You don't have to learn to mod anymore. You just have to learn how to make games, which in turn help you mod games. People want to create original content now, leading into making games they can sell and not mods that require the ownership of a game. Different kind of world now. I don't mind it.
Based on the amber glowing symbol of the Dharma logo, I would say you must solve the Aperture and/or Black Mesa first before you get an inkling of what the center one is.
Are those buildings casting shadows? That would mean you you made the static meshes characters? Or some other technique?
You mean Wolfenstein 3d?
Yes. No underwear, just a sock! ^_^
I love this baby, but you know, I feel that its more than possible for the rebirth to look like the Header Image more than it does now. I'd love to see that to be honest.
I didn't realize how hard it is to understand 'Responsibility and Regularity'. I don't know if its the sad generation of today or people don't understand 'responsibility' and 'work on a regular basis'....oh wait, ignore something you don't understand instead of asking questions.
Too bad that all the devs that ordered a Dev Kit have to wait it out through all the orders purchased by consumers....seriously if you want to get an Oculus Rift, wait for the Consumer edition.
I think it was more of a compliment than a criticism of your abilities. You were great before and now you're even better. :) I'll contest to your abilities.
Its the UE3 engine, not UT3. The UT3 engine is REALLY old. Not to mention, this is Killing Floor, which uses an older UE3 engine. UE3 is just a name without the version number.
I'll pass on any AVP content. Alien is a neglected world/series overwhelmed with AVP BS. Just give me a simple Aliens game, thats all we ask for.
You can't challenge yourself unless you know what you're doing. Else you'll be missing crucial little details that otherwise would of made you a better developer.
Saying 10,000 years seem a little extreme, yes, but you could of just said 'Couple of Millenia in the Future' and seem a bit more believable and less fourth grader learning numbers.
Why would you think that there would be an answer to the Black Mesa final release in a mod for Black Mesa?
That doesn't make any sense.
Its actually November 3rd. Three days after halloween. :P
You're so cool man. So rebellious. I'm glad you informed the world of your awesome dislike of facebook. Contributes perfectly to the article.
Not its not. Made before Amnesia. If anything, Amnesia/Penumbra were inspired by Call of Cthulhu: Darkest Corners of the Earth. Completely different plot too.
Where have you been, under a rock? Desura was a mod centric alternative to Steam. Now grown to involve games, mainly indie productions.
don't forget the fact that its not even in english, which would be greatly appreciated.
looks like an uber early version of Catacomb. :D
Good postcard for a game....not for tourism.
Glad to see this coming along nicely. I've been following the blog since the beginning. To my surprise, the project is on Moddb. :D
The new features are looking great. Can't wait for the next Alpha.
Oh cool!......what the hell is CUBE?
What does vertex weights have to do with low poly legs? I don't see any issues with them.
That only happens on certain settings.
Whats wrong with sucking *****?
Uh, no. Disturbed had written the song and there has been a classy cover of it later on.
I heard the astronauts suit is heavy as hell. Whats with that?
Skeletons aren't normally scary in games.
Seriously! But he is doing a great job. Typical of voice actors. :D
Is it just me, or was this mod using the "Cry"sis Engine? Oh wait, lets ignore that.
Because no one would ever make vehicles out of old military junk.
Oh hey look, a Abrams Tank with Wings!
Where the heck did you get that from? Its just a house on a hill with a pathway.
Compared to the second one, no. It was decent.
Well Build never looked like that back in the day. This is a modified engine.
He said Saturation, not desaturation.
I read that wrong and thought you said "it looks like it can fire a rocket from itself". haha!!!
Exactly! I guess you are right when it comes to word choice. hehe
It's like calling Shadow Complex 2d. Its far from it and 2d is nothing close to being right. 2d and 3d is defined by visual depth, not playable depth.
That I agree with. Though, even simple models can be used to make a beautiful composition. Again, I never said the content was horrible. I just said they are nothing special.
They are well done, but again. I can make a really beautiful crate....and yet its still just a crate. I usually don't compliment props. It's just me.
You mean side-scrolling. This has nothing to do with 2D.
Because obviously the devs are just as serious as me. Nice one. lol
There is a difference between content and composition. I'm complementing the composition over content.
Good models, but really nothing special. What really stands out is the environments. The level designers have a good idea for realism. The outdoor and city environments look absolutely spectacular.
Wow! Look at that progress. You improvements are so clear and drastic! /sarcasm
A lot more realistic then flying zombies.
I take it you have never seen a drunk person or a pot head. Yeah, Zombies feels realistic. Its like your saying zombies aren't realistic. They are far more plausible than most fictional beings.
Exactly. Inspiration for those hoping to tell a story instead of blood spltters on the wll.
Well you haven't played Research and Development or Radiator 1 & 2.
Anyways, this looks great. Keep the thoughtful mods coming!
Agreed. Its position denotes logic. Why would they position numbers like that? There is no point to it. Look at most HUDs in games. they all are logically placed.
Then I come to my opinion that this isn't that much of a HUD change. I would of hoped for something a little bit more substantial than a color and font change. It doesn't reckon a news post.
Mirrors edge used a different rendering system which isn't in the Unreal 3 Engine.
But I agree, U3E has such a distinctive look. One being that it doesn't render/cook ambient occlusion or the bouncing of light correctly. Which is hard to do in an engine. Crysis can do it in realtime, and the Source engine can do it by cooking it into the level.
I wouldn't complain. It was absolutely retarded to not port it to the PC anyways. Illegal? If it was, I wouldn't care.
Who said you are forced to work with someone on the other side of the world? Its called, interacting with people in the real world. Then again, its hard to do if you are socially inept.
Exactly! We use our own proprietary project management software and a bit of a thing called "REAL WORLD INTERACTION". lol
This doesn't make sense. Its an article, and I don't know what the hell it is for.
Does change the fact that Valve will always be valve. There work will always show through as quality. Hence the reason why you are spoiled, for the fact that if your not fully satisfied beyond capabilities, everyone will be ****.
Not to mention Valve already stated that they will still support L4D even long after the L4D2 release.
Uh, no they didn't.
Of course Episode 2 didn't cost $50. I bet L4D2 will probably cost $30-$20.
1 Year later. Just like Episode 2 of HL2 being one year of Episode 1.....not to mention, why the hell are you trusting Amazon? Steam never announced the price yet, not to mention a defined release date.
I really love the technical drawings you guys have for both Architecture and Vehicles. Great work.
Everything is shaping up very well!
Can't wait to see Midgar populated in Oblivion. That model(s) looks absolutely amazing!
The sacrifice for games. Thankfully it doesn't need to be high-poly to be extremely gorgeous.
Amazing design. Love the conceptual detail involved. Very Da Vinci-esque with a bit of Jules Verne mixed in. Can't wait to see this thing modeled and rigged.
When you encorporate lines in the texture, you get lines where there should be any. Like that pillar closest to us. It looks very awkward with the thick black line down two thirds from the left.
Lines are used to differentiate itself from background objects. When you see a line on itself, thats usually to differentiate itself from other features.
Unless I'm wrong and that black line is actually rendered. It just looks like an awkward place to render a line on an object.
Instead of applying the cell shading ink line to the texture, you should develop a shader similar to Prince of Persia 09. It would definitely compliment your style a lot more.
Thank you for that! I couldn't stop laughing!
I love that photoshop outer glow!
Also, we commonly use the size of the doors as reference to the size. The fact that these doors are giant (like they are supposed to be), we don't have good reference.
Awesome engine, but I had second thoughts on the engine name. haha
This looks like a lot of fun! Great work!
Doesn't change the fact that Shrek portrayed it better.
Some people don't visit the forums. With that said, he should of stated it in the article since it is the first announcement of this mod.
Plus its only trolling if its ill natured. I said what was wrong, and then complimented the rest.
Don't forget to start your sentence with a capital letter. My correction had more of a point. Yours just became trolling.
You spelled Teenager wrong twice. Its not tennager or teanager.
Still this looks interesting.
What? You don't see the abs on his arms? lol
Dude! This whole project rips sprites from other games.
Are you sure about that?
Good to hear your just as low as most idiots. Blaming Xbox users. How sad. Who said he's not a PC idiot? You could've went without saying that.
I agree with B though. The modeling job is just amazing. So much synergy between the texturing and model. It almost looks as good as the new Naruto game.
Amazing. Love the contrast in emotion, shapes, and tone.
Awesome review. Yet I'd have to disagree with your last statement. The map never crashed on me. I might be the case of playing the game through the non-steam version.
haha, so true. haha, but again, Project Reality won majority vote.
Thankfully, comment ratings shouldn't be that big of a deal, until it gets buried.
Wow, this is quite something. Nice concept evolution. Your final design decision worked out so well. The style you chose is absolutely synergistic. Every works with each other so well. I'm curious how you will pull off the environments.
So many stylistic mods that have a cartoony undertone usually fail in the department of the environments. Mainly because somethings are just too colorful and don't fit with each other.
You guys are the best. Keep this up. I've always wanted to play a multiplayer friendly Marathon with Quake+ graphics and gameplay. Marathon today just isn't playable over multiplayer anymore. We are just to spoiled with today's MP games.
Once again, a member of Valve Software speaks the truth.
You need a life.
That is because there is no upper body shifting. It feels like he is floating.
These aren't models. These are sprites.
It actually is possible. There is already a modified rendering system for Deus Ex which adds Direct X 9 features.
A little sad, but at least its getting public attention. Its looking great so far too.
Great work! Glad you decided to port it to SDL, which in itself is a great engine.
Will be playing this over Christmas day.
It gives it a look of a lineup. Keeps with the atmosphere of the game.
Amazing! This is so beautiful! It would be great if you could get the shading of the animals to look just like the render.
Why do you think fire in Quake was a 3d polygon instead of a sprite?
The arms are coming at the camera, making them look short. They are perfectly fine.
It'd be nice to see link on his horse riding across this beautiful scene.
Excellent Voice Acting! I would've felt alienated for voices in a Zelda game, but hell, this is perfect!
Have fun rigging it.
Holy awesome. Well done. My hats off to you! That will create some interesting gameplay action. :D
Just work on that 3rd Person system a little more.
ABOUT TIME! This is absolutely ingenious. :D
I'm going to check out the day to Nigh cycle. Working on something that requires it. Needed some reference.
Anyways, this will be fun to use on the company server.
EDIT: What currency are the prices in? lol, even if we solve our fuel crisis. Thee will always be a source that requires more. Electricity will disappear and power converters will burn out. How will our cars recharge? J/K Let alone, we will see an energy crisis once everyone leaves fuel and moves over to energy efficient vehicles.
I don't know, maybe its the fact that the universe should be more interesting than a one time only character that which had his own voice.....and is possibly the only character to successfully have a voice people like?
People keep saying yes and bringing up Duke Nukem, but I'm waiting for someone hasn't brought up any other game characters....THERE ARE other games than Duke, and I bet most people don't even play the game.
No voice FTW.
Same. There are only a few instances it will work and that is only in Duke Nukem. Every other time, I just wish the character would shut the f*** up.
No, just your idea of Touch sucks.
Thats REALLY nice. :D Don't dissappoint me! I want this project to live free!
May not be Left 4 Dead, but a good substitute until its released.
Even though Im the type of person to enjoy new universes over original game play, I do think in order to present a new universe, you will need solid game play mechanics to truly give the people the experience you have intended to create.
A person can create an amazing universe on painting and paper, but it takes so much more to present a universe in interactive/gaming form.
Sorry if i'm mumbling....its late and I really like this poll!
Anyone agree though?
This isn't apart of the Alien universe, it is only using Giger's conceptual design for ET's.
Interesting. Please provide moe details on what is improved. To be honest, its exactly the same. Saying that its an improvement is not enough to get anyone interested.
Try to provide information on the specifics and your goals. Right now, metallic improvements is something Id ignore and move on.
Let the greatest UT based mod continue! Good to see this has been confirmed. Been waiting for an announcement for some time now. :)
Buy it. I myself can recommend it. Best spent money ever! Great games.
They wear this kind of stuff in Iraq.
Excellent idea. There hasnt been any polished defence games outside of Flash. Can't wait to try this!
Not bad, I really like the animtion of the trex, but the movement still feels a little floaty and cartoony.
My gods! That is amazing! It looks so beautiful now that you go the normal maps working. So is this fully rigged and animated yet?
Looks great. My only problem lies within source. The camera feels to static to feel interesting. Nonetheless, awesome progress.
okay, never mind. Saw the whole video. Nicely done. Can't wait to see the rest of the progress.
This is great. So I take it that this is running on UE2? Can wait to see redone models and such!
Eeewww it doesn't look finished! Just playing. Its definitely progress. Remember, you have competition with that other mod. ;)
I beg to differ. Although Barney (the character in the seat) looks smaller than it needs to be.
What use would that be?
Why is it unreal?
Very innovative and different! Id love to see this completed for English. Definitely will check it out!
The reason why this is available is for the highend 7950 graphics card users for Nvidia that only use DX9, but are still powerful enough to run the game.
Is this like a new version of the mod?
Great mod. Really shows how far you can go with your creativity and imagination in mods. It doesnt always have to be bang bang kill kill or generic adventure. It can me a great wholesome compilation of great ideas. ^_^
This mod really gives me the need to dream of a 'the Office' version of this game. :)
Wow! The strider looks great! Especially the train map. Damn, this is shaping up really nice!
Brilliant work! Can't wait to see this **** in game! :D
Ok, we will not be using the name Cube: Source, and officially we will be having a full singleplayer/mp modification with its own story. So with that said, we won't be able to release the media we wanted in the coming days. Hopefully once we have the traps done, player death tech done, and hopefully some more up to date videos for the public to see.
Anyways, so you won't be too dissappointed, I did get around to uploading the original Cube movement test from the old version on video. So here, check it out.
I'm glad your not thinking of competition Cubedude, my intentions wasn't to compete but to announce. lol ;)
Very stylish, I really like it! :D
Your better off lowering the knob polies and shrinking the size of the strings.
You can view some renders of my rendision of the same guitar here, Scienceofhorror.com
Thats some mighty find work you got there! The earth orbit ships render on the left reminds me of Halo 2 where MC jumps out of the ship to land on a ship :P. Nice work! ^_^ :D
Looks great, but one problem. It lacks z depth. Look at the top of the rock walls, they are as if there was a clean cut through it. Still looks awesome though!
Ok, please don't leave me comments about Multiple Accounts. I have my reasons. If you want to know them please send me a message. Thank you.
Amazing Trex Model, can't wait to see it animated and living in game! :D
Are those map screens that where just released using HDR or Edited in PS?
Though your projects utilize a lot of Crysis assets right? I'm unsure how the SDK is handled, but I'd think maybe the standalone requires original assets. Well whatever happens, I look forward to it.
Of course! The model and texturing work is just gorgeous. Excellent stuff to be seen. Can't wait to see who's doing the animation. :D
You can block games from showing up.
Like DaveW, this is an extremely pointless mod. Do something original and new please.
Why did you call the Teaser 'Minimal'? Also why do you have a 'download' button on the site, and not a media/image gallery?
Blurs are best implemented through DX11, especially with the Bokeh Blur used in this image. Shouldn't be hard, but I knew right away this look nothing like Source Engine. Maybe UDK, right out of the box, but not Source.
Your version of slenderman looks similiar to the silence from Dr Who. :D Thats a good thing. :P
Hey its Sebastian Krist from Rise of the Triad!
Cool, but the design needs an overhaul. Looks bulky/cheap and not mechanical and authentic.
You use Kickstarter to sell your game, not the 'what you'll get when you donate'. That is secondary. Its REALLY bad form to upfront state what you get if you donate.
Its pretty much just a virtual desktop. Instead of shortcuts on your desktop, its a virtual environment in which your shortcuts are 3d arcade cabinents, posters, etc. Launching them will launch them however they usually launch outside of the program.
Is it so bad that I was turned on by all the talk of ruMpel, giant ****, and taking his load? is this an offer on ruMpels part? :P
Mac Steam says hi and that you're wrong. I'm not a mac person but just want to point you are absolutely wrong.
Thats like saying I'd buy a picture book with no story and burn real books because there are too many pages.
Sorry the DC version looks like a generic nerd and not Gordon.
Color me interested. I started a project exactly like this a long time ago over at Garry's Mod.....then it became nothing more than a design document in the Archives at work.
This looks so dreamy, better, polished, and you have a whole team! I only worked with myself. :(
Keep up the great work. Minecraft gave hope that survival can really be done, now from what I've seen here, we can finally get a definitive survival experience. :) Can't wait to see gameplay and screens.
I think it means mammary....
First thing I noticed about this project was the name. Psishock. Simliar to Bioshock or System Shock. Then I looked at your screenshots, very system shock-esque. Are you getting a lot of inspiration from these games or is it just an bad coincidence that they both share the same ideas?
I only say this because so many people are comparing it to Dead Space and Doom yet System Shock is the closest most obvious comparison.
Well a lot of the popularity for that video was because it made everyone Nostalgic for the old Titanic: Adventure out of Time game, which I believe would be awesome remade in Cryengine. Sure you're not doing that, but nonetheless the cryengine's beauty does everything perfectly. Especially that problem you had with the breakaway technique.
My thoughts is, what are you trying to prove? That you can make titanic in Mafia or that you are trying to make a definitive experience for the titanic? The former will be great but the limitations itself from that engine prevent the capabilities of the experience.
I'm not saying stop doing this, but I am saying your options are still open, without you being branded as a person of failure or a person who has given up.
Think about it. Does that make sense? Asking for a sequel for something that hasn't even been released yet is just a little greedy.
