Actually, recoil does seem a bit high on the 7,62 AKs. I'd have to try for myself though. With rifles that kick a fair bit I'd certainly consider carrying a SMG for a while like I did in LURK.

It's a .50 revolver. Its shells come in ball, AP and shot. I think I've already seen it mentioned in the context of STALKER, whether a mod included it or something, so you might be able to get your hands on a model and animations.

If I may, standard ammo shouldn't be nearly as effective as AP stuff against heavily amored foes. I've played a few stalker mods and I don't recall any making enough of a difference between ammo types. If it penetrates it should make a good deal of damage, if not damage should be minimal.
Also, the difference between AP and ball ammo in terms of damage should be more accentuated for small, fast calibers that rely on fragmentation such as 5.56, as a steel core tends to stay together and inflict less severe wounds.

I have Windows Vista and all I could achieve trying to mod GTA IV was breaking my installation of the game, having to download the bad files over and over again. Even if I could manage to mod it in the end, which anyway wasn't, you shouldn't ever have to go through half of the trouble I had just to modify the game to my own liking. You weren't supposed to mod IV, it's just workarounds people found. I hope this clarifies my position as stated on Iciris' profile.

Isn't it sad how this seems to be the going trend, releasing games which are impossible to mod? What do you think about it? I recently bought GTA IV, an otherwise awesome game but that you just can't mod. Are they trying to draw more people to consoles?

Great news! Sorry if I insist, but couldn't you borrow some models from other mods? I'm thinking of Arsenal or LURK, both mods implemented models and skins of great quality. Replacements for vanilla weapons accurate to the real world counterparts would only contribute to the realistic feel of RCOM and of course to realizing a highly polished product.
Again, sorry if I'm being annoying but this mod is turning out great and I'd gladly wait a bit more for the release if it meant even more detail.

AK74 ejecting spent bullet cases on the left, directly in the face of the user: That's not very realistic. Also it could be a matter of preference, but I don't like the style nor the quality of some default weapon skins and models. For example, the AK74 could get a black skin ( World.guns.ru ), which better represents rifles in service at the moment in the Russian army (don't know about the Ukrainian army but it would still be more plausible than the futuristic looking vanilla one).
Can't wait for the update either. Can't remember if I already asked, but here it goes: Are you planning to replace some of the default weapon models, especially the "mirrored" vanilla ones?
Just thought I'd share this minor thing related to how bandits are portrayed in STALKER. En.wikipedia.org
You can see there's some sense with bandits being a faction. While casual loners might very well engage in occasional robbery and murder to support themselves, bandits as a faction might not have to go.

Realistic... And balanced? What does that mean? Balanced through map design or by, for example, nerfing the most effective weapons? And realistic to which degree? Will injuries effectively limit your movement capabilities, or affect your aim at all? Will there be free-aim (like in ArmA, RO etc.)? You know, I'm yet to find a game apart from the OFP-ARMA franchise that would simulate infantry combat in an even half-decent way. I hope you're going to do it right guys.
