Damn. I remember anticipating this mod, and then playing it with almost nobody. What a shame.
Anybody else remember how long this game was in development? How it got some front page mentions and how people seemed pretty psyched about it?
When all the reviewers have been sufficiently bribed by the publisher.
I did, hah!
True. But disregarding major publishers, you can still find demos for indie games and from smaller publishers (Paradox for example). Check Steam, they usually have at least one new demo a week. And occasional free weekends.
And why would you want to play anything from a major publisher, anyway? Call of Duty games and the like aren't even worth pirating in my opinion.
Brats want everything free, but they want honest people to still support publishers.
The typical excuse is, "One lost sale won't hurt this company."
Of course it won't hurt the publisher much. It hurts developers. It hurts honest consumers. But they don't give a ****.
I was all, "Woah how did I miss this? This looks really well done"
After reading the comments... all I can say is "**** YOU"
This is the kind of understanding of economics I'd expect from a teenager, so I can't really blame you for your opinion.
But let me throw this into your fragile argument: BUYING a video game does not give you rights to copy, share or redistribute it for free in any way, shape or form.
Developers DON'T whine about losing sales. PUBLISHERS do, because they're the ones that make money when their products are bought.
Now I know what you're thinking, "I don't care about publishers, they art the devils that bringeth evil into this world!"
Developers can not usually find the funding to make and distribute their own games. Publishers fund developers to make a game and then they distribute it to retailers. PUBLISHERS expect a return on this investment. If they don't make a profit off a game, then they start FIRING developers, or dev companies stop getting work from that publisher.
Piracy directly hurts game developers; programmers, artists and others that work directly with development companies. NOT because they lose sales (they don't MAKE sales), but because publishers won't hire them if they make games that don't SELL.
Piracy is essentially the theft of a SALE.
I don't expect you to understand anything I just wrote, though. I don't think you want to understand anything. You just want free **** and you're willing to take what you want.
If for nothing else but the act of breaking a law, pirates deserve punishment. There is no excuse for breaking a law, even an unjust one.
I agree that "triple A" titles are way to pricey, but two points:
High prices are not the cause of piracy. Indie games with ridiculously low prices are routinely pirated. Remember the humble indie bundle on Steam? That was pirated, even though you could pay anything you want for it. It was pirated a lot.
Second, major companies get away with high prices because people will still buy from them. MW3 is going to sell millions, and piracy isn't going to convince them to lower the price.
Honestly, what with the potential organizational power of the internet, I'm surprised boycotts aren't more popular.
Genius. I mean that's worked for so many indie devs. For instance:
Wait, no, that's a moronic idea.
Govt' crackdown. Most people are only motivated by fear of the law. Pathetic, but true.
And before someone says that "we don't have the money right now", I'd say I'd rather have our Government protecting our personal property rights and our private businesses then providing "free" healthcare or arresting people for victimless crimes. Also, piracy is a white collar crime: if we catch them, we can fine the CRAP outta them.
In other words, legalize pot and fine/jail pirates.
Get on now, you whores.
Well... I mighta joined, but some reason this is encouraged?
"Please do unbalance sides by joining a side with more players."
Funny problem: I don't have a mouse cursor while in-game. Anyone know a solution? No answers came up from a search.
Need some help, I love this mod!
Really cool idea.
But why Gamebryo? WHY?!
This mod is just hours of fun. One of the best.
This worked; that, or Desura fixed whatever problem it was having. Anyway, thanks, and I love your mod!
Awaiting the MODDB download of 3.5. Tried Desura, gave me an error about 3/4th the way through the download. Desura won't let me play FoF, and is therefore a piece of crap.
Please, RYell, please upload the latest patch to Moddb. Please?
It's not that I can't dodge the arrows, it's that they when I get within range, some players will run away and heal themselves until they can get back to distance or another player kills me while I'm chasing. It's a ******** tactic.
And of course you couldn't help but break out the bulls*** bow and abuse healing, thereby ******* the other team off and killing the server. Congrats, I hope your plan was to ruin other people's Mondays, to.
Ugh. I can't play for five minutes before someone breaks out the master bow or starts the 'run away and heal' tactic.
I would have thought the imbalances would be fixed. It IS the reason why this server had no servers after a couple of months of beta.
This game can be fun as long as people don't pick up the bow or abuse healing. Of course, no server would force any rules against it, besides, it's "part of the game".
Well, that part of the game is lame as F***. Fix this mod or we'll have dead servers again in a month.
Jan. 17th... update here we come.
I'm very excited. I just hope someone sets up a stable server.
This game looks great, Puny Human. I'll vote for you next year, I'm sure.
Can't wait for release.
GIVE ME LAUNCH DATE NOW.
This game looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. I can't wait until it's released. One complaint though, based on the gameplay video, which I'm sure is very early stuff, but still:
Now, I'm not asking for a tactical shooter, but it looks like player movement needs to be slowed down. It looks to me like sprint is always on. I guess this is just personal preference, but is there any chance of player movement being slower for release?
Joining the BlackIntel server. Join the teamspeak server listed on the MoTD loading screen and let's play this game.
I'm going to get on this game tonight. Everyone: Play this damn mod, it's the best.
Hey, for those who are still complaining about how it should be the Deathwatch:
The Deathwatch wear black. 1-inch pitch-black space marines running around in heavily shadowed areas, then fighting aliens in a chaotic mess of gunfire is to ******* hard to see.
Please try considering the decision from a game design standpoint.
This is very metal, this mod.
It's a cool idea, guys. But, I noticed in the video, that the human side has their crosshairs removed. Probably to make the human side more difficult and realistic.
You guys do realize that people will just d/l crosshairs, or tape crosshairs onto their screen, right?
Don't listen to the F***ing doubters, KC devs. This game is solid, and it'll be great.
Just please don't make it more like AoC or PVK2. Those games are good in their own right (cough), and this game should be unique.
So don't listen to all the whiners... keep making the game in the way your designed it. Listening to feedback is one thing, but once people start asking you to 'overhaul' this and 'completely remove' that, you might want to just tune them out.
