Clive Barker Undying. You can easily do it as a mod. Obviously when you compare it to most of the mods released.

Unreal Tournament 2k4. Repackaged 2k3.
Red Steel 2. A little different from Red Steel.
Star Wars: Republic Commando. A unique hud obviously makes it good enough to be its own game.
Stop saying that the Game is just a reskinned and resold L4D.
Elite Force. Just a reskinned "ID Tech 3" engine. Oh but it has different weapons. Well you stated in another post that it isn't that hard to program in a new weapon.
Call of Duty. Redone models, different textures, different menu, replaced weapons and a simple addition of an Objective List.
Your argument is only flawed because you seem to ignore how different L4D2 is from L4D. There is so much changed underneath that it can be measured just about the same as most games based on another engine.
Lets go on.
Return to castle Wolfentstein. Oh my, its not in the future. Its during WW2. Must be very different game.
Or maybe all the games that were released as Gold editions with new features that can't be found in a patch. Oh wait, that doesn't matter.
Well, judging by these complaints, Modders (even those that haven't modded a thing in there life) are superior to Developers.

There we go again, you think differences between engines are only Graphical. My comparisons are only as flawed as yours. This is my very point.
If that was the case then almost all games share majority of its features with the original game, with very few new features.

I don't know. Maybe the countless games that used the Quake 3 engine. Most of them were just games reskinned with new maps. Maybe they should just be mods released for free.

Wait, what? Source is a heavily modified Quake engine. The same modification in which L4D2 is doing to L4D. The difference? A heavy AI improvement. In your world, an improvement has to be graphically, else its not an update.
UT3 is pretty much just a very pretty UT2k4. Thats all. It actually could be a patch, but do they want to do it? No.

Not to mention Valve already stated that they will still support L4D even long after the L4D2 release.
Doesn't change the fact that the addition of more weapons will greatly unbalance the original campaigns, hense the reason for a sequel. Though I do agree $50 is absolutely too much.
Like the Unreal Engine. Its the same technology and still didn't age well. GoW and Mass Effect aside.
That aside, I still feel that besides Crysis, the Source engine produces the more realistic environments in gaming. Everything else abuses Shaders like its candy.

1 Year later. Just like Episode 2 of HL2 being one year of Episode 1.....not to mention, why the hell are you trusting Amazon? Steam never announced the price yet, not to mention a defined release date.

Not to mention, that amazon post is hard to believe. Honestly L4D2 is no different than Half-life 2 episodes. Its a completely new game with similiar gameplay. Its has an enhanced engine which is reprogrammed enough that updating the original game could potentially break the campaigns.
