Does anybody remember a game called Star Wars: X-wing? What about Tie fighter? You have to know about X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter... What about X-Wing Alliance? If you've never heard of any of these games then my advice to you would be to go to Ebay and AMAZON with your wallet ready... But WAIT! Don't go buy all of these old games because there is a better way!
The last game, X-Wing Alliance, boasts the best graphics, and perhaps the most fun gameplay and characters... However the graphics are starting to age really bad. You will undoubtedly get that feeling of star wars nostaligia when you play this game, but what about the others?
Thanks to the work of hundreds of people around the world, it is now possible to play EVERY mission from EVERY past star wars flight sim game released before X-Wing Alliance. This includes X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter. So if you really want the complete experience, all you need is a copy of X-Wing Alliance.
But What about the aging graphics? :( I have your answer: THE X-WING ALLIANCE UPGRADE PROJECT!!! Every ship, laser, missile, torpedo, space station, mine, sound effect, and even some of the basic gameplay elements, have been painstaikingly recreated in stunning HD. There is just one little problem... only 68.59% of the assets have been replaced. This is still a HUGE achievement, over HALF of the game.
The team at the XWA upgrade project have been hard at work since the game came out, and they could use some reinforcements :D The Mods profile here on Mod-Database has not been representational of the work that has actually been done.
I have set out to change that by starting a development group that serves two purposes: 1. To keep the Mod page here on Mod-database up-to-date (after the renovation) 2. To find prospective Modellers, texture artists, and even 2-d artists, as well as people who have experience working with the X-wing Alliance Engine. If you know what a .OPT is, or better yet, how to make your own and get it working in XWA, We would like to invite you to our Dev group here on ModDb.
