The official map (DocksOfTheDead) doesn't allow zombies to spawn anywhere near the humans at the start, and the shotguns are all spread out. If you were playing on a third-party map, then that's not exactly a fault with the mod.

Also, there is no "gravity gun" - it's just a carrying mode. You can't pick up that heavy metal desk, but you can push it. Zombies are immensely strong, and can throw even heavy objects with apparent ease.
