Whoah, way to read into my comment there. "Starting to sound like those parents" from a single line, lol. You just said it yourself though, that her original appeal came from her cute eye-derpiness. My personal preference for Derpy would be more nuanced, someone who's a bit clumsy and has her head in the clouds, yet with a minimum level of intelligence and personality so as to be three-dimensional. I just don't get that vibe from this picture, hence why I don't like it.

I don't find anything insulting to her character because she's largely a fan construct, so please don't put words in my mouth.

Tasteless, imo. I prefer Derpy when she's cute, not a caricatural circus-act. Bring the negative karma.

Thank you Lambo, Refrag and CBI for your responses. I just want to specify that I'm more concerned with the alleged immersion-breaking development choices that I described than simple bugs, which can be fixed eventually. Either way I'll definitely give it a download after the next patch and see if the Zone smiles upon my rig :P

As soon as I heard that this was going to be released I told myself I'd wait and only grab it when it's seen as solid by the community. Now I'm not sure. I've been waiting for this since 2011 and donated to what I saw as a dream-come-true project. I also haven't played any SoC all this time in order to (laugh all you like) make it more of a virgin rediscovery of the game when LA came out. And yet, perusing through the reviews is concering. Though 10/10's form the vast majority, it's hard to find anything more than "BEST MOD EVAARRR" in each one, whereas the reviews people seem to have put any kind of thought and insight into are all pretty critical of the content, and these don't seem to be things that are on the fix-list unfortunately.

I'm mainly talking about things like very bad quests, tedious and unbalanced gameplay, bad attempts at humour, crappy voice-acting, crappy cutscenes and this kind of stuff. For those of you who love atmosphere and immersion: are these a problem as much as they sound?

@Cvoxalury Now that I look at it, perhaps the apartment block on the right is a bit overbearing (no side alleys, crevices, openings etc.), but the faceted-ness of the cylinder is alright.

No ordinary mornings in the Zone for Marked One. As the regular dregs of the Rookie Village gathered about their campfires and lit them or munched on some cold sausage for breakfast, he crept through the long grass on the outskirts of a nondescript farmstead on the other side of the valley. The surrounding flora danced in the light breeze, but the experienced Stalker didn't even notice the poppies. The sound of the bandits laughing and joking within were all he heard. His grip on his preferred sidearm tightened.

Renegatz Dec 2 2011, 7:53pm says:

The atmosphere is stunning here. A simple picture, but I'm already imagining the scene in my head...

An oppressive silence dominates the vast, sombre trainyard. The deathly quiet is interrupted only by a few drips of water from pipes that line the ceiling, and a few clicks as a Combine guard mans the console overseeing the sleeping station. Aside from this, all is motionless.

The camera suddenly swoops in on three figures, stealthily emerging from a corridor and onto the main platform. Despite the freezing cold, Barney is sweating profusely, and as his companions instinctively take cover behind a nearby pillar, he kneels and wipes the sweat from his brow, trying not to pant too loudly.

He doesn't remember when he last got some sleep: The previous few days have just been a flurry of combat, a blur of death and toil, marked only by the final destruction of the Citadel some hours ago. Gordon had done it. Barney had been worried at first about his old friend, but he knew him well enough to recognise that such a feat was nothing abnormal for the One Free Man. Either way, none of this mattered now - he just had to get the hell out of the city with as small a loss of life as possible.

Focusing on the task at hand, Barney scanned the area. Despite how derelict the place was, the presence of the Combine was obvious: No tools, equipment or supplies were found lying around. There was no staff save for the one watchman at the console: Aside from - or even including - that, only the cool, mindless machine of the Combine overwatch.

With a few curt motions to the men, Barney made them aware of the situation. Hefting his trusty assault rifle, he prepared to once more do what he had grown accustomed to over the past week. Looking to the men, he grinned wryly: "Well, boys, it's time to catch a train."

Hey, Yes. SoC was the best, in everything except graphics and gameplay, in which case CoP wins. I dont give a damn about graphics though as long as they are good enough to provide for the atmosphere, but the gameplay additions GSC have made over time are decent if you ask me. I know I will still buy Stalker 2 because there's still nothing quite like stalker, but I already know it wont be half as good as LA will be.

Its exactly the same situation for us Total War fans, except worse: The Creative Assembly keep on upping graphics and spewing out one game a year, without making any effort to make the game engine moddable (the TW series has a MASSIVE mod community, having won multiple best mod awards) which is just disgusting. As for CoD, I personally stopped at CoD 4, but its still a great game even if its not very sophisticated.

I completely agree with you in that the 'constant warfare' of CS killed off the atmosphere, the way there were people and music everywhere, most of the time just anonymous squads shooting each other. If only they could allow you to join factions but with a more calm version of faction warfare, just take some lads and do a raid or two...

Oh and btw, 'excellent mod(s)' is purposely linked to LA :) because it seems to be the closest thing to my perfect stalker universe.

I definitely agree with you. You know theres something seriously wrong with damage-dealing when a dog bite inflicts as much damage as a bullet. Its maddening to see all the unique NPC's you like get killed off by roaming, respawning mutants.
