This is where I want to be buried when I die.
The only way I'd ever play video games on a console is if I could swap out those god-awfully limited and sluggish controllers for a keyboard and mouse. Oh, and if they had hardware that wasn't outdated. And if their games were wide open to modding. And if you could easily create 3rd party programs on their restrictive operating systems.
PC all the way.
Looks like my work on the CCK paid off. The new team color pattern looks nice too, glad you figured out how to do it.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. I'm glad Crytek came through on this.
Seems like re-installing COD4 wasn't such a bad idea after all. The early version of the mod was fun; hopefully the final is going to be amazing.
They already have a gameplay trailer showing pretty much all of that.
Nice job on the ship, though I'm not too sure about that raised square part in the back. It seems like it's a bit out of place, just jutting right out from the rest of the vessel. I'd say move it down a little so that it blends better.
I sent you a PM with further instructions, hopefully we can get this sorted out.
Well, that sounds like a problem on your end, it seems to be working for everybody else.
Fortunately, I still have the file uploaded to mediafire, so you can try to download it here: Mediafire.com
Be sure that you have the 1.1 patch installed, as ITOG (as well as all other mods) requires it.
I appreciate the support guys, but you have to realize that it took me the better part of a whole year just to make one race. I'll still update it if people call for it--balance, bug fixes, etc. But not a whole other race. I have other projects that I want to get on the road, now that ITOG is out of the way.
I could be kind and just delete your comment, but I think I'll let everyone have the chance to give you negative karma instead.
Really couldn't care less about cell phones in general. You know what my current cell phone does? It makes phone calls.
Nice, very nice. I'm really liking the weapon sound effects, they feel like they really have some substance to them, more than your average "pew pew" laser.
Update: Alpha testing has begun, and will continue for the next week or so. With any luck, most issues will be addressed and fixed, and the final product will be an enjoyable one.
Nice job. This one looks much more believable as a frigate than the previous ship posted.
Amazing looking ship, but, a frigate? Judging only from the size of the windows on it, it looks bigger than a battleship. And, with a crew of only 44... might get a bit lonely there. :P
I guess I'm saying that the windows might need to be scaled up. A lot. A length of only 104 meters and a crew of 44 don't seem like plausible characteristics for the ship in the image.
But, again, good work on the model. Looks really nice. :)
Maybe. I haven't really payed much attention to Desura, to be honest.
Just a quick update: I'm currently working on getting the AI to operate properly. It is not proving to be easy. Because the AI won't be able to play the game like it's intended to be played in pvp, a single player skirmish game against the AI in this mod will be more like a survival gametype.
The maps will be large and filled with resources, but the AI will be relentless, sending fleet after fleet to kill you. You'll have to keep on the move, and build a strong fleet in order to survive. The AI can be defeated, but it won't be an easy task.
Also, expect a gameplay video sometime soon, that is, if I can get the AI to function.
Yeah, a bit cruel, but it was totally worth it. To me :P
In reality, though, I'm getting very, very close to finishing it up. Don't be surprised if you see this "released" again in a couple weeks.
I came here to take down my obvious April Fool's joke, but after seeing your comment, I think I'll leave it up for a little while longer.
Aw man, you ruined it. :(
I guess now I'll have to rename this to "Main Menu Demo" or something. :P
Ah, you probably just have the shortcut set up wrong.
Please make sure you add "-mod itog_ver_5l00f.big" in the shortcut.
Really, it's not all that hard of a thing to do.
It's also an L in the "5l00f" part, not a number one.
Let me know of you are still having problems.
Those fighters are looking pretty neat; good job. One thing that bugged me though was the size of the shield impacts on the capital ships. It seems a bit odd for weapons from a fightercraft to create such a big disruption in the capital ship's shields. I would recommend scaling that effect down to say, a fourth or fifth of its original size.
But, then again, I don't know what kind of armament those fighters have, so it could very well be that the shield impact size is appropriate.
If we had the source code, it would be possible to make Homeworld 2 a platformer with teddy bears and rainbows.
The only thing standing in the way of your idea is potential performance issues. I emphasize the word "potential." The only way to find out for sure is to do some tests for yourself.
Yeah, a mod like that would certainly be possible. However, there would be technical issues that would have to be addressed. Having 1000 small ships flailing around would perform just as badly as 1000 big ships flailing around. It would probably require a fairly large amount of optimization to make it perform well: reducing texture sizes, reducing polygons, removing unneeded visual "fluff," etc.
That, and Homeworld 2 doesn't have the best engine, so odds are it'll still end up performing pretty bad, even with all the optimizations.
When I'm finished with the release version of the mod, it will be released asap. I'm not big on marketing :P
Everything you've seen so far will still be in the mod. The only thing that's changing is the gameplay. It's not necessarily better or worse, but it's different from what I had originally wanted.
That's pretty much what I did. I set the "release month" for November, and I /thought/ all that I had left to do was polishing. But, errors and a myriad of complications arose, and that forced me to take a few steps back.
But, I think the current release date for 2014 fits your suggestion quite well :P
This game made no sense at all, but damn was it fun. Personally I liked its sequel, Hellbender, a lot better.
I think you're on the right track with the explosions. They're looking decent, but aren't quite perfect yet.
I know it's your game, but if I may suggest, have a look at how Hegemonia did its explosions: Youtube.com
There are some good examples around the 9:45 mark. And keep in mind, these are explosion effects on an engine that's nine years old. I'm sure you guys could make them even better in Gemini Wars. :P
