I personally prefer this one, It still looks like a robot but has that heavier assault unit feel, remember that the Avatars were heavy combat units used ONLY well after NOD had begun its attack. At that point they were called in to deal with the heavier GDI units.....

It said fusion in the book and the site, but remember that most nuclear fusion weapons are of the Thermonuclear type, meaning they have a Fission type warhead to kick-start it....

Not sure why it says Fissionable materials.....

Railgunner2160 Aug 25 2011, 5:15am replied:

The planet cracker was a last ditch weapon for use against the covenant "Homeworld" (They didn't know there wasn't one, it was built before halo 1) And consisted of nine fusion warheads encased in lithium triteride armor. When detonated, it compresses its fissionable material to neutron-star density, boosting the thermonuclear yield a hundredfold. Called A NOVA bomb, It even had a recorded message for the covenant,

"I am Vice Admiral Danforth Whitcomb, temporarily in command of the UNSC military base Reach. To the Covenant uglies that might be listening, you have a few seconds to pray to your damned heathen gods. You all have a nice day in hell..."

Railgunner2160 Aug 25 2011, 5:02am says:

Okay, difference noted. However in the later novels Nuclear weapons were becoming rare due to the time it took to refine the isotopes used in them, and the fact that they had severely reduced their stock piles, so there were also concerns about the supply running out.....

Railgunner2160 Aug 24 2011, 11:14pm says:

Why Fusion Torpedoes??? Any form of nuclear weapon was considered a Strategic weapon and was only carried in VERY limited numbers aboard Important vessels.......

Even the planetcracker they made in the novels was a massive expenditure of nuclear material from their reserves, and they only built one.....

Truly awesome!!! It now has some epic armament!!!! One of my favorite scenes in ME2 was where that guy is berating those recruits.....

Here follows said conversations transcript for those who haven't played ME2:

"Gunnery Chief: This, recruits, is a 20-kilo ferrous slug. Feel the weight. Every five seconds, the main gun of an Everest-class dreadnought accelerates one to 1.3 percent of light speed. It impacts with the force of a 38-kiloton bomb. That is three times the yield of the city buster dropped on Hiroshima back on Earth. That means Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son-of-a-Bitch in space. Now! Serviceman Burnside! What is Newton's First Law?

Recruit: Sir! A object in motion stays in motion, sir!

Gunnery Chief: No credit for partial answers, maggot!

Recruit: Sir! Unless acted on by an outside force, sir!

Gunnery Chief: Damn straight! I dare to assume you ignorant jackasses know that space is empty. Once you fire this hunk of metal, it keeps going until it hits something. That can be a ship, or the planet behind that ship. It might go off into deep space and hit somebody else in ten thousand years.
If you pull the trigger on this, you're ruining someone's day somewhere and sometime. That is why you check your Damn targets! That is why you wait for the computer to give you a Damn firing solution! That is why, Serviceman Chung, we do not "eyeball it!" This is a weapon of mass destruction. You are not a cowboy shooting from the hip.

Recruit: Sir, yes sir!"

Oh?? The entire fleet of A-10s just had a major overhaul a few years ago to bring them up to spec, Th A-10C has all the modern equipment that the rest of our aircraft enjoy, including a ton of new smart munitions!! the A-10C is expected to continue flying until 2028, so I think against modern militaries that it has equal chance of surviving as any modern aircraft!! Also keep in mind that the A-10s only purpose is Close Air Support, meaning they fly low, slow and blast armored vehicles, tanks, and infantry to pieces and still come out flying for more. The F-35 JSF doesn't stand a chance in the conditions that the A-10 flies.....

That GAU-8/A rotary cannon isn't just for show, it spit depleted uranium sabot rounds out at 3900 rounds per minute....

Railgunner2160 Aug 20 2011, 6:18pm replied:

Umm, as far as I can recall only a couple of the A-10s pilots have been killed, and with only 6 aircraft lost! I mean the cockpit tub is made out of titanium alloy, the toughest metal used in military aircraft, also it has very thick armor and can fly FULLY LOADED on ONE of it's 2 engines!

They really over engineered those beasts, one pilot in the 2003 iraqui war had his plane shot to pieces, had a engine destroyed and the hydraulics destroyed and had to fly it mechanically AND still mad it back to base with no injuries.....

Railgunner2160 Aug 20 2011, 5:56pm says:

true, But the F-35 will never be a good CAS candidate. I'm sorry, but it's too flimsy for the job, 1 engine, thin armor and poor slow speed handling will cripple it! They need to make a new successor to the A-10....
