Hi! I'm a modder/gamedev from Finland and I do mods for 2D sidescrolling games because theyre my favorite. Particulary Soldat and Cortex Command. During my time with modding I've become a very good at spriting and learned alot of game developing while working on mods. All my mods are made by me alone with occasional help from various people and communities. Recently I also joined the development team of Cortex Command when Data (Daniel Tabar) asked me to work on official content for the game. So now I'm making and modding the same game ironically. : p I interest in action/adventure/scifi games/genres and I totally love mechs. Theres nothing more awesome than a walking tank with gigantic weapons. My aim at making games is to maximize the gameplay fun and make things as epic as possible.

Recently I've been playing the Postal fudge pack that is absolutely badass and fun to play.
And while playing the apocalypse weekend expansion, it featured some of the most badass zombies I've ever seen. And inspired by these zombies, I made my own edition of them.
This is a standalone mini mod featuring a lot of detail.

Postal Zombies! ';,,,;'

These zombie come armed with a chainsaw, have heavy gore effects that were ported and improved from the BW merc's gore systems, their faces animate and are very live thanks to the large sound library dedicated for their every action, including swearing.

As a bonus, I even made a video featuring postal zombies fighting the zombie cave mission!Zombies Vs. Zombies. Bizarre twist. : D

I decided to play some cortex command and got the fan made Astro mission. After starting it up, I suddenly got this dumb and daring idea of beating it with only the brainbot I start with. And I also felt like recording it and so I did. Beat it on my first time during the recording, no guns were used and nothing else was ordered from space.

Btw, I suppose this is a good example how retarded the AI can be right now. I hope it gets a bit more better later on... : S

Report abuse Roller R2 vehicle video!

Heres a small video of the Roller R2 vehicle from Ballistic Weapons: Mercenaries.

As you can see, this thing is very powerful and heavily armored. It has a large machine gun to put holes in things and its sheer mass is enough to crush most units like a large boulder. It has the ability to jump and force itself down, making it a very manouverable vehicle.

VEHICLES!

Ballistic Weapons: Mercenaries just got itself some new super fun toys! Vehicles infact.

Vehicles!

One thing I've really loved in many games where you were able to control your character as a smart guy capable of operating things bigger than you are. These include bikes, tanks, cars, craft and mechs plus what not. It just felt great to hop in a vehicle with your guy and then instantly you become much stronger and a whole different entity. You were able to take the sky, drive over people or simply get a massive gun and tons of armor. And another cool thing about vehicles is that you can get in/out any moment you want. So you fly with a helicopter on top of a tall building, park your copter, get out, eat a snack while enjoying the cool view and then go back to the copter and fly away.

Inspired by all that, I made some vehicles. These allow you to hop in and out whenever you wish and then drive them around and cause massive chaos. So far I have 3 vehicles. This collection might grow later to include other vehicles such as a helicopter or a mech.

Cruise Missile away!!!

The first is the one you might have seen earlier in the news, the F45 VTOL Jet Fighter. It comes loaded with 2 weapons, a heavy machine gun and a cruise missile launcher. It can switch between VTOL flight and Jet flight at will and will fly you anywhere you want with great speed.

ROADKILL

Then come the 2 others. Rollers.

These massive wheels of doom with guns are the perfect ground vehicles for Cortex Command.Started as an attempt to make a jeep, I was unable to create a script to make the vehicle work properly and it also had numerous problems that were making it nasty to work properly in CC in anyway. So instead of a car, I took just the wheel and made it spin. The result was AWESOME.

The experiment turned out 2 versions. The first is a small and fast attack roller that can get your soldier nearly anywhere and fast and it is compact enough to drive inside tight bunkers and navigate inside it! I managed to finish the Dummy Assault mission using only the roller by driving over anyone in the way and rolling all the way to the Dummy controller at the end.

All Terrain Attack Wheelicle : D
The other one was my desire for a larger version that would act like a massive rolling tank of death, crushing anything in its way and filling stuff with holes using a .50 caliber machine gun.The big one acts like a tank while the small one is more faster like an attack bike.

The vehicles perform flawlessly ingame and are ridiculously fun to use. Especially for ramming over people and causing massive roadkill and vehicular genocide.

HEAVY MACHINE GUN!

Thats all for now, stay tuned for the next post!

I think I might start posting here my progress more frequently here in short/long blog posts with pictures and even videos since I managed to get fraps working for Cortex Command, woot!

All it needed, was a clean installation in program files instead of being dragged to a usb flash drive. :P

AAL Pilots posing

Anyways. Lots of progress has been done in many fronts.
AAL, BW and ERA.ERA: Eradication Wars 7 was released some time ago with some new stuff and a good cleanup and a more fresh and sleeker look.I'm very satisfied with for another good long period for now, so that will remain like that. One thing that might be coming eventually is an overhauled map pack I had done eons ago.I still have it and its cool visually, but it has lots of things I would want to fix and redo.Mainly the gameplay on some maps are crap or they are too big, or are just constructed wrong. So when I get striked by inspiration, I'll start Polyworks for some pimping up those maps.

ERA Laser shot

However, my main focus is on BW and AAL now. Both Cortex Command mods.

AAL Gather up

AAL, or Alteisen Arsenal Labs, has gotten a massive overhaul and I've added and removed some things from it. After playing lots with the latest released version of AAL, the gameplay sucked and didnt feel right. So I sat down and analyzed what the hell was going on and I rounded up the things I hated about the mod and did something to it.

Eat this!

Heres what I removed: Slayer unit, Reaper jet, Orange pilot, Cargo rocket and many useless bunker blocks.

And heres why: Slayer was clumsy as hell and its weapons were uninspired and overpowered and they weren't even that fun to use, except the giant shoulder cannon, that one rocks but had some problems. Reaper was too hard to control and just didnt fit with the game too well and on top of that a certain game engine thing made it risky to use since if you would fly it upside down for too long, you will auto-destruct instantly. Not cool. Orange pilot was ugly and his gun sucked, so gtfo him. Cargo rocket was too clumsy and too fragile for its own good and it did not work too well as anything else than a giant heat bomb with thrusters. Expensive one too.And finally the bunker blocks. Specifically the many 1x1 blocks that were used to build whole bases. The whole concept sucked since it took way too long to build the bunker right with those blocks and it was just pointless besides style in the end.

Creeping death machine

Now don't worry, heres whats new: Red pilot + new shotgun, Vacuum bomb, Ragnaros Space Destroyer, Supply Furnace, Redone bunker modules, Supply kits for units and total re-balance of weapons. They all are now: Fast. Efficient. POWERFUL and more fun.

Blasted.

The red pilot is a blast from the past from the 2nd version of the mod (3rd is the latest released one). He had a shotgun, a digger and some bombs. Now he's back and badass as before. With a new custom shotgun, some grenades and a special digger makes him a very swift and deadly unit.

Vacuum bomb is remotely controlled flying bomb. Whats so fun about it is that you can do various attack with it: Fly at something near and detonate it to send a powerful kinetic blast. Or, suck the victim inside and fly around with it collecting as much as stuff as possible and THEN detonating the bomb. Its very spectacular when you collect 50+ enemies, guns and bomb and then detonate the vacuum bomb to send it all flying all over the place.

Ragnaros is large spaceship. And its in space and acts like an orbital weapons platform. Like a power of gods. It is the ULTIMATE SUPER WEAPON. Whats so interesting about it as that you control the weapon systems of the ship in a form of a crosshair around the map. You may fly that crosshair anywhere in the map and then choose from 3 different attacks depending what you need. Its like a tactical all-in-one super weapon that allows for dealing with nearly all situations on the field. Need to melt a hole in the bunker or perharps you need a bottomless pit better? Use the massive laser. A massive army gathering up near you bunker? Blow em up with massive bombardment. Just erase the whole map? Fire the final nuke. It has it all and its spectacular.

Supply furnace is new source of income. In cortex command you can gain gold in 2 ways: Mine gold, salvage and load unused equipment/units back to space via craft. Instead of ordering a rocket to grab your guns, you can deliver them to a furnace to burn them for cash. You'll get the money instantly and no hassle or worry with getting a craft to pick all the stuff away which is very risky during battle. Another feature of the furnace are power block that you order from space and throw them into the furnace and they will burn them slowly and generate gold each second which allows you to do a small run to make money make itself while you fight and just supply a power block every now and then to keep getting money. This system works exceptionally well and also encourages you to move around in your base to deliver the blocks/loose equipment.

Supply kits are suitcases that include ready packs of equipment for specific units to use to save time and have everything ready much faster. The AAL Marine are now completely based on these.

AAL Base teaser

That all for now, I'll continue about BW in the next blog post, stay tuned!

You might have played or heard of the Ballistic Weapons mod for Unreal Tournament 2004?
No? Well you really should if you have a copy of UT2k4... or hell, just go take a look what a godlike mod it is! Its about ballistic weapons as the name implies and the detail of the stuff and the richness in features is simply unreal.

Preview on the current BW:Mercs status.

Well anyways, I'm working on porting it over to an indie game called Cortex Command. Its a physics based action/strategy game with completely destroyable terrain with very detailed physics.
Its like a combo of liero, worms, rts and soldat all blended together.
check it out at this page:

Cortex Command

As I said, I'm creating a mod based on a mod and my goal is to bring the feel, design and gameplay of Ballistic Weapons to Cortex Command, but with a twist. The mod will not only add a whole new faction to play with, but also implement tournament style gameplay to CC. By that I mean Deathmatch, Capture the flag and such. Apart from the original content of Ballistic Weapons, I'll also expand it with some new content and features.

Then on top of that, the mod will feature +20 maps specifically designed for arena gameplay and a whole lot of terrains and even a system for building your own detailed arenas with little effort!

I'll be uploading more pictures here and make an entry for the mod,
and meanwhile if you want to see the progress of the mod, check the following link
on DRL Fan Forums
, I visit it almost daily and sometimes post pictures of ingame screenshots.

So far the entire forum is drooling for this mod and alot of people have been signed up for betatesting that will take place as soon as the new build of Cortex Command will be released!
