"The chasm between the beauty and seriousness of the work, and what it has become, has overwhelmed me. The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing. There is only one solution for me: to turn my head away."
Which ordinarily I wouldn't have too much of a problem with (Bad games are best left in the past; Conquest) but as we've all seen it comes at the price of Merp; far, far, far too high a price to pay for mediocrity then.
I don't know. From what I've seen, it follows the formula movie licensed games use too well. I expected it to look like the Batman games, but Assassin's Creed too?
Take an established and beloved IP, take the mechanics from another established and successful game franchise, then throw around vague marketing terms about how we're going to really see Middle Earth.
Personally, I think it's playing it too safe to be anything interesting. This game isn't going to let me "be" in Middle Earth. With the half wraith thing going on, I don't think it's interested in doing so either. A Lotr game that doesn't respect the lore is just a generic fantasy game. It's just a game WB is making to ride the hype of the new films.
Same old, same old.
Never mind I fixed it. I had purchased Mass Effect just for this mod and found that for some reason the version I bought from Steam wasn't patched to 1.02
I'm not really sure what happened but I made a mistake somewhere with the LAA tool I think and now Mass Effect is broken.
I told the LAA tool to allow the Mass Effect Launcher to use more than 2gb instead of the Mass Effect.exe accidentally. Now Mass Effect will not start at all. I tried undoing it by telling the LAA to limit it back to 2gb. When that didn't work, I removed all the files and re downloaded Mass Effect without using the LAA tool at all. It still doesn't work. I don't know what to do.
I second that.
This mod is going to be great. Good luck with everything.
The cover did it for me. I haven't even looked into what the hell the story is about, but that sounds really bad.
Commercialized games won't respect the source material. What these game companies don't understand (or likely simply don't care about in an attempt to chase the lowest denominator) is that I have no interest in a Middle Earth game that doesn't respect the setting. Middle Earth's rules and nuances are what set it apart from a generic fantasy setting; they're plenty of those already.
It's a shame. Merp was going to be different: An actual Middle Earth Role-playing game not a generic fantasy game playing dress up.
Warner Brothers is making a sandbox Lotr game.
Right there with you.
Looking forward to it.
I hope everything goes well with this project. This is going to be great!
I knew that the concept of Merp wouldn't die. Good luck man, I'm rooting for this.
I think the team has likely gained a lot of experience from Merp that will translate into their future works.
I hope you guys do really well in your future projects. I sort of felt it was my duty to try and help however I could, but maybe after Warner Brothers' license expires in a few years another project can emerge.
No WB just has the legal right to pursue its counter suit; it hasn't won anything yet.
Goodbye, and I wish you all the best in your future projects.
Breaking News! Warner Brothers is allowed to pursue its counter suit against the Tolkien Estate.
"The judge also says that although the other side might argue that Warners has dressed up a challenge to exploitation into "repudiation," that term appropriately characterizes the claim that the Tolkien estate has "revoked rights it already granted."
Hey all, just a reminder:
In addition to signing the petition and writing a letter, you can also post in the Angry Joe thread I made a while back.
I've kept it updated.
Also don't forget about possibly making awareness videos; they can be whatever you'd like them to be and it's not too hard :)
Spread the word and Save Merp!
Just wanted to say Good Morning and I think Merp will get through this. :)
Hey everyone, don't forget about the awareness videos for Merp. :)
I made a video about the letter writing campaign to help spread the word.
I have nothing but respect for Christopher Tolkien, but I think it would be a hard sale.
I think Merp can beat this.
If the Tolkien Estate wins, then WB's say doesn't matter anymore.
Hey guys, let's make the awareness videos for Merp. :)
Collectively they can make a difference.
Would you mind if I used this information you've provided here to bump a few threads I have going about Merp?
I've noticed this for some time now. At first I thought it was coincidence, but it seems as though the linked comment option is gone.
I left a comment about Merp on the Conan reviews Skyrim video (old but still popular) Please thumbs up my comment to help it get noticed.
I left a comment about Merp on MMoxreviews episode 76. Please thumbs up my comment to help it get noticed.
Thanks everyone and let's start spreading the word with videos :)
C'mon everyone, let's make a difference for Merp!
Sorry about that.
I just uploaded my youtube video about Merp.
It briefly talks about some Tolkien, then jumps right into Merp. For headphone users, the video might be a little loud (not entirely sure though), so a fair word of warning.
