I'm not sure if you'll need it in your campaign, but it might be worth considering to integrate the 'blue shields' the Combine used to carve up City 17 and restrict citizen movement: Seeing as Barney has Civil Protection ID, it could be part of missions to use paths blocked by ray shields to get the drop on the enemy, or he would have to engage in brief solo missions to disable their generators in order to allow his comrades to follow him. Just an idea.

To be honest I've never expected any mod to arrive on time: It's just part of the process. Although there would probably be a unified gasp from all of the fans of Opfor2 if you said it was put on hold indefinitely, I'm pretty sure (hoping desperately) that's not the case.

Interesting structure - sounds like narrative risk-taking if you ask me. It could work really well or really bad, but I'm not very worried there :D

Renegatz Jan 26 2012, 10:40am says:

So is Jack an ex-soldier or something? Sorry to nag, but the idea of a Gordon Freeman equivalent albeit sans Hazard suit managing to slay hordes of trained foes seems a tad far-fetched, no?

By the way, I would just like to note that the environment depicted in this screen is great. The high structures surrounding the player foster a kind of intensity, and the shade partially obscuring the alien makes it seem all the more creepy.

If you guys have played Human Error at all (fantastic mod, by the way) you should know how well these creepy bastards have been brought into HL2 ;P

Now this is really interesting. I'm guessing the player will battle the last remnants of the Xen army on earth, with the Nihilanth already destroyed and the Combine rapidly en-route...

If you read the posts and updates you can make a more educated deduction. From what I've gathered, we can probably expect an episode 1 one day with many more story elements, but don't expect it any time before, say...2014. Gotta be patient for mods ;)

Renegatz Dec 20 2011, 11:04am says:

Seeing as there don't seem to be many specifications as to what the mod will entail, I'll just pretend I'm directing work on it myself, and present my suggestions in the form of 'features':

- The main character would be an Army soldier (on leave, hence the friend/girlfriend dynamic) with sufficient training to credibly take on the Combine military.

- A difficulty for this mod would be coming up with original enemies: Seeing as the Combine do not yet control Earth, the 'trans-human' branch of their armed forces (APC's, hunter-chopper, soldiers, CP's...) would not exist, leaving it up to the dev team to come up with alien enemy foot-soldiers as an authentic counter-part to the myriad Synths which will obviously be rampaging around the cities.

If I was the director and wished to remain faithful to HL lore, I would opt for a few from this selection:

And Synth 'infantry' -

This is 'part human' but the main picture looks very alien to me:

And along with these go the Crab and Mortar synths we saw briefly at the end of HL2. The main difficulty of this mod wouldn't be storyline (what you guys propose sounds really exciting) but mainly creating animations, skins and etc. for entirely new, alien enemies. If successful, the mod would be one of the best ever for HL2.

I hope these humble proposals are worthwhile, and if we get some juicy media releases from you guys over 2012, I would be happy to donate :) Good luck!

Renegatz Dec 2 2011, 7:53pm says:

The atmosphere is stunning here. A simple picture, but I'm already imagining the scene in my head...

An oppressive silence dominates the vast, sombre trainyard. The deathly quiet is interrupted only by a few drips of water from pipes that line the ceiling, and a few clicks as a Combine guard mans the console overseeing the sleeping station. Aside from this, all is motionless.

The camera suddenly swoops in on three figures, stealthily emerging from a corridor and onto the main platform. Despite the freezing cold, Barney is sweating profusely, and as his companions instinctively take cover behind a nearby pillar, he kneels and wipes the sweat from his brow, trying not to pant too loudly.

He doesn't remember when he last got some sleep: The previous few days have just been a flurry of combat, a blur of death and toil, marked only by the final destruction of the Citadel some hours ago. Gordon had done it. Barney had been worried at first about his old friend, but he knew him well enough to recognise that such a feat was nothing abnormal for the One Free Man. Either way, none of this mattered now - he just had to get the hell out of the city with as small a loss of life as possible.

Focusing on the task at hand, Barney scanned the area. Despite how derelict the place was, the presence of the Combine was obvious: No tools, equipment or supplies were found lying around. There was no staff save for the one watchman at the console: Aside from - or even including - that, only the cool, mindless machine of the Combine overwatch.

With a few curt motions to the men, Barney made them aware of the situation. Hefting his trusty assault rifle, he prepared to once more do what he had grown accustomed to over the past week. Looking to the men, he grinned wryly: "Well, boys, it's time to catch a train."
