I've recently researched and written an article regarding copyright infringement as it applies to modding (and, briefly, the legal repercussions of hosting copyright-infringing materials). I completed it with the input of several lawyers and a professional game designer.
I realize that the "soapbox" feature's establishment is probably not coincidental with the "IP in mods" debate and that the article may seem a good candidate for inclusion in the "soapbox" feature. However, as the article contains a much higher ratio of legal citation than opinion (it contains a singular conclusion that is the reflection of a multitude of statutes and legal precedents), putting it in an oped feature would tend to undermine the amount of research and professional input it includes. As a result I would only be willing to let it run as a feature.
I'm sure the staff and users of moddb.com are just as concerned as I am about the survivability of modding. Hopefully, understanding the legal repercussions of making and distributing copyright infringing materials will result in change for the better and help to ensure the survivability of modding for years to come.

Thanks for your time and consideration and I hope to see the article featured soon.
Sincerely,

do you know ne 3d modellers that would be interested in doing some british and canadian content for our mod mate?
i think they did ok finanicially but it wasnt a hl2 or a halo...clearly. Part of the issue is the community is full of erm how should i say "strong personalities" who dont like new players or people who dont share their views so they drive people out.
Egames.de
there's the link, they contacted me out of the blue which was nice of them... and don't worry about the country music comment im not a big fan either lol. I know what ur saying bout getting coding support for DcD we could desperately use a few more dedicated people. the thing is the RO community is dwindling and we really need to get this mod out by early feb or early march at the latest. Bit of a pain in the ass really.
wow congrats on the the TV thing, btw check out www.egames.de you'll see a link to a mod interview with me on there :D
meh i think she's just going to be sociable. so whens the next DCD update?
nah its just me and the gf atm...but we've been together a very long time. Hows asia treating you anyway? ...gah she wants me to line dancing with her on thursday (some new people she met invited her)...hmm to go or not to go that is the question.
Gday! Happy new year dude!
I just moved back to the US, and bought my gf along with me, currently we're getting her through college together so i need a stable job that pays a set amount a year. The job in the industry was for a small company that would have meant a pay cut, a long distance move and the work would have meant i would have only got hired (Even though i would have to have been doing work for 2 months) only if the company in question was awarded a big contract. Sometimes i have to think level headidly about things and i had to put my family first. I'm still looking for another job with a better company that pays well and once I get my mod out we'll see where things go..
u 2 matey
