Waiting for Windows to update fresh installS (yup, two of 'em at the same time) has to be among the most boring things known to man, so here's an

UPDATE!

3:40AM. My comp is back functional for one. Yay non-ded comp and CHKDSK!. Also got a nifty hard drive connection extension cable which I'm using to prevent that 2007 laptop from melting its own hard drive, at the cost of said hard drive is now outside the laptop itself. Then again its battery is long dead, it was emplaced pretty much like a desktop already, so this is an upgrade. Hard drive no longer at a minimum of 40ºC allowed me to make a fresh Windows install on it, too. But now... I have to wait for it to update. Time elapsed: 2+ hours. ETA: at least 4 more. #WindowsUpdate
Also updating a fresh install on a "new" desktop comp (built from spares), so double the waiting fun!
On a related note, Trusted Installer.exe is using 1.42GB ram on said desktop. Wanna bet that laptop and its 2GB ram will take much, much longer than 4 more hours to fully update?
*sigh*

TL;DR: Major tech issues mostly fixed, getting some mighty boredom waiting for Windows Update in other two, fresh installs.

----------[PREVIOUSLY POSTED STUFF BELOW]------------

FINE TROLLDB. I'LL TYPE IT ALL AGAIN.
Pretty much each couple days had its own reason, but the current one is the most "wut da zog" one. Right now, I'm working to have my comp not try to murder its own capability to display ANY kind of video because it didn't like one of my hard drive that got its file system magically fubar'd.
I know that makes next to no sense, but that's about all the info i have on it atm. Until I can sort this out, I'm limited to eithera budget laptop comp or a run down 2007 laptop.

TL;DR: Weird (yet serious) technical difficulties, gaming comp non-functional, limited to low end laptops for now.

Below is the text I could've copypasta'd from my same announcement on Steam, but nooo. TrollDB is way too important for you to not manually type in everything. As in, pasting text resulted on this:

Hi, im thinking about buying a copy of DOW SS on steam for the online gameplay (currently stuck with Lan games with my 2 friends) and I want to know how active or alive the online steam servers are and how many of the people play UA mod online before I buy a steam copy.

While afaik the servers are working alright, I'm not exactly reference material for Soulstorm online multiplayer activity, but I can refer you to two Steam groups where UA players gather to play online:
Steamcommunity.com
Steamcommunity.com
I'll leave it up to you to decide.

Also, Steam Soulstorm doesn't necessarily have to replace your 1.20 Soulstorm. Unless I'm mistaken, only one of them will be multiplayer-enabled (that being, more than just Sisters and DE unlocked) at the same time, but you should be able to toggle between which of your Soulstorms has all races enabled with a small registry edit. Effectively preserving the usefulness of both.
There's also a few other, more advanced trickery, such as a way to automatically keep the mods and similar between both of your Soulstorms in perfect sync. But first message me if you're interested. Already sent you PM :)

The core, "standard" UA or UA + Tyranids?
Core UA should work directly after installation (simply load it from the Game Manager on the Main Menu), but since it's a very large mod with many things that can be messed with guessing is difficult.
My two best guesses are (assuming UA version 1.73.9):
- Download this and extract it to your Soulstorm directory. Might fix the issue: Mediafire.com
- If you had a version of UA previous to 1.73 installed, manually delete (do NOT use any uninstaller) both folders and .module files named "UltimateApocalypse" and "UltimateApocalypse_Tyranids". Then reinstall, and it should work.

UA + Tyranids requires the Tyranid mod to function, plus a small tweak on a .module file. Download the Tyranid mod here: Moddb.com
Finally, here's a download for the already tweaked .module file. Just place it on your Soulstorm directory *after* installing the mod: Mediafire.com

There's also a demonstrative UA installation video here: Youtube.com

If still can't get it working, I'll need you to help me out with a debugging log file from your comp. You'll have to:
- Launch Soulstorm, try loading UA (triggering the error), then close Soulstorm.
- Navigate to your Soulstorm directory, and locate a file named "Warnings.log"
- Either:
· Upload the file itself on Minfil.org
· Open it with notepad, and make a paste in Pastebin.com
- Either of 'em will do. When done, link your results back here.

No idea tbh, but judging by my user icon, I'd say bread, blood (actually carrot juice) and robot parts. Also possibly fairy magic.
