I'll probably save your life one day...
Good one, one of the few engines which seem capable of this.
Nah, his name is Claude Speed.
Another winner. Is that dynamic shadowing? Wraiyth, is it?
Dude, I'm not the guy who runs the mod, I'm just a forum moderator. Try finding the people who run the mod.
The Gyanon Sexbows more like. :D
I think my love for KKND2 eclipses my hate for remakes.
Hey, good to have you guys around. Would you mind doing an interview sometime?
Good stuff! Shotgun review!
Bravery is not a function of firepower. Right, Paul?
So, so sexy.
Beuno Mafioso! Io parlo Italiano.
Great to see some updates!
Why would there be crates there?
Fair enough, too. Good luck.
Nice to be politcally correct. X)
Looks like fun. I'll show my flatmate's boyfriend. He loves D2.
My gosh, that's amazing! OH WAIT, IT'S ALSO ILLEGAL COPYRIGHT VIOLATION!
The minerals look hot, if a little tiberium-esque.
Yay! I got a mention in an awesome newspost. Thanks also to Ippo and Joe for the award, but congratulations to you guys. I can't wait for the standalone. I'll PM you guys about preview/review possibilities, if you're interested. Cheers.
Creepy. I LIKE!
I love it, evcen the PC version.
Sweetness. SWEETNESS! :O
I like the models.
Looking amazing! I like it a LOT!!
Tamriel Rebuilt looks awesome!
It is with some tristese I read this post.
Damn amazing. New ingame shots look awesome.
Hmm.. a lurker.0_o
I can't believe it took me this long to find HL2: Co-op. After so long searching, too.
Your art is very nice. Expect a PM from me at a later date. I love being cryptic.XD
Vey nice looking.
I'll check it out.
Just like to say I agree with you to a certain extent about Half-Life 2. I mean, it's a great game, fun and has a great storyline (albiet with terrible characterisation), but I'm shocked about how worshiped VALVe are at the moment.
I'm glad you guys are getting published, and I'm glad it's for free. Good on you!
I can't believe you liked Riddick so much. Got mediocre?
Good stuff. I'm gonna buy the battlechest soon, so I might do a review on this baby.
Lots of fun. I recommend people get in there, the community is very welcoming. :D
That's just the skybox. The rest is, well, black.
Holy feckin' jeebus! They be some impressive screens.
^^You're right dude. The models and art look greap for the engine.
Innovative crash protection. I like it.
Too bright. Apart from that, it looks nice.
MAN TITTIES! Chicks can't kill zombies, it's fact. Either way, a damn hot wallpaper. The shadows are mighty fine.
Umm.. I guess so. I don't run the forums though. Try asking ShortCutMan, he is the king of the forums.
Looking good, a nice TA based spamfest!XD
OMG I  j00!
Yeah, apparently the metrocop holds the baton better, so I might update it with that. However, that rebel chick is just fecking retarded. I'll try to find a rebel-esque person that can actually hold a freaking baton. I only saw the lameness after the upload.XD
I'd love to see that image in high-res.
Nice concept! I think it actually gives more options that Deus Ex's HUD, without being cluttered.
I just wanna say I love your siganture. It's all like "Soylent Green is people!!!" and WTFSTUNOOB!!!11
Just a note to kcorb, the purpose of a review isn't to bring more people to the review's subject, it's to guage the good and bad sides of the subject, so that consumers can make an educated decision before consuming it.
I ain't seen any evidence of that claim. However, I'm waiting. And I'm hoping. God damn, I'm hoping.
It's god! OMFG, run for cover!!1
How are you a mod member, and not part of any mods? OMFG MODDB STUFF UP!XD
Looks great. Blender needed something like this. I can't wait for the Windows binaries.
UnWheel rocks my boat so hard I almost but didn't quite fall out. I just wanna say I've had more fun with UnWheel than any other Unreal gametime - ever.:D
UnWheel is teh secks.
We still LAN it up with some UnWheel more than any other Unreal 2004 mod.XD
In Soviet Russia, smegma eats YOU!!
Sounds awesome. While you don't always seem like you realise it (;)), your mod is one of the most polished and full of content around.XD
That's pretty cool. I could get used to the reactive shielding.
That is one nice car. Best looking car skinned I've seen in a Half-Life 2 mod, excepting maybe DIPRIP!
Nice going, it looks great!
Whistle worthy sexiness.
Absence looks great!
Sounds nice. The levels look a tad bland, but I'm sure that will change over time.
Looking amazing. I like the GUI.
OMFG it's "elfs" not elves!
Nah, just jokin' with ya'll. Looking nice. Nice unit work.
No! It's ya ***'* ****! Wait, I'm not allowed to say that! Looking hot.
Oh my god, hotness. I wanna bang you!XD
Looks amazing. Loving the texture work.
Looking nice. I shall download it when I get home.
Seconded. Looking great, by the way, DragonLord.
Woo! I've been waiting for this baby for some time. I love this mod, the most fun I've had with a mod since Natural Selection.
Well, your avatar looks like Ippos's to me. I get confused. And you speak like Ippo. Kinda. AGHH!! Don't change it though, it looks cool. I guess I'll just have to learn to read names. XD
You are also Tasmanian. :D
I get called "meth", so I thought I'd pass on the abbreviation fun. "Meth" just either reminds me of methelated spirits, or crystal meth, as in methanphetamines, neither of which I particularly want to be associated with. "Gibs" is kinda nice though. Seeing as you presumably like zombie gametypes, and therefore giblets, I think it's fitting. ;)
Look great. I might just jump on that bandwagon and start playing now.XD
Looking great! Really nice menu.
Void looks awesome! The first mod for Oblivion that has sparked my interest. Northlands hasn't really gone anywhere as fast as Void. Keep up the great work!
Sounds awesome. Going to my playlist.XD
Looks awesome. Now, if only I had Doom 3.
Funny that, your custom title seems so familiar!
Tour Black Mesa sounds rather fun, rather. XD
Are you sure that's realtime unreal engine? Man, you guys rock for adding this much **** to a non-source released engine.
Looking hot. Very nice model and skin.
Nice renders. Man I'm bored. I'm idling Moddb.
7th Serpent seems pretty cool. I'll have to download it. Well done!! XD
Nice! Looking awesome, can't wait for release.
Damn, I thought those images were truly ingame. I guess it works as concept art?!
Awesome. Will kick arse anyway without the shadow code. I might wait before downloading it myself, but well done on an awesome job.
I love you!
Awesome. I look forward to seeing the game less laggy.
Suits me great. MINERVA for evermore!
I am liking the style of Iron Grip more and more every day.
Empires looks absolutely amazing.
Looking very nice.
I'm with LedKardova. Looking awesome, the best infact. but the blue glowing visor would be impractical when in warfare.
Looking great. Nice art.XD
Awesome atmosphere on the blue planet.
Very nice as usual. Great work. Woot for the study dwarven folk.
Very sexy. Good on your for bringing DoD: Source into the pacific.
Very nice looking, and good to see some uniquity in modding every now and again.
Awesome! Ingame! They look amazing. I can't wait to play!
I haven't had a chance to check it out yet (read: I'm lazy and playing Civ 4). I will now. Thanks Chop, nice review.
Very nice looking maps. :D
A kick arse tutorial. Well done!
Like Isaac Kliener, Dr. Isaac Kliener. Anyway, the point is, the resistance before the citadel blows up is documented in Half-Life 2 chapeters "Anticitizen One" and "Follow Freeman", if you want to further that, great! I fear, however, that you are going to work in after the citidel incitent, which would land you in Half-Life 2: Aftermath territory.
Wow, that's crazy work, who does the modeling and texturing for you?
They deserve a medal.
Yeah, I've noticed that (not you personally Koroshiya), people that speak English as a second language often speak better English than the AOL generation.
Anyway, back on topic, great looking mod! Perhaps the only Half-Life mod to contend with The Specialists for sheer shininess.
Very nice models. I hoep you transfer that quality and attention to detail into gameplay. Good luck.
As always, very nice. I truly look forward to the release.
Sadly, Postal 2 never made it to Australia. If it did, I would be exited though. :)
No-one Lives Forever was very, very cool. Great that someone is keeping the flame alive in true style. My respect.
very nice, looks like something in a new game. Great detail. And Deus Ex did rock!
First off, wow! This mod looked like nothing notable when you first posted on Gamedev.net and (shame) I may have even flamed you!!
It goes to show how wrong one can be. This mod looks to be intelligent and unique. Good luck with everything and I love the idea. This is a mod not only to watch, but to watch and whine until it is released.
remove the meshsmooth on the wheels and take the time to model the wheels and bolts that go with it. Apart from that, nice work!
/me :wub:s BrainBread.
Sounds a lot like Savage. I don't like the description, it doesn't seem very professional. Anyway, dno't make the mistake Savage made of making resource gathering a task that had to be completed by players. make it an automated task or NPC only.
Good luck with AoC, if you need design work, give me a buzz.
translates to: "wow, nice detail!"
A very useful tutorial, I havn't tried it out yet, but it makes sense and will be awsome for my RTS half-lief 2 mod. Is there a way to make it so that you don't have to turn sv_cheats on for this to work. Would I need to put a function in all my levels that does this or can I merely detroy the
"static ConVar cam_command( "cam_command", "0", FCVAR_CHEAT | FCVAR_ARCHIVE ); // tells camera to go to thirdperson" line of code??
Me gets it to.
Meh, quite a nice idea, I certanly think it ads a level of believability to the uniform, though something more extreme would probably be more realistic.
They're mainly just there to show the interface and idle stunstick. The current maps all suck. The contrast needs to be shown as well.:D
Grats on second dot.
ur a dikkhed lol!
Nah, I'm serious, you suck.
Sexy. I also like the name.
I can now actually say it. Iron Grip ROCKS!!
OMG!!1 So, you propose that you are indeed the legendary roundhouse artiste that goes by the name of Chuck Norris. I mod for Chuck. He is my king.
Yes, looking good though. And I guess that helps. :)
The record apprears to be broken. The record apprears to be broken. The record apprears to be broken. The record apprears to be broken. The record apprears to be broken. The record apprears to be broken.
Yeah, something about that game description made me do that.
Looking quite nice.
Good going. Mod Toaster is pretty cool, and it helps that Isotx develops both Mod Toaster and MidEast Crisis. ;)
BK = Burger King!
Nope, I honestly think this is an ingorant mod. Honestly, do people think that "terrorists" would call themselves the "United Terrorist Coalition". Get some social awereness or please post again saying it is one big joke.
You do, you're just lying to yourself. Objectively, your profile picture is funnier though.XD
They aren't half bad!XD
I look forward to seeing more information about Dire in the future.
Why is the art for this game always so damn good? Nice going guys, your news is always good news. :D
What a way to go.
Aww.. I'm sure Mr. Kadish's ego loves you.XD
Anyway, you're right. This and killing floor seem to be the zombie mods for UT2004.
Totally awesome as usual. It looks fantastic, I love the colours, the style: everything.
Thanks to some help from Wraiyth, it's working again.
Some sample art. Just download some content from Polycount, convert it and get it in there.
Check your tutorial aW and feel free to get started, buddy. I'll be around. :D
Well, I don't think ANYONE expected that! Awesome!
Could I encourage those who go for other options tell us what they are? It makes our collective lives easy!
Congratulations. You sexy beast you!
Blck, I'm all ears, if you wanna get me on IM and discuss ideas.
Viva la HBM!
If they look natural, or aren't ingame. No more American movie ads on North Korean missile silos. Yes, Chaos Theory, I am looking at you. Bah.
Nice signature with the consoles. I was going to do that, but then I made a PC one instead. Happy Christmas!
Heh, I got Twilight Princess, played it for a little while (til I was about to start on the fire temple) then I had to go to a conference in Melbourne for a bit over a week. I only get back a couple of days ago, and I've just started on the Water Temple. I'm trying to do all the side quests and mini-games I can though. I love that about Zelda.
See the current mod award?XD
Sexy. Very, very sexy.
HYPE! But damn me, I want this.
I 100% agree with you there, which is why I said: "arguably of a higher quality." I totally agree it's an opinionated thing, and I think anyone saying that their work is objectively better or worse than yours would be wrong.
The simple fact is both mods have a very high standard of quality. Famous for it. One recieved considerably more attention that the other, probably due to the popular I.P. One has recieved two awards in the time the other has recieved none, despite the other releasing more than twice the media. It's understandable to have some misgivings, although not at the Black Mesa team, as everyone agrees.
Let's leave it at that. I'd prefer to either end this discussion or take it away from the profile. If anyone would like further information, simply P.M. me.
After lengthy deliberation, this is my official Favourite Screenshot Ever(tm). Any game or mod. Ever.
Although I'm sure Wraiyth would say he isn't jealous, I can see that a little jealousy is fair in this instance. You guys have recieved two awards in the past six months, and have released two sets of media in the past twelve months. Nightfall has recieved no awards, and released more than double the media in the same time, each set of an arguably higher quality.
I had said to Wraiyth that Nightfall was in the shortlist, due for the next round of awards. Then, when the award if given to you, Kester, and the team, one can understand his feelings. I know you didn't ask for it, and I don't think Wraiyth is particularly angry at anyone in particular, least of all you. I assume it just seems a tad unfair to him, which I'm sure both you and I can empathise with.
But, as you say, this was out of all of our hands. Just something that happened. Let's not let anyone lose any respect here over this. As Samuel L. Jackson would say: "We're gonna be like little Fonzies."
A little over three minutes. For watching generally over an hour of trailers. Sorry, but if these little ads are what keeps us able to show video content, I really don't see where the problem is.
On Wraiyth's note, I'm afraid I'm going to have to do the funky politician thing and say: "I won't be taking any questions." I might monitor what happens here, but I won't be justifying my opinion. This wasn't my choice for another award, and if procedure had been followed, it would not have recieved another one. However, it has one, and it has made a great media release, that should be enough for anyone.
In future, there shouldn't be this kind of debate. Cheers.
Heh. DESTROY!. Love the Motley Crue. Love the Padman Video.
It's my personal opinion that this award isn't deserved. As Awards Manager, that's a pretty important thing to say, and indeed not one I say lightly. This doesn't mean that I don't like this mod, or that I'm not going to play it, however, I don't believe the recent media release was "Visual Delight" worthy, and considering Black Mesa recently recieved Mod of the Moment, it wasn't part of our award shortlist for the next forseeable rounds of awarding.
However, it was awarded by a staff member who didn't completely grasp the changing procedures for Mod Awards, and has had certain detramental effects, such as cutting the very deserving Dream Casters' Duel's award time in half and sparking the contreversy with Wraiyth and some others.
This is a mod that inspires more polar opinions than any other we know of in development, as I'm sure Kester and the team would agree. However, we have awarded them in the past, and will continue to recognise their achievements with equal preportion to the similar achievements of other modifications on this website.
I've discussed the matter personally with Wraiyth, and apologise for the deliberations to the Black Mesa team. Please enjoy your award for the duration of it, and know that even if it wasn't the primary nominated choice, it's a very anticipated mod by the majority of the community. Congratulations on great work.
Meh, they all look like a Killing Floor rip off if you ask me. X)
Roll an alt on Firiona Vie, I'm roleplaying this time round, and I'm pretty sure it's the best current ruleset (no NODROP, NOTRADE, NOCAMP or Attunable items). We should make sure we get on the same Vanguard server, too.
Man, I'm pretty sure Twilight Princess is my favourite game ever. It's just sooo ******* cool.
Yeah, let's not get upset about something simple like this. It's a good newspost, I'm interested.
Come on, a thirty second advertisement allows us to compensate for the bandwidth heavy videos we're now hosting. It allows us to keep all our content fresh and free. Surely it isn't too much to ask you to sit through thirty seconds of video?
Good to see some French coverage. Good luck guys.
The S in SDK doesn't stand for source.
Not so much a circle-jerk, at least when I was active at ModDB, the perception was that TNM was written by PlanetDeusEx, for PlanetDeusEx, similarly to how Hammy-bob Mod was written by ModDB, for ModDB.
This must have had a positive impact somewhere along the line - not many mod projects ever see a team of ten dedicated developers, let alone when they're just starting out. Of course, the negative is that people thought it would be a joke, and even worse, a joke they weren't in on.
At the end of the day though, you guys created a mod that is unique in scope and quality, proved the mod community is capable of professional production values, without taking the usual 'indie' shortcuts. It is well known, respected, and considered one of, if not, the best in its class by the majority of those who have played it.
It is one of the most important mods to come out since the first wave of quality mods, and it's something you can all be proud of for the rest of your lives. Congratulations.
Ground texture is awful, no offense, but apart from that, it looks nice.
The server is in California, USA. :P
Best ever! X)
Very artistic screenshot.
Good idea. I'll check this out.
That, ah, does convey scale quite well...
Please don't post any more pictures like that. ModDB isn't an image board, especially not 4chan. More of this **** will lead to a warn, which isn't fun.
But, but, I love bees!
A good option, methinks, Ronan. Be sure to add the renders you have, because they are obviously astounding.
Cheers for that, Joe.
It wouldn't, unless you know what it's talking about. Good job Dragon. It would be nice to see more Linux users in modding circles, and you're only making it easier.:D
It looks very nice. I'll watch.XD
Damn amazing art.
I'd pay AU$100 for the multiplayer alone, let alone with an awesome SP campaign in it.
Oohhh, Nice location...
^^I second that, this is on my mods to reinstall for list.
Great! Awesome to see some Conflict: Omega media. As always, rock on!
Actuallly, it should be fine, as long as it's in general banter, I guess maybe just ask ShortCutMan anyway.
You hold it like that?:O
Looking great. Good to see some TA: Spring mods coming throgh.
Looking great. I like the models.
You don't put a licence to the Source Engine on hold. I call the bluff, much like Cheapalert did a while back.
CPL is cyberathlete professional league, basically just a large arse gaming competitions. This sort of stuff happens in Koera all the time, with, well, you guessed it; StarCraft.
I think they should televise it. For those with an interest in the games, it can make for interesting viewing. I've enjoyed watching StarCraft games on teh interwebs, and I would love to see it with a professional commentator pointing out tacticts and the like.
You should get some images of this up. Congratulations man, a fine effort.
Heh, cool. Like I said, I'm hoping. It looks to be the best mod ever made, and I PM'd Vince asking for a beta testing position. I really want to write a preview/review for this mod. It looks damn hot, and it sounds damn fun.
Looks very nice.
Does this work with the shareware episode?
I just reinstalled Freelancer, so I look forward to getting into the mod scene I missed the first time. This looks great!
Nice review. I will actually buy this one. Good stuffs Joe.
Wow, that's pretty insane news. Well, if it's for the best, so be it. I guess I can wait, look forward to the demo though man.
Nice models and crisp textures. Well done.
Looks and sounds great.
Nice concept. I look forward to it.
Decent, I'm with that. Nah, just kidding, it looks excellent.
Man, that Sweet Tooth Warlords thing looks sweet, eh?
This is possibly the best use of VGUI I've ever seen.XD
Yeah, but in an ugly kind of way.;)
Looks hot as hell!
The new map looks great!
Don't worry about Terminal58, he has done some serious spam in his time.XD
Looking great! I love the concept, just don't make the hardware too exclusive or expensive!
Love the texture.
Well done. Now.. if I had BF2. Good news is, I'm getting it.
Yeah, and that's definately a good thing. I wonder which one I had more fun with. Oh wait, that's Quake 3.
It's good to see all of these new updates. Looking great.
Hidden for the win. A great job.
Looking awe inspiring.
Looking great. The new model looks remarkably hot.
Looking very hot. Nice job!
This looks so, so hot. I'm going to buy Red alert 2 just for this baby.
Not looking too shabby at all.
Great! I could have sworn I saw this news a few weeks ago though.
Yeah, this looks to kick much arse.
W00t for you, SuperRad! It looks shiney, that's for sure. At least your birthday won't get delayed due to extended development time.
Jah, looks kick arse.
XD Liking the concept.
Of the twelve people that voted for keyboard only, how many actually only use the keyboard?
Nice to see Empires without lag and with less bugs!
Looks awesome. Great to have a release date!
Girl, you thought he was a man, but he was a muffin!
Oh well. It was a nice concept.
Awesome. Dungeon Doom kicks arse! XD
U Can't Touch This!
Very nice indeed. Wowgasm to the max.
Looking great. I'm impressed.
Sounds as hot as they come. Amazing work for a single person job. XD
Experiment with using different textures that look similar. For example, try having creepers going up one wall, or snow on the ground on the barracdes. That sort of stuff will get rid of the repetitive texture.
But it is a work in progress, so we will probably see change. Nice going.
I like the crimples near the belt.
Man, there was a crosshair in GoldenEye? I need to whip it out (the game, not my... nevermind) and play it again, it's been a few years now. This looks hawt.
Huge. Massive. Hell yeah!
I've been eyeing off infinity for some time. I badly want! Nice interview.
Awesome.I have wanted to check out a mod that is more phycological and less physical for a while. I will download this sometime.
Woot. Hammy flies again!
What do you mean, "they did a really good job with the Half-Life 1 tech there"?
Oh well, I guess I will jst have to wait and see.
Do you have trouble typing your name into login screens?
Huzzah indeed. Looking great.
That suicide 747 is in terrible taste! I don't se why an urban assault would want ICBMs either. inter-continental is a reason why they won't fit in a map.
Very nice! Shaping up to be a grand mod!
look awesome. Very lengthy interview.
Source is not the best for mods. But you are stupid, so you woudn't know. Cheapy, if Unreal Engine 3 doesn't have OpenGL support, then there is little a mod team can do about it. And I'm sure that Unreal Engine 3 is only for DirectX. I know that OpenGL is good enough for it, but if Epic don't add it, I'm pretty sure a mod team are going to have a hard time porting DirectX specific code over without access to the source.
I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.
What CS:S icon? Nice, by the way.
really nice texture on the staircase enterance.
Looking great. Here is what everyone that said "+watch" was looking for.
Nice work. I look forward to being able to play this baby.
This mod rocked, we still play it at LANs sometimes. There is something special about The Ship.
That should surely be used as a weapon model.
Nice to see a Warcraft III total conversion set in a Sci-Fi universe. I will watch this one.
Thanks for the comment. You shouldn't have to wait too long, we are getting further every day and should have a playable alpha out in a few months.
From there we might just make a beta with one team and one map exclusive to the Moddb community.
There will be a few more help wanted posts soon and the homepage will be up soon.
White Epsilon Staff
Beta 2 is coming out soon. PM me if you want it. Other than that, full release should follow beta.:D
Well, see you all ingame. Congratulations on getting this far.
As usual, I like what Crispy is saying. I want to clarify that I don't think under any circumstances that money should be a reward for modding. I think that modding is a self-rewarding task that does not require superficial financial rewards.
However, I stand by my statement that if mod teams had access to funds or equipment, then it would help produce a better quality product, due to a greater quality of assets. Code and mapping is fairly standard, as Crispy said, but moddelling suites such as 3D Studio MAX (while not necessary) will probably result in a high quality to time investment ratio. The same thing goes for texturing with varying degrees of cost in image editing suites.
However, the real costs come in sound and animation. Motion Capture costs money. Good sound costs money. So if mods want to have something over games in way of centent quality, then they will need some form of funding to do that.
And damned if Crispy isn't right again. If game studios were to encourage the leading mods by giving them studio time, mocap time and other things that really help a mod team out and don't cost a huge amount, then everyone is happy.
But in a way, I am with Koroshiya. Modding is kind of perfect the way it is. Sure, the big guns like INS and Dystopa get all the attention, but it leaves us little guys to mod quietly and at our own pace. It is a hobby, and while there are similar negative aspects that are found in the game developement industry, they don't affect the rest of us.
Anyway, great article (as displayed but this page or two of intelligent debate (minus one comment)).
Very sexy. I am really looking forward to this one.
As Penny Arcade fans call it: "The Dreaded Continuity"! It screws all good things over, especially Doctor Who.
Very nice going. Amazing work for the Source Engine.
If it is moddable, then it is relavent to the community. Also, I like features.
