Hi,

Your GTE translate mods have inspired me to translate other games. What is the process you go through with translating? I.e what order of languages did you go through to get the results you wanted?

It was different for each line, essentially I would use the Polynesian (Maori, Samoan, and Hawaiian) languages the most since GT messes them up the most. The African languages (not including Afrikaans, since that descended from the Dutch language anyway) are also pretty prone to getting butchered by GT. Latin is also pretty susceptible to jank, though it has actually improved a lot over the years. If one combination doesn't give any interesting/funny results, I'll try another. Tons of trial and error.

Aside from Portal 2 GTE (which has completed voice lines already), I'm not doing anymore Google Translated projects. Sorry.

Is there a chance that you will do the episodes next?

Nope. I do know of someone else who is working on Episode 1 GTE, though.

Hey uh, pardon for bothering, but can I ask do you still have the files of Smod: Opposing Force? Namely the Demo one, since I saw you have posted a comment back then.

quick question about modding stuff. how did you save your textures and have them load ingame consistently? im making a simple retexturing mod and using a guide i found on a forum i made a sample.wad and put in my textures, which were saved as bmps with 8 bit depth, and only a few of them worked, and some of them worked and stopped working when i put in more textures

Some of Half-Life's default textures are "baked" into the maps which causes them to remain unchanged - maybe that's your issue? There is a way to circumvent it though - make a copy of halflife.wad and rename it sample.wad. Then, in the "autoexec", add the line "r_wadtextures 1". Hope that helps. It's been a long time since I've done any goldsrc texture work, so I'm afraid I can't be much more help if that doesn't solve the issue.
