I am seriously considering porting the mod for Rebellion. Because Rebellion is just so right for the Xin.

It wouldn't add much to the work since I have barely begun really coding stuff, so all I have to do is make sure the models work with Rebellion (they do and they look awesome).

Anyway - this is how things stand (a bit of personal info but I guess you guys deserve to hear it).
I have recently had a LOT of work in RL. Modding, as much as I love to do it, doesn't pay, and paying jobs come first when you have to earn your living. On top of that I had (still have) some crazy deadlines to keep, so I'm pretty much on the job while I'm awake. On top of *that* I have had a lot of work on the house my wife and I hope to move in come fall/late summer.

So, all that combined = no work whatsoever on the mod for the last month. BUT, the good news is that I have finished all the big graphical jobs for the mod, and that the crunch time is slowly winding down. I will be incommunicado for the next few weeks, after that I plan on resuming work full force. I also hope to do a little update this week with some much anticipated information, so stay patient and stay tuned.

You will get your mitts on this relatively soon. Release date will be announced once I finalize a suitable release announcement (it won't just be a post here, I plan something larger).

Dynamic Ccombat, Volumetric Effects, new planets, the Xin, all will be fully updated, polished and packaged into one fiery bundle of awesomeness. Well, hopefully. :p

After, there will have to be updates, of course. I don't expect to nail balancing perfectly on the first go, though I try. After that, we'll see. :)

Sure, but then no updates 'cause I'll burn myself out till the end of the century. :p
This is a huge mod. The download will likely go into Gb range, and it takes time to create so much crap. ;)

But trust me, no one is more eager to see this out and about than me... hell I've been working on this for so long it feels like an era. Whatever shall I do once it is finished?

Soon, I have been busy with paying jobs lately, but I try to put a few hours of work in the mod every day.
Next in line for an update is a cruiser spotlight video, and it will feature finished ships, models, effects, weapons and all, duking it out.

And once all the graphical assets are done, and there aren't that many left to do, to celebrate the momentous occasion, a release date trailer. :)

Yes, I will be testing many vanilla abilities once the mod goes into final stages of production, as well as listen to player feedback and release balancing patches if necessary.
The mod will change a lot about how the original game plays. In addition to dynamic combat movement, you will also have much larger gravity wells so that real flanking maneuvers are possible, there will be major weapon type changes, further ship role diversification so that no single ship type will be good for every situation, and so on.

Actually it is highly possible Invasion is going to be later expanded to work with Rebellion.
Initially this won't be the case, since Rebellion brings entirely new mechanics to the game to which I can't adapt yet, since it's not yet out.

But who says there aren't factions in the Xin Hierarchy as well... ;)

The latest, most complete version of the Dynamic Combat mod will be included with the release of the Invasion.
Right now I am focusing on finishing this mod, so I can't spare any time in making a proper standalone version of Dynamic Combat mod.

This mod, being an extensive expansion to the original game, will primarily be treated as a stand-alone package - that is, if other mods want to be compatible with Invasion, I'll help with whatever info they need, but I don't have the time to make sure it's compatible with other mods out there on my own.

Yep, this is a replacement model, for precisely the reasons you mentioned.

There is a caveat, however. This isn't the Xin starbase equivalent.

Aquatic. There will be new planet types in as well. Xin are an aquatic race, their ships are filled with liquid.

Ok, a serious WTF moment. Charybdis isn't that common a name. That better be one heck of a coincidence.
I love the look of those ships, though, hopefully they get all that detail ingame as well.

As for changing names, that depends on who releases first. :p

The mod will be compatible with the latest versions of Entrenchment, Diplomacy and very likely, Rebellion.

Vanilla game won't be supported due to the engine restrictions.

The mod is planned for Entrenchment/Diplomacy, with Rebellion upgrade very very likely. Vanilla SoaSE won't be supported.

There are still some orbital structures which need to be done, and of course, coding, but that's a lot faster than making graphical assets.
