Hai Guys!

First Ihave to apologies for the long time it’s been since I’ve made my last post!

I can seethat quite some people have been visiting my site to look for updates, and I’m sorry to have let you all down.

But now youwill have to wait no longer, ‘cause here is my new post – a review of Empire: Total War.

I know thatI have previously been reviewing mods and games found here on Desura, which has
made it all very easy for you to be able to get the mods yourself, but the games that I’ve been playing on Desura are actually limited to Mount&Blade and Mount&Blade: Warband. Therefore I have decided to expand my horizon to some other games out there.

I have long been a big – massive – fan of the Total War-series, and therefore I thought that their games might be a good place to start, and with a game time at 250+ hours, Empire: Total War was a good place to start.

For those who do not know how the Total War-series are I’ll just give you a quick intro.

Those who are familiar with the games can just skip down to the actual review;

Intro:

The Total War-series are a realistic turn based strategy-games. Set in different eras and locations ranging from The Roman Empire, through Medieval Europe and 16th century Japan. You can choose between a large variety of factions to play, and you primary goal is to rule a certain amount of provinces and areas before a specific time. The series let you control the battles that you encounter; controlling you men as an on-field general would do it. This gives you a great sense of control of the game, being through the economy as well as the military.

Actual review:

So here we go!

The game is the fifth game in the series, not counting expansion packs, and is set, primarily in Europe in the 18th century. You start out with choosing between a wide list of factions, including Great Britain, France, Prussia (Germany), Russia and The Ottoman Empire as well as The Maratha Confederacy in India. From here on you are able to change the destiny of European history. The game features a large range of different troops and special units.

The game follows the series in the way it should, and I would encourage you to try them out. Bear in mind that Empire, was released in 2009 and many other games before that, so graphics can be found out there, but the game experience speaks for itself, let alone the time that can be spent in-game. You can easily play
the same nation more than once and will never really have the same playthrough. There are a ton of in-game possibilities. This could be missions, e.g. that you would have to take a specific province or city. It could be historical events, the steam pump being invented or the birth of a nation – The United States of
America.

A major aspect that has been brought into Empire, that is different form many of the previous games, is the aspect of trade. Trade has been there before, but as seen in history, trade has a great importance in the European economy in the 18th century. You are able to trade across the globe, from America to India to the
straights of Madagascar, and there is a great bit of money to be made on being the biggest supplier of a specific resource. And money has a great importance in the world.

Another major change made from the previous games, is the way that battles are fought. A new invention has been made in the world, the gun. Gunpowder has been the most efficient way of killing another man, and infantry is no longer a man carrying a sword, he is a man with a musket. This is, in my opinion a great step forward, and a setback.

The good thing would be that the game has moved into a new era. New challenges are made through the way armies fight. Numbers are no long the factor that wins a fight and the winner is the one with the biggest and best gun. This is a fun thing to play around with. But the setback might be the same thing. Being able to kill of thousands of Indians in America with only a handful of rangers might seem fun at first, but the challenges are smaller. It is a lot easier to win battles, and there is not always the same amount of tactics in a battle, when you are simply able to shoot you’re able to shoot the enemy before they get close to you. I fell that this takes a bit of the strategy out of the game.

But even though I feel that a bit of the strategy has gone out of this strategy game, there is still a great fun in the game and many hours can easily be put into it. And I wouldn’t be writing this long a review about the game if I didn’t like it.

The game brings a lot of new things to the game and that is a great feature and it is defiantly worth looking into.

There are several DLC packs with new units and even an expansion pack, giving you the opportunity to play as the Indian tribes in America. All this simply ads to the experience of the game.

The game scores high on my list of all-time favorite games. You should bear in mind that being a fan of strategy games is a big plus, but if you put a bit of heart into the game it will carry you a long way.

I highly recommend the game, and it is almost a guaranteed satisfaction, so go get it.

Hi again everyone!

First of all, sorry for the long wait! Just had some things going on im my life, which has held me from the gaming latly! Secondly, i must admit, I've been caought in the Star Wars: The Old Republic wave!

But now I'm here again, and I'll give you the long waited mod for Mount&Blade: Warband! That's right, it the Game of Thrones Mod, its called the Clash of Kings!

The mod takes place in the Seven Kingdoms, as seen in the series - and as read in the books. The story of the mod takes place in second book - war has broken out, and chaos is in the land! This might be bad, but it gives you enemies to kill - which we will refer to as a good thing!

The mod has redefined the original Mount&Blade: Warband, with a whole new map, which has all the major cities including a lot of the minor ones. It has captured the elments of all the Seven Kingdoms in a very unike way, which ads nice to the game experiance!

The are all new factions, including; The House of Stark and The House of Lannister - so theres bound to be war for a long time! (You'll know if you've read the book or seen the series, if not; then read/watch now!)
The NPC's and the soldiers of the game have all been given a face lift, so you can hire real men and weman of the Seven Kingdoms - sooo cool!

Even though the game has some cool aspects, there are som problems. Some of them minor - but one of the major ones, is a problem with your starting position! If you e.g. chose to start in Winterfell - as I did, cause i like the Stark's - but choosing The North, Winterfell, I instead started in another major city, acros the Narrow sea?! (Thats quite a ride away!)
So there are still some minor details in the game that has to be looked at before i will grant it a top rating.

But as i have said with many of the previous mods i have reviewed in this game - a thing that has almost become a habit with my reviews - the game is not yet completly developed! There are still some things missing, and therefore i not going to be all that hard on the problems of the game - hopefully there will be some fixed later on in the developement fase!

So all in all, the game is pretty good, 'cause even though you start a different place, you will still be able to enjoy the games new world, soldier and much much more!

The mod is, unfortunatley not avaliable on Desura, so I'll give you a link to the site where you can read more about the mod, and there are links to where you can download the mod; so fell free to look it up!
Here you go: Forums.taleworlds.com

Next week I haven't decided what to review yet! I have'nt got a new mod - so maybe I'll just review Star Wars: The Old Republic - even though this is not a Desura game?
But if you fell that you have game or mod that i should review or test - please, thrown a commet to me with detail of where i can get the game or mod, and I'll figure it out :)

Remember - new review every Monday! :)

So until next time!

Hi Guys, and welcome back!

This week I’ve been testing Mount&Blade: Warband mod, Brytenwalda!

The game is set in 6th-7th century Britain. Here you can chose to start as various factions, each with two starting positions - choose between Roman, Briton, Irish, Saxon and more! The mod has completely remodeled the map, as well as all the faction and NPC's! They have added hundreds of new item (might be 1000), as well as soldier, companions and even new formations to put your army in!

Last week i reviewed the mod Europe 1200, and told you about a massive campaign map. The map in this game is not as big - might be actually be the same size as the original Mount&Blade: Warband - but it feels huge! It has good detail on many of the cities, where they laid and their names. Amazing!

The game captures the different cultures greatly and even has a religious factor! Everything plays nicely together and it seems great. As it was with Europe 1200, the Brytenwalda is not completely developed yet, but they have done an amazing thing to the game. Another thing is that with some extra modules, you can make every battle a multiplayer battle, even when you’re playing in single player mode! Cool! The mod also brings on a lot of new options to the game, including, realistic-mode, shield bash, mood options and GORE! LET THE BLOOD RAIN! All options you can either turn on or off - according what you like :)

The game does not have any major bugs that i have found in my weeks test - but as said it hasn't been fully developed yet, so be patient :) I can only criticize it for being hard - the AI has gotten a facelift - which is actually a good thing - since the AI in Mount&Blade: Warband where a bit easy to kill - even whit the difficulty passed 85% So that’s an improvement - even though they become pretty good now! But you'll quickly get the hang of it :)! Also your soldier seem to need a lot of exp before they level up (does not include companions), which makes a bit of a bummer; since you might loose half of your men before they make it to level two? All in all the game is great, and could easily survive a stand-off with many of the other mods out there! so go check out their forum on TaleWorlds LINK: Forums.taleworlds.com

And hope you enjoy this truly awesome mod!

Hope you enjoyed my blog, and please comment if you feel like sharing
anything :)

Next week I’ll review the mod A Clash of Kings - the all new Game of Thrones Mod! So look forward to that!

Remember - new review every Monday! :)

Hello again, Desura! (And people online)

So i have been absent in some time now, but i'm back again after been doing some stuff on PS3 & PSN :D
So i might just get back in the game of posting some new things about games and mods!
Even though i have already posted one blog on the mod "Europe 1200" for Mount&Blade: Warband, i'll just get a new one out there, since the game has added new features since my last post :D

Europe 1200 modifeies the 2010 Hit-Game, Mount&Blade: Warband.
The game has completly changes the game layout, from the mythical Calradia, and turned it into 13'th century Europe (in the year 1200 AD). The map has been custom formed as Europe in 1200 AD (Primaraly as it looks today), with major and minor citys in very sharp detail. Includes Brittania, Italie, Scandinavia (w. Denmark!), Iberia all including different countries and factions!
The NPC's of the game are historical correct, aswell as their soldier, including weapons and banners. All being more or less historically correct!
The game has great detail in every aspect - something you can really hours on getting in to it!

A problem with the game, might be this very high level of detail in the mod. The game map is very big! Massive - being the fact that it covers all of europe. This means that there are a lot of factions, and there-by also a lot of vasals and lords might give a bit of a bore, needing to scroll through a lot of people.

All in all, i feel that the game gives a good view of 1200AD Europe, with all the aspects that is brought to it through a First Person, RolePlayingGame, with the aspect of war and medievalness. You get the same feel that you have in Mount&Blade: Warband, of controling your armies, and becoming more known in the world - this time in Europe!

A thing to keep in mind, is that the mod is not completly developed yet, so any minor bugs that might be found in the mod, can (and will proberbly) be fixed. Also more aspects, in form of new factions, are stille being added to the mod!

I Hope you enjoyed this blog - please comment on anything you find, and if you want me to make a review of a game you like/dislike, then i'll se what i can do! :D

So until next time!
Keep Moding! Keep Gaming!
