Well, I like high detail. If you want a simple turret, it would be a block with two square "barrels". :P

Each quad light turret has 1,928 edges and 664 faces. So, there are 30 of them on this ship, 72 on the Lancer and 282 on the Sabre...it adds up to quite a big number pretty quickly.

I use Google SketchUp which is free, is easy to learn, but isn't really for making models for games.

Well, if you want to make models for games, you should start using Blender or 3Ds Max. Blender is free, 3Ds Max is not, but they are very powerful modelling tools. Both of these programs will take a while to learn, but it will be worth it. I'm not sure about any tutorial sites, sorry.

Description

Sentinel - Class Star Frigate Mark II, an overhaul of my second star fleet design. Designed for scout/anti-fighter/light attack roles, can be used for heavy attack if equipped with a ZPM. The weapons have been replaced with a new design, weapons repositioned for 360 degree coverage, "wings" redesigned, engines redesigned, detail added, fixes to structural problems and the fuselage widened.

Length: 304.5 metres
Height: 73.50 metres (overall), 70.10 metres (structural)
Width: 125.90 metres (overall), 124.40 metres (structural)

Weapons: 30 Quad Light Laser Cannon Turrets, 8 Light Asgard Plasma Beam Ball Turrets, 3 Triple Medium Turbolaser Turrets, 1 Forward Cutting Laser Turret and 60 Medium Multipurpose Ordnance Launchers.

Has six different views. This is an animated GIF, so the images will cycle through automatically when you click "View Original".
