If a man does his best, what else is there? Hmm, what to say? I suppose I'm one of those types of people that if you wanna know something about me you'd have to ask, luckily I'm fairly open minded to boot.

I'm curious Mathias, I know it's not relevant to the above question, but I was wondering what you and Stephanie? (the other Dev. partner I assume) where do you and her draw the line when it comes to development areas, such as graphics, programming, sound effects/music, design etc. etc. ?

Hmm, I really like how the ships have such heavy customization, but I'd like to ask is or rather will this be limited to a specific few classes of ship or will all classes have the option of customization?

I'm really liking what you've done with the player color's for ships so far DSSMathias, they stand out enough to indicate the faction they're from without messing around with the overall texture quality.

Though I am curious will there be room on the ships for a custom logo much like the Homeworld series offered while setting up your fleets tags?

Hmm something caught the attention of my curiosity so I have to ask, what part does the "albedo" attribute play?
(doesn't albedo have something to do with light refraction)

Okay if you want me to be more specific then, the texturing, looks to detailed with to much brightly lit areas of what I assume are lights or general markings, giving the illusion that the cruiser is a delicate ship rather than a sturdy ship designed for war, essentially where I'm coming from is the ship looks to fragile and it wouldn't withstand more than a couple of shots to the hull without exploding... Where as a cruiser class ship is designed for war, usually is more robust looking with solid amour plates covering most of the exterior of the ship and very few if not none at all weak spots shown on the outer hull.

Maybe I'm just being picky but I have the strange feeling there's to much attention to detail on the overall mass of the ships structural sections, of course at the moment it's hard to tell when there's not a lot of 3d rendering of light and shadow... or perhaps it's simply the dull grey scale colour that robs the ship of it's might and luster

I believe the question has be already asked & answered already, and I also recall the answer was, the game will work on the full X/Y/Z axis, it's just the Dev's haven't haven't demonstrated it yet, not the easiest feature to show off unless you consider posting lots of pictures or a video...

Looks as though it's coming along nicely, my only criticism is the choice of the music that was used for the video :)

Thank you dssmathias you've covered more or less what I was curious to know about, I myself have a keen interest in 3d model design and was curious to know where I should start off, but if I could ask one more question of you, which would be of all the 3d packages you may of used in your experience which do you favor the easiest to use, from a rookie's point of view that is?

Just a quick question for dssmathias I take it your the 3d modeling designer? If that is so then I wonder if you could share with us what sort of 3D design package you used to make something like this...

Nice detailing I have to say to.

paulnimmo14 - - 29 comments @ Cruiser dual spine crazyness!

Definitely a interesting feature but it gives me pause to question, will this dual spine option come with a bonus to gameplay but at the same time taking a penalty as well?
For example, due to it's overall size and complexity it's mass is causing it to move 20% slower, but as the bonus it has the higher percentage of accuracy with point-defence weaponry?
(simply put what lack in some area it makes up for in another)

Pretty epic ship design I love those extra details that have been added to make it look like a true medium to large class ship, it kind of reminds me of some of the ships from 'Homeworld2' or 'Nexus:the Jupiter Incident' and as for the modular design I don't think it looks to modular (where you can spot the joints between modules segments) I think it blends in nicely to make the overall appearance look an impressive solid ship. Keep up the brilliant work team :)

I've got an odd question if you will bare with me on this one, but I have noticed over the past few video's of in-game footage that the station/settlement seems to be setup inside what looks like to be the inside of a nebula (an area flooded full of light) will this be common when setting up your station or will it vary?
(I thought deep space was devoid of light for the most part)

Curious is that some sort of derelict space craft at the center most of the screenshot?

Sorry my bad I never read the end of the Dev comment "Planetoids will probably end up 4-5 times the size they are shown here."

Ah sorry, I should of mentioned the hexagonal platforms (build spaces)in my question, so basically is the overall maximum size a colony can become limited by finite build space or is it only limited by the the complexity of a colony ie. technologies, optimized building placement...

Quick question though I'm not sure it's been asked before,
Will colonies be limited to overall size or will it based on specific factors?

Looking great, can't wait to see some texturing on those models :)
I was curious about what Cornflakes_91 was mentioning as well, but in a different manner:

Will Cruiser construction be limited in anyway to counter exploitation, like constructing a cruiser with 1 tail, 1 core, 10 spines, 1 nose?

Secondly will there be weapon/turret 'hardpoints' or will turrets be already placed in a preset location over the ship component?

Thank you very much for this demonstration video, true 3D is definitely a thumbs up in my books. (I can't stand space faring games which limit you to a 2D environment of game play, it's just ain't space to me otherwise)

Just a couple of questions that came to mind when watching your latest video:

1- Will combat and units stationary or flying around freely in space be limited to the X/Y axis or will we looking at a 'Homeworld' like approach with X/Y/Z axis

2- The combat going on in the video had me wondering if this will be your average scale of ship-to-base enemy raid (quantity vs quality) in other words is there any balancing been added to the game so far?

Either way keep up the excellent work, and I'll be looking forward to seeing more of this diamond in the rough soon.

Can you explain to me in some detail how you are going to implement a crafting system? or what sort of crafting level will the player be bound by, for example crafting a makeshift knife would require a preset number of items in order to make, instead of the alternate approach with having several preset (blueprints) to make one singular type item?

What sorts of exploitable resources can we expect to see while playing DSS?

And,

Will the tech tree have prerequisites in order to progress up the tech tree?

Very nice and well polished looking game you have made from what I've seen in the vid's and screenshots, I definitely look forward to trying DSS out, as soon as it's available. Keep up the fine work...
