Never really done much blogging but figured i would write a blog to introduce people or remind people of games that atleast I feel shouldn't of died out as they never got to perfect their game design formula. Anyway if I miss any feel free to leave a comment suggesting games this isn't any kind of Top 10 list there is no order or higher rated than the other.

Hidden and Dangerous

"Hidden & Dangerous is a WWII 1999 computer and video game developed by Illusion Softworks and published by Take-Two Interactive and TalonSoft for Windows, the Dreamcast, and the PlayStation. The PlayStation port of the game was developed by Tarantula Studios. It is regarded as one of the pioneering tactical first/third person shooters".

One of my all time favorite tatical shooters mainly due to the diverse characters that if killed are permanently removed from the roster and cannot be replaced. This made the game feel very tense as you can be killed within very few gunshots that combined with quite a few night time stealth based operations meant that you had to plan out where you would position each member of your team and survey your surroundings before attacking. The game also featured one of the best ways of explaining your objectives before each mission i have seen in any tatical shooter. I feel that under a modern game engine that improved upon the often buggy AI and a more realistic environment featuring use of camoflague and foliage cover would make this a hit once again atleast on PC.

Ghost Master

"Ghost Master (released as Ghost Master: The Gravenville Chronicles on the Xbox and PlayStation 2) is a puzzle/strategy game for the PC. It is among a small selection of games that put the player in the role of the enemy. In this case, the player assumes the role of a Ghost Master, a bureaucratic spirit tasked to perform certain duties. While the bulk of a Ghost Master's duties consist of hauntings, a Ghost Master may also be "called in" to increase belief in the supernatural, avenge deaths, and conscript renegade ghosts. Because a Ghost Master cannot directly interfere in the world of mortals, the Ghost Master is given a team of subordinate ghosts to do so. When not haunting, the Ghost Master is responsible for the training of the ghosts under his/her command."

Ghost Master is game that is one of the more hidden gem type games on this list partly due to the lack of marketing of the game at the time. I discovered this game by chance as my brother bought it not knowing what the game was really about. The best way i can describe this game is like a cross between The Sims and an RTS the objective of the game being to place the right haunter to scare the mortals from the building with limited power at first and without the knowlege of what the AI mortal might be scared of.

However there are also missions that involve having to solve puzzles in order to gain access to better haunters based on horror culture such as the Headless Horseman, undead Indian and the best of all the Darkling which the story revolves around. However this game is not really a horror game due to its light hearted humorous ghost attacks, comedic animations and dialog. Unfortunatley this game suffers from random AI pattern failures, bugs and glitches in puzzle mechanics and logic it is still however a brilliant game when it all works and will have you laughing aloud at some of the crazy powers your haunters posses (dance macarbe ^^).

Perhaps one of the most original rts type games i have ever played this game also set up it's ending perfect for a sequel.

For anyone wishing to play it this game can be found on Steam.

System Shock 2

"System Shock 2 is a first-person shooter action role-playing survival horror video game for Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X and Linux. The title was designed by Ken Levine and co-developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios. Originally intended to be a standalone title, its story was changed during production into a sequel to the 1994 PC game System Shock; the alterations were made when Electronic Arts—who owned the System Shock franchise rights—signed on as publisher. System Shock 2 was released on August 11, 1999, in North America. "

First off System Shock 2 is one of my favorite games rivaling that of the Half Life series and Unreal Tournament 99 for anyone who knows me i love those games a hell of alot so this will be refected in my opinion on why it deserves a sequel. First off System Shock 2 allreadt has one of the biggest outcry for a sequel i have found on the internet it is included in a lot of lists of best games that need a sequel however this is in my opinion for a good reason. The game provides a certain tention and subtle horror that few horror games can rival for instance the basic enemy of the game screams at you to run away from it as it has no control over his movement functions and is being controlled by a parasitic worm known as an anelid. I can only imagine how horrorfying it would be to be to be in control of your emotions and be able to think for yourself but not be able to control what your doing. This is just the tip of the iceberg of amazing enemy design you must face with little ammo weapons that will degrade overtime and limited stat points to spend. System Shock has had a spirtual successor games with the Bioshock series that i do really like however in my opinion the horror atmosphere and complexity of survival mechanics has not been achieved with Bioshock so i feel that seperating the two and carrying on System Shock alongside Bioshock would be the best course of action.

A little taste of what a System Shock 2 remake might look a bit like (SPOILER WARNING)

This game can be found on Steam or on GOG
