Whilst this is a nice detailed model, remember that this is for an RTS game. detail isn't necessary. Gameplay mechanics are. This should really be rebuilt completely.

The original concept design belongs to someone else. Not you thomas. YOU should know better considering the problems you had before with your babylon 5 mod. Yes. You may publish the mod, but always on your own site which adds to the proof that you don't credit where credit is due.

Also appologies might_moose, but when I see a thief I speak up about it, and the proof is in the B5 mod that thomas clamied was his own work and mysteriously disappeared from MODDB after the theft was proven.

*edit - Might have to recheck the b5 mod seeing as its reared its head here again.

Just so your aware the dominion and breen ships were never "named" classes in either TNG or DS9 so go with what you feel is right.

Seriously disappointed with this turn of event megavin. For starters it seems every project you start yourself never gets finished. This seems to be turning into a nasty habit of yours. Firstly, it was Eras of War (good concept but poorly executed), then Earth at War (again a good concept but failed to go anywhere (and lets not go into the "demo" that you released shall we)), and now this.

Okay so this seems very critical of me, but speaking from my own personal experience, I'm beginning to think you have ideas, which in theory are relatively good but when you come to execute them they fall flat. You do realise that faith in a modders abilities can take a serious turn for the worst when they fail to achieve even a snippet of an actual completed/semi-completed mod.

I new I had seen this ship before somewhere. Actually this ship is the original concept, model and texture by Tan.J so I would suggest including a full credit to him.

Kitbashing!!??!! For someone with no modelling ability I find this both humorous and highly insulting. Admittadly the textures are shared by many of the models but the models themselves were individually built.

Its just as well I still check MODDB from time to time. Also the creator of this had better read their PM's.

Yep. Any line with those that I posted are ignored by the game engine. Although in saying that if you edit out the wrong thing it can have some strange effects happen.

Or you could just add <!-- to the beginning and --> to the end to have the same effect.

Hmmm. Okay. well look at it this way. Each face of a standard cube is made up of 2 triangles. Each triangle is a polygon.

If this is a hero unit you should be able to get away with at least 3k worth of polys (or maybe even higher). I mean once your converted to playable standard you could give it a try and see how it performs. My 20k Atlantis city ship plays fine, even under heavy combat and thats a single hero style unit.

Well to me this looks a bit like a quick strike vessel, maybe something smaller than a medium cruiser (destroyer perhaps), and with that in mind I would say try to aim for no more than 4000 polys. Of course, if this was my model I would aim for as low as possible and let any textures handle the finer details. For example. Looking at the original I would firstly build as low a mesh as possible (maybe try for around 1000 polys), then increase the details for specific sections, such as the engines or front.

Remember its cylinders and spheres that pile on the polys.

megavin. It would seem you've come along way since your early efforts. A very good start but watch that poly count!!

It was no dig, trust me. However, I will ask one thing. Why use such high poly models? Having been both modeller and modder for going on 15 years now I do know a thing or two about RTS based games. Perhaps you might want to readup alot more before embarking on a large scale project.

Very dubious concerning this mod. Firstly. The title needs some serious re-thought. A much better splash screen would also be a bonus. Also announcing a new mod and then requesting modeller help is a bad thing to do. I would strongly suggest using placeholder models for the time being so you can get something to show the masses, otherwise you will face the problem of people losing interest quicker than you would like.

With regards to the unit lists. You REALLY need to be more realistic with what your adding. Ground units have always been very difficult to obtain due to the (sometimes) complex animations that they require.

Still. I'll keep this tracked to see if anything is produced or whether the simple reality is nothing more than a poorly presented mess which never surfaces. (harsh reality but true none the less)

No, its not that. Its that theres has been more than alot of tie based designs so finding something thats unique is more difficult. It would be hard for you to create a completely new design without having something from a design already around. However, that isn't to say you couldn't try :)

As for SinS and Homeworld. I believe Homeworld might be the easier choice as to mod SinS I think you require the latest expansion (but don't quote me as being 100% right with that), as modding revious versions of the game can be very difficult to do effectively.

The only thing I can suggest is see whats been done previously based on tie style fighters and bombers. To me the tie based craft seem so modular it isn't even funny. I mean even the tie "uglies" as they're know have had their usage in several games that I know of so you could even see if theres parts from "other" ships that might suit.

Anyway, I digress. I think the reason your getting so little in the way of responses is simply that there isn't a great many people who still play this game. Thats why alot of modders tend to mod solely for themselves. Also with the release of windows 7 (and later OS) it makes older versions of 3d max stop working and I've not ever found a way to get EaW based shaders to work with UU3d. Also to my knowledge there isn't an exporter for Milkshape so it would be somewhat difficult to get models converted which is a massive shame.

megavin. As much as people don't like negative criticism I wouldn/t be myself if I gave nothing but praise for the design so I'll be blunt.

The design is quick frankly, poor if your looking to make a design based around the tie series of fighters. I would also seriously consider looking around the net for ANY and ALL tie based designs so you can see how other non-canon designs look.

As a starting point heres a general google search I did:
Google.co.uk

Secondly, whilst google sketchup is a very good tool (I've seen some truely unique and recognisable versions of well know models) you still need alot more experience before including anything you've produced. On this I would also suggest getting hold of other peoples models so you can study how they've used primitives.

I'm a little disappointed in the overall basic quality with this model and I'm beginning to believe that sketchup might not be the right modelling tool for you.

Now as I said at the start, this is very negative and highly blunt but sometimes a jolt of reality is what it needs for modellers and modders to improve (and I'm speaking purely from a modellers point of view).

Sorry for not replying sooner but I tend not to be on here very often. As for any update you may have done, feel free to release what you want. I'm also currently unable to convert any further models as 3d max 6 doesn't run with windows 7. Perhaps if I can get an old laptop then something may be released but its highly unlikely.

Well the storyline certainly seems haphazard at best. Still. I'll follow this to see whether you actually get to the mods finished, final version (knowing past history - Earth at War as a prime example). However. With this being yet another star wars based mod I would be highly shocked if models from Warb Null didn't make an appearance.....
