No sir - ORION: Prelude is an independent / standalone game - all you will need is ORION: Prelude ;)
You can learn more about it in this video:
It's very optimized, even in it's early stage.
It is scheduled to release on XBLA, PSN and STEAM for $14.99.
FREE DLC has been announced for all platforms
It runs on Unreal Engine 3.
Hey FireSpike - thanks for taking the time to comment.
Yes, ORION: Prelude will in fact include dinosaurs and vehicles. Go check it all out at:
It is true - the Kick Starter promotion ends in roughly 5 hours. It was a huge 30 day event. While the KickStarter rewards were specific to the Kick Starter promotion - our normal donation system will be going back online (uses PayPal) once Kick Starter ends.
We will offer other incentives in the future and are always happy to talk one on one and work directly with you to gauge some package and reward ideas.
If you would like to talk, feel free to email personally at:
We agree with you - what was displayed was a pre-alpha. All that "neat" stuff comes once the foundation is done being laid out :)
The technology is great. There are quite a few awesome technology demonstrations that I have that really push that technology. The problem is, that it all depends on the developer. There are a few games that really utilize it nicely, others are sloppy integrations and are more of a headache than a joy.
It's relatively easy, and NVIDIA will be assisting us the entire way.
While it's for a limited crowd (not a huge population having access to 3D tech yet) - it is definitely worth it when it's done right.
Let me know if you want some of the 3D tech demos I have - email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I hope you notice this post was listened to ;)
Probably my only complaint towards KickStarter - however it is not there fault.
Right now, Amazon Business is the only e-pay site that allows KickStarter to do "pledges" - where you pledge an amount and it doesn't take it out of your account until the very end.
However, once KickStarter is over our normal donation system will be back online - and it uses PayPal.
ORION: Prelude is scheduled for release on XBLA / PSN / STEAM.
Thanks man, we appreciate the kind words ;)
Yes, we actually don 't have a preference for it - we accept both.
Alt - air
Or Alt - I - Air (assassin's creed style).
Yessir, you have exactly what you need :)
Glad you got it.
They should be up. Make sure to "un-check" the "Show Map List" box at the bottom of the "Find Servers" screen.
We have released the SDK - and we are more than happy to give tips on how we did things and anything we might have laying around here.
However, we are a very small studio and are unable to focus on this - as it was mostly to get feedback from you guys and implement it into the "real deal".
We do however, love to play with you guys.
Unreal Engine 3.0
It's a time-investment competition. People win - people lose.
It's up to you if an hour of your time is worth all of the above.
If it makes you feel any better - I used an on-board laptop microphone for recording "The Indie Dream" trailer.
Our audio team is capable of cleaning up quite a bit ;)
This is the alien medic gun :)
Everyone should submit! It's a $400-$500 video card for no more than an hour of your time!
Plus, why can't there be a British announcer? In fact I think we need to cover that base and have at least one British Announcer..
It is such a great card - I am running them as well.
Love love this card.
Thanks man - we really appreciate it.
Make sure to check out the new competition that goes live tomorrow - you can have a chance to win an incredible NVIDIA GTX 480 video card - simply by using your voice! Not to mention - being put in the game AND credits!
We are aiming to release ORION: Prelude for $14.99 on all platforms.
Not to mention the insane amount of free DLC that will come after it as well ;)
We are going to host a "Play With Devs" Match - we are aiming for March 6th right now. As we get closer we will make a public announcement (after GDC) :)
FNC-30 Assault Rifle
Medic Gun (Support Class)
TREK-22 Sniper Rifle
Thanks man - we hope everyone here can attend the 'Play With Devs' Source Beta match that we are lining up for March (after GDC).
Details will come in the next few weeks ;)
The Source Beta was very far from ever being a "complete product". It was (and still is) a Beta 1 release. There would have been at least 20 more versions towards it before it became a release candidate. Spending that much time on an experiment in which we already gathered the proper information - wasn't worth it nor possible given we are a small independent developer.
We believe the fans will be much happier with an overall complete product - with the features they want - which will be found in 'ORION: Prelude'
We were limited by the technology - we coulnd't incorporate the features that we (and you guys) wanted - in a way that we were comfortable with - which were dinosaurs and vehicles among many more.
The ORION: Project (Source Beta) was also created as a prototype - an experimental playground. We released and built it for free to obtain feedback from the community - and then integrated and applied to the game world. All of this information and feedback was used for our studios first endeavor (and full game), 'ORION: Prelude'.
Yessir, we have every intention of getting Prelude to be available on Desura as well.
When we went back to the character designs, we really wanted to make them slim-fitted around the character. We really took inspiration from both Mass Effect and Dead Space in terms of the scaled designs, as well as smaller, more panel-based design.
However, for the final armor, our biggest influence and inspiration was actually Iron Man, believe it or not.
Hey man, that is really nice - even the thought alone.
Glad you guys think this is neat as we do :P
While we appreciate your tracking and support, we have successfully raised 40% of the pledged amount. We are about to hit $4,000 tonight and we appreciate everyones help and support - you guys are all fantastic.
Keep it going!
We missed you.
See you in next month's event??
There are 5 different pines in use there. Think of it as:
01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05
01 being the healthiest, fullest tree. 05 being dead as a door nail with no pine needles.
It just depends on how you use them. The most detailed of the bunch (the healthiest) is still under 600 triangles. This allows for some very dense forests, which we prefer over going over and out with detail per-tree.
*NOTE - Weapon & Arms are placeholders from the Source Multipalyer Beta.
This is a generic related post.
Stop being so depressed in life.
While on this subject, each item / ability will have it's pros and cons - also in relation to the dinosaurs.
We are putting some very awesome systems in place!
Yes and no. Depends on the situation and depends on his behavior at that very moment. The behavior systems are extremely dynamic - however jetpacking near a T-Rex will "annoy" it and the chances of it becoming more raged are significantly increased.
Hope that ramble jamble somewhat helped you ;)
We are shifting the separation between the Source Multiplayer Beta page and ORION: Prelude. We will no longer be updating this area with Prelude-related content so make sure to "Watch" our new title, 'ORION: Prelude'. The site is located at:
We will be continuing to post all Source Multiplayer Beta-related updates here - including 'Play With Developers' matches.
You win :P
To answer this I'll use a segment from our new interview with HookedGamers.com:
"You'll notice in the EuroGamer Technology demonstration that they didn't jetpack until the very end. A lot of responses we get are "why didn't they just jetpack right away?". The answer is simply you won't want to if you are near a T-Rex - or unless you have no other option as it was in the trailer."

ORION mostly spoke for it self thankfully! We are extremely humbled by this and all future partnerships that we are currently working on. Some very exciting things are happening and in the end it's going to be great for you guys, the gamers!
While it does require a few extra peripherals and only a sliver of the PC ORION community will be able to utilize it - it will be EXTREMELY neat and we cannot wait to demo it out early next year!
Great post. I wish I could clone you. This is how a developer wishes all fans to be and present. We really appreciate this type of feedback.
Rest assured - all of your worries are things already being addressed. We hope that you stick around and continue leaving great feedback - thanks again.
Thank you man - much appreciated. But stand corrected - not just a mod - but over ten years of insane amounts of work - don't think it was easy!
"This is a very rough / early glimpse to the technology behind ORION: Prelude. While the full trailer won't be coming out until early 2011, this should be able to help satisfy some of that ORION hunger in your bellies."
Well technically you just said it today. And I quote:

Thanks man - we appreciate that!
Even got a +1 from me.
ORION: Prelude is currently aimed to release on Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network and STEAM gaming platforms.
However, that being said - we've come from the indie / modding community and will price the game with that always in mind.
That is 100% in-engine on Unreal Engine 3.0
It's definitely not a valid complaint, considering this is what he said:
"seriously, stop spamming the frontpage "
He is taking it up with the wrong people as I have previously written:
"Well to be fair we post it and it's up to the ModDb editors whether they want it on the main page or if they just archive it and let it remain on our page.
So that's completely up to them, however all of theses posts ARE intended to be at least archived and on our site as it is part of the event and fans that do want to follow can find it all in one nice spot.
ModDB will probably post a few here and there of the ones they find neat. They did skip Day 01 afterall."
To be fair... they started as yellowish / brown but are currently blue in the Source Multiplayer Beta 1.2.
The "yellowish" class is the Support class.
Such a charmer.
Lets hope EP3 gets announced. It's long over due and it will be exciting to see what Valve can do with the Source Engine - as they are really only the ones that can push it anymore.
Yeah we went balls-to-the-walls crazy on the game performance aspect.
It runs great - what are your system specs?
We are completely fixing the Melee Attack system for both weapons and the flag weapon :)
My bad - We are announcing the release date this Sunday evening. Don't worry, it won't be that long of a wait (if testing goes well, knock on wood!)
You're telling me :)
My fingers hurt.
Yeah, those are the teammate indicators - they are being repositioned to the chest of the teammates.
***Please note that the glowy thing above the players head is the placeholder Flag model for the Capture the Flag game mode.***
There are quite a few things that have been fixed since then (i'd hope so atleast, its from 2006).
But we were aware of things such as the non-illuminated texture of the Sniper Rifle and a few other bugs and glitches.
We've also implemented first-person death cams for when you die as well.
Either way, we hope you enjoy this and are as excited for a release as we are.
One is the loneliest number.
This room is awesome.
This is the room that the humans spawn in once they die.
In the passenger seat of a Penguin buggy with my Support allie.
This was taken from a private multiplayer beta test on the multiplayer level titled 'Bare' created by Joe (thecraftsman)
After hours of shooting at eachother, we decided to get wild with the buggies and take them off jumps off the cliff.
This was probably the most recent shot before the development paused.
So enjoy... time to shower and start cracking the whips again!
