Playing ZM along with empires 2 was the best time I got on source engine. Still remember glorious cover player, who open doors with torch on Londons underground. Or trying to survive with few others in lighthouse.
ZM2 can bring it back. If code is done, more content can come later.

You could lower chase chance even more, since there is no fix for evil respawn. Also, you could open forum for mod on moddb, for sugestions and faq.
Fix respawn time (not only chackpoints, but locations too) and reinstalling far cry 2 right now!

But you could generate normals from texture, should do the trick.
Probably noob question, but why you bother with high poly model instead making low from start? Isn't it easier to make low poly models?
