Ahoy. The name is Mikom. I do 3D modeling, rendering and just general design. I'm a person who over past few years has taken a great interest in formulating ideas in 3D space. Ideas are my trade in many ways yet I also lean towards the practical. I have worked on several mods and game projects though modeling for games is not my first area of expertise. Here on ModDB/IndieDB I keep an eye on the Humor Satire Parody group, I follow the modding community and watch game productions that have peaked my interest. Feel free to go through my blogs or image gallery if you want to get a glimpse of what I do. As always, have a nice day!

Busy Month

As some of you might remember from previous blogs, I was moving to a new apartment. Well now I have moved. I have a smaller apartment with a much nicer view. My Internet connection is rather bad now unfortunately, this means online gaming is not entirely possible anymore.
I have also bought a nice little Android phone, a Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro. I'm having loads of fun downloading apps and games.

As you might have noticed, I've also been doing some more 3D this past week. Arkas, Yara and Roras are the latest additions to my personal Bionicle collection.

Here is a render showing the entire team:

Other than Bionicles, I intend to continue making models whenever I get the time. Look for work and other real life problems might get in the way of this on some occasions but expect more models soon.

Have a nice day,

Battlestar Fan Club

What I've been up to...
...well, a while ago I was contacted by the chairman of the Battlestar Fan Club who had seen my fan group on ModDB, I became interested and contacted him back. After creating an account, I became more and more involved with the site and now I'm in the management of a network of Battlestar Galactica related fan-sites known as the Quorum of Twelve, I'm sure most of the fans know what this is from the series.
Right now I'm working with another talented artist on improving the graphics of the Battlestar Fan site.

If you are indeed a real Battlestar Galactica fan like me, please join us for the ultimate fan experience:

BATTLESTAR FAN CLUB

Or check out the Battlestar Galactica Fan Group here on ModDB:

As for other stuff, I recently added two new sections to my site, the 3D Portfolio and 2D Art Portfolio. I also made this header image:

That's all from me, have a nice day,

Summer 2011

It's summer in Sweden, and it has been for quite some time. I felt this needed saying because I haven't got much else to write about.
As you might have noticed, I have changed the theme of my profile slightly. I did this for fun, no other reason.

On my personal time (which I have a lot of) I have been playing various games, Test Drive Unlimited 2 and Crysis 2.
After finishing both games on veteran level I decided to do something useful so I stayed out of everyones way, doing absolutely nothing...

However now I am looking for a job in the real world and I am also moving to a new apartment. So it will be a while before there will be something new in my gallery.

Here is also the last model that I made a few weeks ago:

Portal2

Portal 2 still is...

...one of the best (possibly the best) game I've ever played! I just finished it on my old PC, which I think is rather amazing since it was just a simple dual core with an outdated graphics card. Naturally it didn't work on the highest settings but it worked very smoothly on medium. So that is good news for all of you who have older computers and think that you won't be able to play it!

As for the gameplay, slightly different from the first game but it's still left button fires blue portal, right button fires red (or orange for people who aren't colorblind).
The game is much longer now, it goes on for at least eight hours (about nine for me, I spent a lot of time having fun with the various gels).

The story is brilliant, I won't reveal to much since that would spoil the surprise for anyone who has not yet played the game (which I recommend they should do by the way). As to be expected, there is a lot of humor in the game, they got some fantastic voice actors to do the different voices that guide you through the levels.

I have already posted a review on the game here on ModDB, I gave it a 10/10 naturally. And to anyone who reads this post (and has not yet played Portal2) I once again say, play it and you wont regret it.

Also, feel free to download my Custom Portal Theme Pack: Moddb.com
It contains all the files you need to make your computer look like an Aperture Science computer.

New Computer

I got a new PC, finally. A brand new HP Pavilion Elite HPE-555sc.

Soon I will be getting back to modeling and working on all sorts of cool stuff again.

Specs:
Intel Core i7 2600 3,4 GHz 8MB
8GB RAM, DDR3 1333 MHz
2 TB HD 7200 RPM SATA-II
nVidia GeForce GTX 460 2GB
7.1 Surround Sound
Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 Bit

Also, here is my latest model, the random Jet Fighter:

Me, Me, and Me

I myself am still looking for a new computer, I'm getting closer and hopefully I can get back to building models again soon.
Since my last blog (I don't post many) I have made quite a few models so I'm going to keep it simple, I made some more BIONICLE stuff all of which can be found in my image gallery.

Here is the last model that I made, the StarWars based Sith Interceptor Mark Two:

TRON Lightcycle

I recently saw Tron Legacy, the movie was ok but I really liked the lightcycles. So when I got bored yesterday, I decided to make something (seen here below) I found a cool image on the internet and made it into this banner.

However, someone thought I had made the Lightcycle myself and I felt guilty, so I started making my own Lightcycle.

A year on ModDB

Yes, everyone. I've been here a year now. Naturally when I joined, I was known as Lord_Skeybar, I changed it to Admiral_Skeybar, let's see what I come up with next year.
I suppose now is the time to go around thanking everyone but first I would like to complain about the mess my profile has been in these past few weeks. The reason is the ModDB comment system of course. I really hope that eventually, they will think of something better...
Well so much for that, now I would like to mention some names of people who I didn't know before I joined ModDB:

KiwiWarrior (has been offline for quite some time now, did the Aussies finally get hold of you?)
.BloodRaven
(.Ravenblood)
Bloodshapphire95
(currently known as Kagamine.Rin)
iQew
Wizard_Jytim
DarkMarco
MattmanDude
jjawinte
Orange131326

Shadow_Micha
Madman4700
GLaDOS95
Admiral_Skeybar_II

...and some others. :) All who think they should be included and aren't, please leave a comment

ModDB has been my startup page/tab in FireFox for nearly all this time and it's always a comforting thing to see if there are any new updates before I check my regular emails.

I've had countless of ideas this past year and started about as many mods/games. However of all of those games, there are only 2 that I'm officially still developing: SPACE 3102, ACE's Void and Battle of the Coral Sea.
I also joined a game in development called Legend of the Peach Girl, I'd say it's a very promising game with a very interesting story.

I also made sure to learn 3d modeling, a skill that I'm now hopelessly forgetting somehow. I tried making a model today but hey, I just didn't know how...
Anywayz, I hope you have all enjoyed my company, I doubt it but I still thought I'd mention it...

Merry Christmas :)

A year of modeling, modding and more...

I suppose it was around this time last year that I started creating 3d art. As you might or might not know, the reason I started modeling was because I was modding a game called Star Wars: The Battle of Endor, it's a simple 3d spaceshooter based upon the battle of Endor in Star Wars. This was a bit longer ago than a year, I think probably a year and 2-3 months.
During this time I frequency exchanged emails with Tom Yee, the creator of the Invasion of Cardassia mod for BoE and sort of my mentor in modding. He showed me the essentials of making a successful mod. I had one big problem though, I was a total NOOB at everything.
I remember having a look at different 3d programs, all seemed impossible to learn and I put the idea of making my own models aside. It wasn't until these 2-3 months had passed and I had gotten nowhere because of the lack of models that I opened up trueSpace again and made my first model.
The strange thing is... I don't remember how I found my 3d program. It has been my tool and work-area for the past year and sometime while modeling, I must have forgotten how I came across this great program. I also think that during this time, the development of trueSpace was not entirely discontinued yet.

I was making a Battlestar Galactica themed mod, naturally, it was way to advanced for me, even with an engine as simple as BoE. It was after I failed at that I started looking at what I could do with my 3d program and I came up with some strange mod with some really weird models.
My second try at making my own mod was better and still my favorite, I named it "The M40 X pro ACE Game", actually I believe the original name was "Asteroid Explorer Fighter Game" but I had to make an even longer name off course...
The M40 X pro ACE game later got replaced by SPACE 3102, ACEs Void which is one of the games I'm developing now.
For this game I made some of my first "good" models.

Rimfrost-class Kohlar baseship M50 X planet class explorer, X-201 M40 X pro Asteroid Class Explorer
Well, sort of good anyway...

Since then I've been bugging people on the 3D Artists group with my strange models and creations. I hope they will forgive me some day...

P1c Bialian ships TM Assault Rifle

So there I went from making mods to being a modeler.
Since then I've been trying to improve my skills in 3d modeling and make more interesting models. I also started another game with someone from the Bruneras forums (Battle of Endor and Battle of Yavin related forums). He and I started on the game Battle of the Coral Sea, he however left the team early in development thus making me leader of my first game production.

After that, not much happened, I worked for a while in the summer not giving much time for modeling. After I picked it up again, it was almost like starting over.
And I suppose I can sum up the time after that with these 3 images:

L-50 fighter Powerplant Drilling Machine Final

So there you go, a year of modding and modeling. I could go on forever except that no one will probably read it anyway, with an exception of jjawinte, iQew and possibly my good friend KiwiWarrior who seems to have a certain crisis at the moment because I changed my name...

Anyway, that's all from me. Enjoy the rest of your morning, day or evening.

The new Lord_Skeybar

Well as you all may know, I'm a guy that makes strange 3d models. However from now on I'll be focusing on more areas and just plain modeling. I'm going to expand my knowledge of shapes. From now on I'll be making both 2d and 3d art in all forms (that I can think of, so don't expect to much)

Naturally, I've already started, here is some work that I've made so far:
