Gaming, Modding and Computing Stuff.

This week I got time to install Sun xVM VirtualBox, it's virtualisation software and the best thing about it is that it's free. I was running Fedora 10, Ubuntu 9.04 and Linux Mint 6 (Yes, I use Linux) at the same time on my Windows XP machine.

The thing is that quad core CPUs are so much faster and make it so much easier to run multiple programs. I was encoding video, listening to music, running 3 virtual machines and on the Internet simultaneously and the computer wasn't lagging.

Going to download Windows 7 RC1 soon, the public release date for RC1 is the 5th of May. Going to download the 64-bit version this time. See how some 64-bit apps run on it. Should be good. There have been rumors that Microsoft is aiming for an October release of the final product...they should slow down a little and make sure everything works properly.

General Stuff.
As with the last blog, I shouldn't really be blogging now. Education is in the way. That swine flu thing was not helped by the media. Just a load of hype, the situation was blown out of proportion. In fact, the CDC and WHO say that the majority of people will recover from swine influenza without any medical treatment. However, I am not saying that we should throw caution to the wind, the public does not need the panic caused by the media. The "normal" human flu also kills many people each year, therefore I have to ask, why is there so little media coverage compared to the swine flu?

I've got a test on 5 chapters of Computer Systems tomorrow: binary, hex, logic, Boolean algebra...that sort of stuff. Did I mention that I hate maths? Ugh...The reason I choose this course over computer science was because of the reduced maths content...it doesn't seem to be very "reduced" to me.

Finally, I've got a question for you folks. I'm considering a significant purchase. A lens for my camera or a laptop. I really can't decide. They cost about the same, they both aren't critical items, so I just want some opinion from others: Lens or Laptop?

Still busy.

Good Gaming and Good Modding.

uhm.... as an owner of a laptop I would recommend.... the lens :P
the only thing nice about laptops is the "idea", not much. Unless you have one of those really compact laptops they aren't quite practical, they a bit too bulky to take everywhere and have ****** video cards and other hards, not to mention that it would probably come with vista, and a downgrade to xp is a sweaty one (I know what I'm talking about, beleive me), and keeping vista is even worse.
your choice :P
btw, I'm hitting the watch member, I'm starting to enjoy these blogs

I have to agree. Go with the lens. I mean, you've already got your gameing rig. So i guess you could get your laptop for classes and stuff and not use it for gameing. And mularac is right. Ive never downgraded from vista(cause i would never buy it) but keeping it is worse. Either way its your choice. Hope you enjoy what you buy.

Thanks for the responses. It's interesting how opinions differ. I asked my other friends at uni and they are telling me to get a laptop. In any case there is a slight chance I may be getting both...it's going to a lot if I get both.

If anyone is interested I'm getting a Nikon Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR lens, it's not cheap at all, but it will replace both my existing lenses. Photography is an expensive hobby.

Any one else with input?
