As I must agree with you about availability, and the evolution of the mod, but there's one thing that made us take such decision:
Valve update of SDK 2006 that broke Lua code.
And now SDK updated again, and broke vpk.exe making Smod:Standalone
not playable/installable for most users.

As soon as vpk.exe will be working again, I going to remaster 1.5.8 on a standalone engine. to make it slightly more enjoyable, and bug free.
We're not using any content from Crytek.

That's because of missing precache in mapadd, you can copy-paste the mapadd files from the lates beta to 1.5.9 version. it should help

Restart steam after downloading it.
Also check for "double folder" (sourcemods/Crylife/Crylife)
