I'm a longtime modder who has been on and off the scene for almost a decade. I started modding in 2000 starting off with Westwood Studios' Command and Conquer series. My first ever mod was a solo effort dubbed "Soviet Revenge" for Red Alert 2. Quickly after producing my first mod I met a team of the most skilled individuals I have ever worked with and lead development for a Red Alert 2 total conversion named "Warhammer 40k - Red Alert." With over 42,000 downloads this was by far the most successful and full-fledged mod I have been a part of. After the end of "Warhammer 40k - Red Alert\" and the decline of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 as a modding platform I've made minor mods for other games. Most notably I have created a skinpack for Command and Conquer: Renegade, a "Religious Victory" mod for Civilization IV, and a small modification called "Imperial Expansion" for Kohan: Ahriman's Gift.

The end of the first season of Sengoku Basara and approach of the NFL season has slown me down consistently.  Lately I've been up to reviewing mods for the NES classic Tecmo Super Bowl.  A lot of people have put some time into making some great mods that include everything from updated rosters to new logic.  You can view my reviews at:

Just a little background on some of the ideas and inspiration behind this mod.  I know the past few days news has slowed down a little (I've been preoccupied with Mount and Blade and Street Fighter IV) but here are a few games that may have features crossed over into this mod.

Report abuse Sengoku Basara Conquest - Overall Unit List

0 comments by Rodman49 on Jul 20th, 2009 digg this super bookmark

Here is the current work I have done on the base unit list.  Each faction will have at least one unique unit and then a few heroes available as well.

Ashigaru (City Assault) - Ashigaru are the light foot and basic infantry of most of the Japanese armies during the Sengoku period.  These infantry will be armed with swords and will have a bonus when assaulting cities.
Yari (Anti-Cavalry) - Yari, translated as spear, refers to ashigaru armed with spears.  Yari will be the standard anti-cavalry and anti-chariot unit available to all armies.
Diakyu (City Defense) - Diakyu or archers will be the last type of ashigaru infantry.  They will be armed with bows and have first strikes.  Additionally they will have bonuses to hill and city defense.

Samurai (Elite Foot) - Samurai are the elite foot troops available to all armies.  They will have significant armor and defense against light missile weapons with enough strength to make mincemeat of most infantry.
Samurai Diakyu (Elite Bowmen) - Elite Samurai armed with bows may be the strongest troops available for city defense.
Ninja (Assassin) - Ninjas are units that attack the weakest unit in an enemy stack rather than the strongest.  Although not the strongest unit in the game, their high movement and ability to attack the weakest units in stacks will make them vital to most conflicts.

Nagayari (Light Horse) - Light horse are great for harassing the enemy and pillaging improvements.  They are good against enemy light infantry except for Yari but lack the strength to consistently overpower Samurai.
Yari Samurai (Heavy Cavalry) - The most elite unit available to every army, mounted samurai have all the advantages of samurai and cavalry - strong power, first strikes, armor, mobility, immunity to first strikes, and flanking.
Chariots - Chariots are the earliest available harassing unit, but lack the mobility of Nagayari and the power of Yari Samurai.

Catapults - The only available seige equipment.
Ships - Still being worked on.

Report abuse Back Again

I'm finally back from Fort Lewis, Washington after having completed a month of training with the US Army.  Damn it feels good to be back home.  Anyway I'm currently back to planning and development for Sengoku Basara Conquest.  I've gotten lucky in finding some graphics that are very in line with what I want to design for most of the generic units.  This situation means that the only units that will require significant or total model work are the unique units and heroes.

I am currently working on the base unit list, unique units, and finding the last episodes (11 & 12) in English in order to get a better handle on the last factions.

The blog and production of Sengoku Basara Conquest will currently be on a one month Hiatus until July 17th, 2009.  I have a month long training assignment with the Army at Fort Lewis Washington and will be unable to update the mod until afterwards.

Hopefully all the episodes of Sengoku Basara will be fansubbed by then, you can check them out at Bssubs.net.  Their translation and typesetting isn't quite as high quality as Shinsen but they are much faster.

Report abuse Sengoku Basara Conquest

Initial planning has begun on my next mod - Sengoku Basara Conquest.  A modification and scenario for Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword v 3.19.  I'm currently looking at 10 civilization or sides with about 20 heroes from the Anime series included.  The mod will also have roughly 10 military units with unique units and upgrades for each faction, spies, wives (use missionary logic - think Chinese Unification in Warlords), and a few non-military units.

The bulk amount of work on this mod will be on the graphical front with some coding ingenuity.  If things go well I'm hoping to have a BETA version by this coming Christmas.  This won't be a massive all-inclusive mod like the big total conversions out there, however this will have much less personnel and hopefully a much shorter development cycle.
