So it is a bad thing that you will next year be competing in the full MOTY awards??? Where high quality, thematic total conversions have an edge?
Also, you do have a right to be bummed. You and forty-three other teams. But you don't have a right to call mods you lost to subpar, accuse them of cheating, or otherwise try to undermine their integrity. Also, as the post below shows, thr JB team made their kwn efforts on their own front. Black Messa has thousands of watchers here and is based on a cult status game. Enderal is made by the most veteran and respected team in the Elder Scrolls modding community. I Am The King apparently has a good following and rep in the French community (as Le Roy C'est Moi), I have seen the Vietnam one; it's quality and does seem to have a healthy following. So I don't see what you are trying to say; these winners don't look like they would need to cheat to win. Their advertising just clicked.
Yep. That's why I read all buried posts. Just scroll up and click view.
This information could have been better laid out. But from what TKAzA's words, the system seems exactly the same as last time.
I also agree that it could be great if they released the full list of placements for Upcoming and Released mods. After the full competition of course. And Top Upcoming could be Top 10 instead of Top 5. That could help since a lot of these popular mods probably missed top 5 by a few votes.
Actually, that info I just state was given at the top of this very page of comments by TKAzA, one of the Moddb authorities on this event. However, karma spammers have buried the post. He has tried to provide explanation while simultaneously not making it possible to skirt the system. The statement that Moddb has been totally silent is not true.
And MOTY has been at Christmas since 2010. Moddb.com Moddb.com Moddb.com
Rating is about daily views. Spikes can happen due to numerous factors; happened to us at MERP while we were in development quite often. People trying to guess updates or you introduce your mod to a new site. These spikes can drive your mod to the top 100. And you can get spikes like that but not more watchers or, in this case, more votes. Just depends on who those viewers are and what your mod is.
Since the votes are weighted, the numbers won't be representative. For example, if guest votes count as .5 votes a piece, then a mod might have 5000 votes but only tally as 2500 if they are all guest.
Lastly, you do have to concede that mods can win, especially in the less-voted-on Upcoming category, that are not as mainstream or veteran as others. And as I pointed out earlier, lots of mods have their primary community outside Moddb, but use Moddb as a sort of promo hub to branch out into a wider demographic, especially during MOTY, which is a very prestigious award competition. Watchers are usually voters, if they are active. But there were tens of thousands of votes, locked in votes won't win it. Votes from outside the community and peruser votes are what push mods to win. And I know that some of these mods, I Am The King in particular but also SureAI, have significant presences outside Moddb that they can draw on for these votes.
Just keep an open mind to other explanations before accusing the site or the mod teams of cheating. If accusations are your first route, it will cause tension and strife and can do more harm to all, yourself included, than good.
Well, to be fair, I would hardly say TKAzA has been silent and he is one of the Moddb managers. He provided an explanation, it's just buried now.
Also, some of this could very well be that votes were absorbed by other projects. Happens in the full MOTY Awards for released mods, with projects like TATW and such getting sizable vote numbers even though, unless they win, they can't possibly place. (And others can't place at all due to having already won). Not saying SotP shouldn't promote; they should. However, when very large chunks of the votes go to large, very popular projects that then get honorables, it could account for some of the more unusual placers.
I would just say do more research than just the number of Moddb watchers before making accusations. Many of these mods promote and have sizable presences elsewhere. You don't want to give a mod that one fairly a black eye when they don't deserve it, especially in the Upcoming category; they really do need the exposure and support.
Well, SureAI has been here a long time. Arktwend, Cube Experimental, Nehrim, and Enderal are all hosted here and have been for years. In fact, I don't know if Nehrim is available on Nexus. So Enderal being here is not shocking; it was in here last year and Nehrim won Editor's choice some time ago.
I Am The King is a primarily French project with a sizable presence in the French TES community. They did make a push for MOTY over there, but you wouldn't find it easily since they are known as Le Roy C'est Moi in that community. So they probably got a lot of votes from over there.
Also, Nexus is a community for projects either released or in beta. Can't really have a presence there if you don't have a release to show.
Keep in mind, these awards have a lot of prestige within modding. This site is a hub for all modding and gets your recognition beyond your target demographic, therefore expanding your fanbase beyond your normal bounds (Nexus (all of the sites), for example, is restricted to a specific game's fanbase). So it should be expected a lot of mods will push for these awards while being dormant during the year. Think of them as you will for that practice.
I would like to apologize, in particular to STA3 and SotP teams, for letting my aggression get the better of me. Understand it isn't anything personal; both projects look extremely well done. And it's not because I care particularly about Moddb's reputation specifically (no offense Moddb). I primarily care about the mods; in development mods need exposure and many ambitious mods struggle. I just don't want these top five getting black eyes they don't deserve; that could really hurt them. And I know what it is like being with a mod struggling for exposure.
I would encourage us all to take a step back and breath. These awards are about celebrating the hard work of modders. Are peer voted competitions perfect? No. Will the winners always be the objective "best?" No. But these are quality mods in this top 5. Personally, I feel that should be the focus of these awards.
That could help, maybe. Though some may still say bots. However, some mods on this site have foreign communities or are primarily on foreign communities. So some mods might get a lot of votes despite having a small presence here. These awards are pretty prestigious in the modding scene, since this site is a hub for all modding. That is why Moddb encourages spreading your rep on multiple sites.
I know and it would appear that the group behind most of it (it appears to be two teams and a few of their followers) are just karma spamming any and all detractors to bury their comments. And they think ModDB are part of a conspiracy.
So Moddb offers explanations and they get karma spam. You say you have proof. I ask for something - anything - to back your rage besides you losing and get no information at all. But I do get karma spam. Honestly, not bolstering my confidence.
If there's info post it. If it is legit, I would back you up. But a lot of these awards are about honoring mods and getting them support. ESPECIALLY the upcoming. SO I am not going to jump on the bandwagon and discredit their wins and trash the awards without proof. Send it to me in pm or something whatever. But you'll pardon me for not taking your word on it given your potential bias and well the karma spam
Uhm. Dude, have you looked at these pages? It's been SotP and STA3 teams trying at every turn to discredit the wins of these teams in the Top 5. You have been talking like completely entitled pricks, insisting if you don't get top 2 there must be rigging.
Will you quit your damn bitching! Geez any other site and you'd would be banned. You two don't give a rat's *** about fairness. This is about your mods (Sins of the Prophets and Star Trek: Armada 3) not placing. If you would read though, you would know that SotP would have had to win to get more than an honorable (must place higher than last time). As for STA3, sorry you didn't win, but undercutting and discrediting other mods' wins doesn't make you winners. It makes you dicks.
Wow bots really? This is ridiculous. The Skyrim mods come from an enormous and flourishing community and those two are well known for their quality. Shoot, Enderal is made by one of the most veteran and skilled teams in the community. Trust me, SureAI doesn't need bots to get up there. As for some of the others, I can't be entirely sure. But one is related to Half Life sooooooooo...yeah. Seriously, I thought Moddb would be a bit more mature as a community. This is about celebrating great mods and there are some great mods up there. Moddb is a hub for all modding. So what is the issue?
All of SureAI's mods are on Moddb. In fact I think they might only be here. I Am The King is well known in the general TES community and that's where it got the votes. But it is high quality so it's not like crappy mods are winning. Just not YOUR mod which, let's be honest here, is what this is really about: whatever mod you wanted to win didn't and now you're ******.
Oh just shut up you sore loser. SureAI are veterans who have made three highly praised total conversions going back to Morrowind, winning MOTY Editor's Choice and placing high in Player's Choice with Nehrim. I normally don't trash talk other devs but frankly you are just being a ****. If your watchers and viewers didn't vote for you, you clearly didn't impress or promote enough. You might have made top 10 though, but unfortunately they onlyshow top 5. However, if you make it a habbit of accusing fellow devs of cheating, it's no wonder you don't get the votes to win.
Cradle is very promising and of course M&B is here. The others look quality but honestly notvas interesting in my eyes. Also, why do you do Top 5 Upcoming but Top 10 IOTY? I feel both players choice sets should be Top10. I mean, the upcoming indies really do need the exposure to stay on their feet.
The awards are announced periodically over the course of the next several days, ending on Christmas with the Mod of the Year/Indie of the Year Awards (I think that it is either the Player's Choice or Editor's Choice that goes last; not sure). So you will see other awards like "best upcoming" and "best art direction" etc first. I think.
Awesome! I didn't think that the trailer looked 2.5D :P . This game has a lot of potential imo
Sweet. Skyrim mods FTW
Holy crap...all three big upcoming Skyrim mods are in the top ten most popular list right now :O . Awesome!
"But I am different from the others! I will create a better world than any that came before me!"
[insert obligatory disclaimer here]
Actually, correction to what I previously said. The enhancements and the ones to follow are thanks to Barbas.
Not usually a mecha game nut but this looks pretty awesome. Tracking. I am currently penniless (ok, I might have some pennies somewhere...but anyway), but I hope you manage to get more than enough (Oculus Rift support would be amazing). I'll see if anyone else at Epoch Games would ne interested in tracking or backing. As part of a fledgling indie dev (and a long member of an ambitious mod team) team, I know the kind of crazy hard work that goes into what you do. Good luck!
Shoot, lets put as many Skyrim mods as we can in the top 5! This mod and the other two in the Upcomin lineup both deserve it!
And keep up the awesome work, SureAI ;)
We will put updates out as often as we can. However, not all aspects of development lend themselves to screenshots and video :P . However, when we have good things to show, we'll show them. Within reason of course; we don't want to spoil everything ;)
A huge shout out from us at Epoch Games to everyone who voted to get Lays of Althas: Sundered Order in the Top 100 in its first ever IOTY competition! You've shown a lot of confidence in us early on and we are going to strive not to let you down! :)
*whatsoever to do with Skyrim
First, Althas isn't a mod so it has nothing whatsoever to do with Althas. Second, you are not representative of everyone on this page; it burns me when fans try to say they are representative of everyone. Third, the news post is an accident, not intentional.
