It seems similar to what Cylarne once told me before he posted that image in his image section. Since you are messing with walls though it wouldn't be a bad idea to get some shiny weapons on top of it later don't you think? Cylarne implied he would like to have something like this for every race so walls could be made in all 4 directions with just one wall building.
With orks using the top of a waagh banner with a cross like base structure would likely be fitting.
I am just conceptualizing based on i got from Cylarne on several ocasions, feel free to ignore me :P
Pretty much the base concept for all walls that Cylarne wants is that they are capable of being used to form walls in every direction possible without looking bad. He thought about cross like walls as a representation of walls intersections that could be used to make all sides of the walls. An alternative way to do walls that can be used for all sides would be box like wall sections (pretty much instead of a cross an entire rectangular base) but those would likely seem too bulky ingame could overlap significantly more so that should be the reason for the crossed ones.
For the imperium (all races related with it so IG, SM, SoB and IDH), orks and chaos imagining walls that fit this concept isn't that hard. I still don't know if giving weapons to all of them would be ok but in a conceptual phase it would be good to have some race specific weapons up there. Nothing too fancy but for IG something different from a weapon also comes to mind: Forgeworld.co.uk
After all Cylarne has an upgrade for turrets which extends their sight range, this could work similarly. I don't know though if there is any search light like that modeled besides Witch Hunters HQ.

I was thinking more like getting weapons with vertical offset and inserting the cross structure as a base. Not putting the weapons on the wall but the wall on the weapons :P
Flying works for SS but it isn't the best approach :P

My suggestion related with the waagh banner with a swapped base was already intended on providing walls with weapons and all animation/OE code and so on ready (except any additions that might be made related with the walls themselves). Similar things could be done with other races to get them the weapons they need. IG wall weapons should be fixed in terms of aims according to Cylarne (they were fixed by Cosmocrat sometime ago but so far i don't think they were publicly released) so it would be mostly a matter of getting the cross base to replace the base of the fixed wall version.
