Is this a custom story or full conversion? Its looking like full conversion but I just wanted to make sure.
...sarcasm? I mean, I AIMED for that sort of mood but as a first time modder I never expected to nail it.
Thanks for the advice :) its still early in development, I just put up these pics as a demonstration of what ive done so far. Lighting is definitely something im going to put more work into once more of the levels are built.
Hey man, first of all can I just say Amnesia Rain was an epic Custom Story, one of the best i've ever played. I could tell a lot of effort had gone into making it, definitely on the same par as the regular Dark Decent game, I hope you make more stories!
Now, I have a favor to ask. Would you mind if I used one of your sky boxes in my custom story? I was hoping to use the starry sky one as I want to have a dark forest with the moon shining through the trees and yours is perfect for that.
Let me know what you think.
In the house at the beginning. I think I somehow fell through the window near the ladder, no idea how. Basically after I had explored the attic I climbed back down the ladder, then when I jumped off I somehow ended up on the other side of the window.
Putting a black box behind the window will stop this happening, though I had another go and couldn't replicate it.
I was just playing your story and unfortunately I somehow managed to fall though the map, I jumped down a ladder, it was dark so im not sure how it happened. This wouldn't be a problem but unfortunately your save system autosaved at this point so I have no choice but to restart :(
Perhaps you could include some predetermined save points to go with the autosave? Like if you pick up a key or note make it autosave + add a checkpoint.
But apart from this I like the story so far, its an interesting idea not having music change when monsters come, though I think it would make it scarier if a more quiet, creepy music played, like this for example:
I will restart and continue where I left off.
Can I ask why you felt my custom story deserved a 1/10? Did you actually finish it? Did you experience any problems?
You are entitled to your opinion but a 1/10 feels like a real slap in the face considering all the work I put in to making this story, at the very least you could provide some constructive feedback on what you didnt like.
Have you done the cogs too? I know someone else who had a problem with the machine had a problem with his actual Amnesia TDD files which caused it to bug out. He had steam check them and it fixed it. It could be that, if not if you load your last save it will bring you out at the beginning of that section and hopefully it will work. Sorry for the inconvenience, I havent had anyone else report problems with it though so hopefully it was just a one off glitch for you.
Haha yes ideally you should stealth that part and sneak past :)
I just started playing this story, and it feels very well made and scary, but I just wanted to let you know of a few problems ive encountered so far (SPOILERS AHEAD):
First of all the music in the village doesn't loop and just cuts off after a bit, its a little jarring, but not a huge deal. However a major problem I encountered was getting stuck behind a wardrobe in the Inn (in the last room). I noticed there was a misplaced spider web, I walked towards it then got sucked through the back of the wardrobe. Very game breaking as the autosave made me start from there. Normally I would have had to restart the story as there are no other save points but as I know how to make custom stories I did a tiny edit in the custom story settings file and made it so the story starts on the Inn map, so i could continue. However for someone who doesnt have this knowledge this bug could be very frustrating.
Another minor issue was in one of the houses (the house with the safe) there is a wall that sucks objects into it, I threw a box at the wall and it got sucked in, I threw something else and it got sucked in and catapulted into the next room! Very weird, but again not really a major bug.
But apart from those things im having a good time, monster chases are super intense, the voice acting is very good and the crypt section is at the same standard as the prison in TDD. So very good job, hopefully the story will continue to impress.
Patch 1.02 is uploaded, just awaiting authorization.
Is he a troll or something? Because i've played quite a few CS and ive never ever considering rating any a 1, even the worse ones deserve points for the effort put into making them. It just feels like a slap in the face after all the work you've done. I understand not everyone will like your style (he mentions lack of jump scares..) and you have the right to rate at a lower score but a 1? Really?
If you have problems with the story like glitches and things let me know and i'll fix them, I actually have a patch coming out later today that will sort out some texture problems among a few other things.
Thanks man i'll check it out :)
Ok I just found the ceiling gap, cant believe I missed that :( I will fix it at some point, as its only minor im not going to roll out another patch just yet, in the future if more issues are detected i'll have a sweep through and release a full version 1.02 update.
And to the guy who rated 6/10 without actually finishing the story; why did you rate if you haven't finished? You stopped playing before you had even encountered a monster which is probably not even half way through, trust me you had much more to experience.
Because you didnt experience the whole story you didnt get the whole picture, so let me break it down for you: the first portion of the story is Michael dealing with the effects of taking the amnesia potion; having flashbacks + hallucinations, hence the random sounds and scares. The second half deals with the real dangers of the castle, why he chose to forget, and of course continued hallucinations.
I'm sorry you didnt continue to the end but at the same time im glad you chose to give it a go, I hope you change your mind and continue to the end at some point in the future :)
Ok thanks, i'll have to take a look and fix it up.
Im glad you liked 95% of it :)
I dont suppose you can remember which rooms had missing ceilings can you? Ive gone through those maps A LOT and dont recall seeing any. Im totally not good at voice work, perhaps if I can find volunteers I could do voice work for my next story (if I do one, remains to be seen).
And yes for my first CS I didnt want to do anything too out of the ordinary story wise, I just wanted to make a nice creepy story with atmosphere and scares :)
Wow i'm really surprised and glad that so far people are liking my story, thanks guy I really appreciate it! Now a quick question: did everyone think there was enough oil in the story + did anyone experience any lag/low fps?
Yes it is a regular custom story.
Ah I see, only one barrel is supposed to explode, for some reason the game must have decided to damage barrels and boxes around it to. But im glad it ran ok apart from that part.
Well the idea was the acid weakens the lock then you insert the needle into the keyhole and it breaks the locking mechanism. I guess I could have used a hammer but I already had the hammer and chipper earlier in the story so wanted to use something different.
Thank you guys :) Did it run ok for everyone? Did you experience any lag? I have received feedback from one guy who said he had lag in the cellar and storage areas, I dont know if he has a low spec machine or what but I never had lag on my PC or laptop, so any feedback regarding this would be appreciated.
Im glad you liked it :D Yeah I did put a few hidden things here and there for the dedicated to find ;) Regarding tinderboxes and oil, when you are working alone and know exactly where to go in the levels etc it is quite difficult to determine how much oil and things need adding. I put in quite a few tinderboxes just in case people missed some early on, and I think more oil may be needed? And yeah I agree there arent many puzzles but as it was my first story I didnt want to try anything too technical (the machine proved quite difficult though!) so decided to focus on scariness and atmosphere instead. Perhaps if I do another story I can work on better puzzles :)
Noted, I guess I need to make the lock static so it cant move out of place :)
Ive just uploaded it, it is currently awaiting authorization which hopefully wont take too long.
Very nice mod, but the performance is a atrocious! Most of the time I get a constant stuttery framerate. After browsing forums it seems the problem is the maps having way to many particle effects? All I know is I have played lots of custom stories very smoothly at 60fps, and im sure I would enjoy yours a lot more if I had the same experience. Not sure its something your willing to fix, but it would be greatly appreciated it you did :)
Finished playing this mod recently, and here are my thoughts (spoilers included).
First of all, it was a fun, VERY well made mod, level design in particular was top notch. However, it is not perfect. Story + voice acting was kind of mediocre, although not terrible. I encountered several glitches (e.g Agrippa monster got stuck and couldnt move) and generally none of the enemies felt very threatening, probably because they move so slowly. This removed much of the scare factor for me, the reason I crap my pants in vanilla amnesia + other mods is because im scared the monsters are gonna get me, here I didnt really think they would, hence my lack of fear.
Another thing I disliked was the section where you had to jump across those spinning plates, that was without a doubt one of the most irritating and tedious things ive ever had to do. Please consider putting them closer together, or just remove that section entirely.
My final criticism would be performance, I have a pretty decent PC (AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.9ghz, 8gb RAM, Radeon 5870) yet in many places in this mod I experienced my frame rate dropping, in vanilla amnesia + other mods I have smooth 60fps, I dont know what it was going down to but it sometimes felt very jerky and un-smooth.
Overall I award this mod 8/10, bump it to 8.5 if the story/voice acting was a little better, 9 if it ran smoother, and 10/10 if that tedious plate section was removed.
Never mind, turns out it was my GPU being overclocked too much :)
Just finished Chapter 2, and it was great! Genuinely scared me a lot. My only complaint; near the end there is a wardrobe I tried to hide in when the monster was coming but the doors kept swinging open and wouldn't stay shut, so I ended up dead, which kinda sucked :(
Apart from that I cant fault it, great mod. Is there an ETA on part 3?
Im experiencing a freeze up when playing Chapter 2. Im not very far into it, I walking into a large room and the camera auto looks up at the ceiling and some sort of red dots are coming down from it, then it just freezes and my screen goes white. Any idea whats up?
Are many people playing this? Dont want to download a 2gb file unless I know there will be regular people populating servers.
Are many people playing this mod now its released? Dont want to download a 2gb file unless I know its got a decent player base.
