a hold of other related communities to see if they are up for an interview. That way you don't lose your credibility, you don't alienate your community, you get to promote your work AND you can show appreciation to your members.
I think the length is ideal.. there is so much ground to cover within the
HL universe and related games, that if it is any shorter, you wouldn't have a chance to cover it.
thanks but we're already working on a new project called C.O.D.E., we can't really reveal more at the moment as we are looking to keep things under lock and key. Just know we are working on it :)
fantastic looking mod.. haven't really given this too much attention, but I think I will definitely cram out my old cnc3 copy to give this little gem a whirl.
ah yeah, the good old days of absolute destruction :D
very nice work. From the environmental style it almost looks like it could be from World of Warcraft. Although as TKAzA said, some movement issues were there. None the less, a fun map, with a fantastic style. Keep up the good work :) 9/10
ah I wish I would have seen this before I gave my copy of civ 4 away :(
Which, just to clarify is known as the USC :) - It's a semi-automatic version of the UMP that could be owned by private citizens for sporting purposes.
very nice! I think this is perfect! In fact, I would even go as far as saying it's better than the diablo original :) Very nice work guys
they def look sweet, but as letteralex said, they don't fit in smoothly. The scale is a little bit off. I think if they are made slightly smaller, it would have a greater effect.
hmm.. yeah, the copyright is obviously something to watch out for.. but the closer it can capture the feeling that the diablos portrayed, the better it will be.
looking very nice indeed! Keep up the great work, my new favorite namesake mod :D I just installed hl1 goldsource again, so I can make use of some of the great looking new mods for hl1 goldsource which are spreading like wildfire it seems.
very nice work indeed. I love the detail you put into the dog animations. Doesn't look rigid at all..but rather very smooth and natural. Keep up the great work!
If you are interested, we are currently looking for a character modeler and generally an animator for our 3d art. Its a Half Life 2 horror survival modification called The Forgotten ( Moddb.com ). We would be very happy to have you working with us, as I think you would really be a great addition to the team. If you want more behind-the-scenes information on the mod or generally have some questions, just drop me a PM or email me at email@example.com.
Kind Regards, and I hope I'll hear from you soon :)
hey otreum, just wanted to let you know that the tracks all work again now. Not sure if you've already listened to them or not, but if you haven't, pop on over to the profile Moddb.com
Thanks for showing your interest in our mod! :)
How come all the tracks are static all of a sudden? Sorry for that guys - I'll let the techies know, as resubmitting apparently doesn't do the trick.
as long as its not a case of having a text based "city" or a static city, I'm all good. I don't really mind if its pre-determined building locations for the city..although it would ofcourse be cooler if it was up to us players to customise the look of the cities on the different planets...but I don't want to be asking for too much :P
it does look an awefull lot like cs:s's dust maps.. but then again.. this is also a dust based map, so I wouldn't go as far as saying it was stolen. For all i know, its a good looking map. Keep up the good work :)
got it all fixxed again. Let's hope this won't happen again!
Glad you like it! We're going to try and get some model renders ready for the next media release...so make sure you stick around :)
Thank you, things are looking good already :) just make sure you watch out for blackout studios in the near future!
We'll be back in the form of a new mod! If you track blackout studios you will find out about it first. And we also still have all the files for TF, so you never know, it just might rise from the ashes at some point :)
sadly that is the case. but as mentioned in the article, we have learnt from our mistakes and already now, in the new mod project, are taking actions to make sure they don't happen again.
Thanks for the auth. I appreciate it!
good stuff. Casbah was my favorite map on tfc :)
still can't seem to install it. says it can't find the cnc3 directory when i double click the installer :*(
congrats to mount and blade. yay :D
can you release a version of the installer where I manually have to show the location of C&C3? It can't seem to locate it on its own and just bombs out. I already tried reinstalling c&c3 again, and also put the installer in the same directory, it still can't locate it.
if you can't release a version where we manually can locate the directory.. can you maybe help out otherwise? Is anybody else having these probs?
looks good so far. keep it up.
love the merchandise :) I hope ppl will buy it, as it's a great way to support the development teams' efforts. After all, working all day and all night on a free game (especially one of this calibre) isn't the easiest thing to do.
looks good :) keep up the nice work.
is savage 2 really free now?
another tough one. my personal favourite would have to be mount & blade, simply because I loved the feel of the game and it reminded me of my favorite childhood game - Conqueror AD 1086.
However, realistically speaking, I can see this award going to savage 2. The amount of work that was put into the top notch graphics, fantastic gameplay quality, the fast paced action and essentially the originality of the game make this a very strong contender.
None the less we shouldn't lose sight of celestial impact, they have already bagged most innovative multiplayer. I somewhat doubt that warlord will win, simply because their game is very similar to their mod and that sadly didn't last too long.
The only game I am rather unfamiliar with is Live for Speed, hwoever from the info I got on it from their profile, it looks like a fun game. But will it be strong enough to compete?
hmm i wouldn't say that.. i mean, it is the editor's choice awards after all.. things might look different for the player's choice categories.
there should be podcast17 acolades :D
absolutely loving the podcasts. I've been inactive for a while (been hiding away to work on the design doc for a new HL2 mod project) and I've only just come across these podcasts fairly recently. Great work and keep up the fantastic work you are doing!
congrats guys. well done and you guys deserve it :)
congrats on the award. very well done and most defintily deserved. keep up the great work, and I'm looking forward to finding this title under my installed games tab :)
as expected, zeno clash won this award. Very well deserved and I'm looking forward to the release. Although I still stick with my reserves that I fear it might get repetitive quite soon, but that won't stop me from trying it anyway.
I wonder how close the call between zeno clash and infinity was, as I believe those two were the top contenders in this category.
ahhh still 5 hours to go.. lol i want to know the results now! I think the race is going to be between zeno and infinity!
no surprise, really. Just look at it.
Keep up the great work, guys. Grats for the win and the ..err.. teaser is wicked :D
I need to revise my statement from before.. Taking a closer look at zeno clash. I am no so sure about Infinity taking this award. They have shown too little in comparison and zeno clash looks amazingly polished, perfect art direction, fantastic gameplay feel and generally very professionally put together. The only critique I could provide is that it looks like it will be rather repetitive. But we shall see.
This is a tough one to call. Generally all indie games I have seen so far have put in tremendous efforts and aim for originality and a high standard in their own rights.
My personal favorite would be infinity for a number of reasons, their immense gameplay mechanics, the freedom they'll offer players, the graphics, the detail, etc. However, all of the other nominations have something that makes them stand out, so I think this could be a real head-to-head race. I'm looking forward to the results!
Congrats to Curse. Very well done and most definitely deserved!
couldn't have agreed more. Of course it'd be fantastic if everyone would win at the awards, let alone get nominated for them - but the fact of the matter is, that simply isn't possible. (Otherwise, what is the point in the awards anyway?) So it's just natural that not everyone is going to see their favorite mods get nominated. Fair enough, these are the editor choice awards, so the player based ones will probably be different, but none the less, fellow community members shouldn't get put down simply because they are dissappointed.
Well, I'm going to give my 2 1/2 cents again. My personal favourite to win this award is curse, simply because it looks amazing, has some unbelievable originality put into it, the art direction is fantastic and absolutely nothing about it says half life 2. So in respect to those factors, i'd definitely hand this award to Curse. It ticks all the right boxes for me.
However, both cry of fear and lightspire look very promising and will be tough contenders. The fact that cry of fear is a HL1 modification and doesn't look it the slightest is a big bonus on their part, while lightspire simply looks amazing in terms of art direction, gameplay and it finally is a big step away from modern warfare in terms of Crysis mods.
So, in any case. All mods nominated are nominated for a reason, because they are good at what they do. But I think when it comes down to it. It'll be Curse that takes the lead.
I really enjoyed the most recent podcast (11561). I thought it was fantastic that a plea for constructive criticism was brought forward to the community. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to the next pod :)
Glas you like it :) blizzard really seem to be pushing out the Boat for sc2. I'm really quite excited to see how this will impact the modding community in the longrun.
This is very true. And a very important point at that. I constantly meet people who are in it for the "short-time-success" without realising, that that is something that rarely ever happens. They read/hear something about people who came up with an incredible idea, which boosted them to the top and all of a sudden they feel they can do it, too. Gotta give them some credit for trying, but the fact of the matter is, that you need to invest a lot of time, energy, in most cases money and you need to have the willpower to stick it out. Otherwise everything that you have done will have been for nothing, and THAT really would be a shame.
Just look at the modding world, thousands of great mod ideas hit the scene on a regular basis and only a few months down the line, they call it quits because something didn't quite work out the way they had thought it would. I can only advise current and hopeful modders to take this article and video to heart.
once we've successfully finished that feature and perhaps found ways to simplify it, we might post a how-to thread for other modders to do it, too on blackout studios :)
amazing! Can I kidnap your concept artist?
good show as always. keep it up :)
you could ask the same question about all sorts of other mods. And games for that matter. Why play counter strike when you can play insurgency and vice versa. Why play GTA when you can play Driver?
looking good so far, although the office-divider are looking a bit..well out of place. You wouldn't usually see bare plywood pannels as dividers.. its more likely going to be something "carpeted". I don't know the name for it.. but it looks like carpet in a sense. Also, its usually not as tall as it is here.. Maybe lower it a little bit.
And finally, the name sign for Malcolm is relatively big in relation to the rest of the scene. Other than that, I don't see anything wrong with it :) Keep it up!
very nice work as always :)
sorted: Disconinjastudios.freeforums.org :)
Thank you for the nice comment about The Forgotten :) It's always a nice feeling, when one's mod gets appreciated by the community! We'll soon be releasing our new website and forums (will be launched with a big news and media release). So be sure to sign up there once it's ready, as we'll be releasing exclusive footage of the mod on the forums before it will go to the general public.
thank you! We really appreciate that :)
edited and resubmitted it just now. Should hopefully work again in a short while.
hmm.. i'll need to check into that, it worked earlier, I also just get static now. Thanks for pointing it out.
I want to move to that planet and be the first to colonise it :P
Will we actually be able to build anything on the planets? Say trading cities for example? Or mining stations for natural resources to build/upgrade ships/stations/etc?
I'm definitely looking forward to this.. Keep up the amazing work!
lol, no worries..it'll all be part of the story. Good thinking though :P
Thank you :) ..I gotta agree though.. i've fallen in love with that concept. Just wait till the remaining playable characters will be unveiled. Also, expect to see two additional weapon models soon. They'll offer the concept some heavy competition ;)
yeah this looks like a wicked map.
well, officially its a center-rotating drum for the jackhammer. But it would have messed up the style of the screen if it said "center-rotating drum and shells", so we decided to go for a shorter word, which although may not be 100% correct, still covers the essentials. And at the end of the day, we wouldn't play games for their use of correct words, we play them for what they are :)
But still, thanks for pointing that out.
thanks chunky :P
just clicked that client patch 1.0.8 to 1.0.9 link and got sent to that linkbucks page.. how does that work? From what I gathered, it looked like a fairly decent way of scraping some money together for support of the mod.
very nice work :) looking forward to this
The reason why I posted this, is because I am part of the ahl2mod administration. I think everyone should know about this hack and be warned. Even though there may be dozens of different communities for every game, we can't forget that we are still one big community who have some things in common. We love gaming and love modding!
yeah, apparently everything is referenced as forgotten elements - the media footage, the mod itself, etc. Hm..either way, looking good none the less.
if we would have rerendered it, we would have tried to hide something from the community, which isn't our style. If people know the model has been bought, fair enough. That doesn't change anything about the fact that it is a good model.
Progress is going well so far on the mod. As we will be doing bi-monthly media releases, expect a fairly big update for the beginning of the next month! :)
glad you like it :)
